RaeveTheMad replied to skrunchpuff's topic in IntroductionsWelcome, @skrunchpuff. From someone who also read only for themselves first. Eleven years of self-reading is real, and it is also its own box. When the reading is for you, you already know the ending, so the cards tend to get read backward from what you had already decided. You do not notice until someone else sits across from you. That is the day you find out which of your interpretations belonged to the deck and which were just you. It is a good day. Glad you are here.

What's The Postman Bringing? Part 2
Rose Lalonde replied to DanielJUK's topic in Tarot DecksOracle deck arrived. Divinations for Uncertain Days; An Almanac of Birds Maria Popova is an author/poet who chose a bird from a 19th century guide by Audubon, Gould, or Lear each night, read its entry and looked at the art before bed, then in the morning created a poem using only words in the bird description. They're collaged onto the original art on 100 oversized cards. Reading with it is a lot like bibliomancy in that instead of the entire poem as a whole, I tend to be drawn to certain phrases she's pulled together. And of course the image. The poems don't really read like divinations, but are encouragement to be present, embrace change, and understand ourselves and others. At times dense, because of restricting herself to 19th century texts, but I like the idea that these are all from the original bird descriptions, reworked into a message. Half the proceeds go to the Audubon Society. My photo's a little blurry, but if of interest you can see them better at her Marginalian site. Yesterday

Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 484: Oct. 12 - Oct. 18
Rachelcat replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekHere I am! Mondays are getting so busy these days! (I do my reviews and interviews on Sunday, but I don't even have time to post them on Monday!) This week will be Art Deco Fortune Telling Cards. It’s the last of my sibillas to be used as a deck of the week! Published by Piatnik. Instead of a booklet, it has two instruction cards in German. Somewhere online I found an original publication date of 1936. A fun thing about the deck is all the languages. As listed on the box: Serbo-Kroatisch, Englisch, Deutsch, Ungarisch, and Italienisch. I didn’t know Serbo-Croatian was a language. According to Wikipedia, it is also known as Bosnian-Croatian-Montenegrin-Serbian (BCMS). (Ungarisch is Hungarian.) As I did for Arcana Folia, I did a quick analysis. The 52 cards are: 18 people 13 emotions 16 experiences/situations 5 physical things I’m not sure how reading will go with so many people cards. I gave up on G***y Oracle Cards because I couldn’t make that work. We’ll see this week! What is your most important characteristic? message Well, that makes sense! The deck’s purpose is to give messages. What is your strength? journey It’s good at messages about the future. Your weakness? malady It’s bad with health readings. What can you teach me? judge It can help me understand any moral choices I need to make. How can I learn it? thief A fun pair! I can learn about choices but I might have to squint or make stuff up instead of following the letter of the messages given. What will be the outcome of our work together? fortune She’s strewing roses and coins from her cornucopia. Similar to the first card, the deck will be a true fortune-teller for me. I hope so!

Table cloths for spreads
Crystalsandcards replied to Crystalsandcards's topic in Tarot SpreadsWowzers, thats brilliant. I have screenshot your poem that I will share with my class, thank you. I have a tarot diary though a tad more chaotic with my 4 page self devised sheets with symbolism that works for my style of expression. More people to learn from is what I hoped for and judging by the replies, I think this will be an online layer of help so needed . Next step social in person swaps on the list..

Thayer Tarot Mandala - Kickstarter reprint campaign... few hours left
Muir posted a topic in RWSI hope this is the right place to post this. Yesterday I became acknowledged that there is an ongoing Kickstarter campaign for reprinting this circular Rider-Waite Tarot, hand-painted 15 years ago by Chilean artist Alicia Thayer Morel. They are trying to reprint it in cooperation with the creator and her daughter and the price is incredibly affordable (for this market). As I am finding that this deck - that went OOP after the first edition - is quite sought after among the readers and the collectors, I leave here the link in case someone here is interested in it https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thayertarot/thayer-tarot-mandala/description -

What's The Postman Bringing? Part 2
RunningWild replied to DanielJUK's topic in Tarot Decks@Ferrea and all: The Lubanko is the deck I bought because one card, The Hierophant, caught my eye. The rest of the deck is good, too, Totally readable and comes with a few unique views of the cards. I like it and definitely think you would, too.

