Sometimes I write my readings twice, and sometimes I don't. It's more common when I am actively studying a particular deck, because I learn things and organise my thoughts through writing. I'll usually draft some quick notes about the reading on paper, and then organise/deepen my analysis digitally when I discuss the spreads on my blog. However, if I'm not going to share it on my blog or here, then I'll probably only keep the paper version, because I don't have a digital journal. (TL;DR: I only re-write digitally the readings that I end up discussing on my blog or here in the forum. The readings that I don't discuss usually only get written on my paper journal.) As for the differences between the versions… Sometimes, I'll notice different elements when re-writing the analysis on the computer. But both versions usually complement each other. I have never seen the paper and digital version completely contradict themselves, and if the reading is "wrong"... then both versions tend to be, lol.

Hi all! We pause our regularly scheduled Thoth review to use a preordered deck I just received, Chromatika Tarot. I got it to add to my small abstract art deck collection. I like the colors and the geometric style and the faint “drafting” lines, but I’m afraid it might be too RWS for me. We’ll see this week. Interview time! What is your most important characteristic? The Lovers I’ll either love it or hate it. I’ll have to make a choice about it. It will bring things together that should be together. This is a non-RWS card. What is your strength? The Chariot Sorry but this reminds me of the trojan horse because the horses seem to be on wheels. Mighty small wings for such big horses. The deck is strong in that it moves tarot themes forward. One horse’s eye is open and the other one’s is closed. It looks good and sees good. Your weakness? Six of Pentacles This is definitely too RWS. The people seem to be too begging. The deck’s weakness is it’s too RWS and not abstract enough. For me anyway. What can I learn from you? The Star I can learn all about all good things from it. And how all those good things are manmade, not spiritual. Because the good things are dangling from wires that must have been made by people. How can I learn it? Queen of Wands Sunflower and black cat. I can learn about good human-made things by making good things myself. Act on my feelings. What will be the outcome of our work together? Six of Swords I will end up moving on from it. Or accept its RWSness and carry on with it. We’ll see!

I only do readings for myself, and I write them down once by hand. Mostly because I like writing by hand, it has more weight to me personally than when I quickly type something down. Also, I like my own handwriting😅However, I do make it a habit to read it back a few days to a week later, and add afterthoughts and reflections on the inititial reading. The way I keep it digitally, is by taking a picture of both the spread and the journal page and keep it in a folder on my phone. Mostly out of convenience, if I feel the need to read it back while I'm not home. Edit: the reason I like to keep it, is because I regularly ask for advice on how to deal with my own insecurities or worries. So the advice stays relevant to me, as opposed to when I ask advice about a very specific challenge or decision. Though I sometimes also like to read those back, to remind myself of what paths I have taken.

Cause I make it so easy to fall in love, so, come give me a call, and we'll fall into us." Well, she's got the falling part right - it's the staying in love that's more difficult. It's probably why at the top of this card there is the Latin phrase Dolce travaglio, meaning "sweet labor." Tristitia is a Latin word meaning sorrow; early theologians used it to describe a despondency that caused someone to give up all hope. Partners may discover they are just too different in views and values to stay together, or cruelty and dishonesty might break them apart. But if, as Pink sings, "It's been written in the scars on our hearts; we're not broken, just bent and we can learn to love again," then maybe wise hope should be our compass.

I have saved some of my readings that i gave people online (here and also on Aeclectic). And sometimes I take pics of readings I give myself. However, I rarely ever go back to read or look at them, so I generally wind up deleting them periodically when I need to clean up my files. Once I've had a reading, or given one, I'm done and move on. I let it sink in but do not ruminate much over it afterwards. I always marvel at those people who remember readings they've done in the past, even years ago. When I'm writing down my reading, yes, I jot down a few notes before I write it up.

The great thing if you use digital software or apps, is that you can search for those things and have tags and stuff. I always tag the decks used in the readings and so can go back searching the decks and see the readings. I don't really go back very much I have to be honest. I don't read professionally but do readings for others and friends and sometimes look back at past readings (if they want that) to compare. I have a page going each year for my own readings for that year, personal readings for me. I do look back on them at the end of the year. I do pull a card at the beginning of each month and it is interesting to read back through them but I don't really see a pattern with the cards. I leave quick feedback about how the month turned out and if they match and so that is the most analysis I do.

I understood that you're not using houses yourself. And even though that experience would help in this discussion I think the topic can be approached plainly conceptually. For people reading the GT more punctual, like deliberately checking cards in certain houses and how they are connected in the same way you look for rulership in astrology – my issue would probably not have appeared to them. I guess it becomes more obvious when reading lines or boxes and the underlying house structure shows up in one's wording as clusters or sequences.

I meant that I don't use houses myself, and since there are different methods, if you want to read with houses and you want to shuffle a second deck to place them instead of using fixed houses, I'm not someone who would tell you not to do it that way. I'd say see if it works for your readings. (But likely I should have just stayed out of it, since I don't have