The Hierophant
Chariot replied to Thoughtful's topic in Everyday EnchantmentI quite like this card. Unlike some Hierophant cards, there is no element of worship in this depiction. The man is an ordinary teacher, teaching his room full of pupils about religions and ways of thinking in general. I presume, as a teacher, he is teaching the standard for 'the done thing' in each of these religions and philosophies. Some Hierophants get my back hair up a bit, as I am NOT religious and would resent being stifled by religion or overly smothered by rules and regulations. But this teacher is offering pure learning. He is not preaching, but probably the lessons he's teaching can be sensibly applied to life as it is. It's good to have a wide view, in my opinion. -
Table cloths for spreads
Tanga replied to Crystalsandcards's topic in Tarot SpreadsI've not seen many Tarot cloths with varied spreads printed on them... And they didn't exist when I started out... As an oldie - I learned 1st with the Celtic Cross 🙃 - and how I learned was to memorise this poem to remember what each position meant: "1 finds you, 2 crosses you, 3 is below you, 4 is behind you, 5 crowns you, 6 is before you, 7 is for your house and home, 8 for what you least expect, 9 for your hopes and fears, 10 for what is sure to be. 11 for a little advice (also 1st house in Western Astrology), and 12 is for your shadow's kiss" (also 2nd house in Western Astrology). When I took classes on Tarot at The College of Psychic Studies, Kensington, London (I decided to take a class after struggling to learn on my own from books for a while) - I made myself a Little White Book (LWB) and added what we learned as we went along. So - I'd just open my book at the page and have my little Celtic Cross map to refer to. I have since added to it and begun a new LWB, which is as yet incomplete (as I lost steam half-way and didn't complete it. LOL). My teacher extended her Celtic Cross to include the 12 Astrological houses - but I wasn't that interested in Astrology at the time (too much information for my restless brain) so I never pursued that: I like the picture that I found in a magazine to decorate the front of my LWB 🫠: I should really study my LWB more often - it has a lot of interesting stuff in it! -
Table cloths for spreads
Crystalsandcards replied to Crystalsandcards's topic in Tarot SpreadsThanks Chariot. I do indeed fall into the old people category. I will try the spread as you suggest without question and feel the story for practice. I will order the cloth now though as i feel it will help my practice.

Bodhiseed replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekThank you, Fire Cat! I'm in with the Gill Tarot paired with The Circle this week. Don't make excuses for why you can't get it done. Focus on all the reasons why you must make it happen. —Ralph Marston The King of Wands is Fire of Fire, full of aggressive, dynamic energy. When he gets inspired, he uses his strong will to motivate everyone to step lively. He'd prefer to have everything done by yesterday and tolerates no slackers. On the plus side, he's like a lightning bolt - his burning enthusiasm only lasts for so long (which is a blessing to those working for him). Flow comes to remind the King and us that having things done NOW is not always possible; reality often intervenes. We can't always micromanage and force the results we want. Sometimes we must work with what we're given and allow time for things to develop on their own. As Matsuo Bashō wrote, "Sitting quietly, doing nothing, spring comes, and the grass grows by itself."- Hello all -link to my new book

DanielJUK replied to CBM121's topic in Technical Forum AssistanceWelcome to the community @CBM121 😃 The rules only allow people to self-promote in certain areas of the forum and not in the main threads as we want them to be for discussions, not just posts linking to someone's own site. The Writing and Art forum is also not for linking off site, just if people want to promote their creations there in the community. Promote Yourself is the best place for you, you can start a thread there and do whatever you want with it. Post links, images, text, whatever you want. You have to be a subscriber to access this area, even if you take it out for a month. You can update your thread there and post new posts, once every week. As well as posting in that section, with a subscription you can post links in your signature and also add links in the link directory in the forum main menu Hope that makes everything clearer about how it all works.- Table cloths for spreads
Chariot replied to Crystalsandcards's topic in Tarot SpreadsThe Celtic Cross is a more elaborate spread than is often needed, but I do think it's a good idea to get to grips with it. If nothing else, it shows how cards link up and influence one another. It also shows what KINDS of information you can get from a tarot reading. It's just that it's not a good spread for every situation or question. I suspect most of us 'old' people started out with this spread, and worked into less elaborate spreads as we got 'wiser.' But, like lots of knowledge, it is a good place to start ...at least for learning purposes. Maybe try setting up a Celtic spread with your cards, without asking a question. Use a printed 'map' to keep you straight. Then build a 'story' from what shows up. What is influencing the current situation (the crossing card), what is past, what has helped to set it up (the foundation), what is the overview at the moment, what is likely to happen next, what will your attitude be as things develop, what aspects of the situation can YOU control, what is outwith your control, what do you hope for, what do you wish for, etc? It's all there in the Celtic spread. Working with the Celtic spread as a learning exercise using any cards is very good practice, even if the story these specific cards tell isn't relevant to your own life at the moment.- Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 484: Oct. 12 - Oct. 18
BrightEye replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekI’m in this week with the Old Lenormand by Alexander Glück. This is reproduction of the apparently oldest Lenormand deck. The cards have a really nice energy. Will post a reading with scans later. - Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 484: Oct. 12 - Oct. 18
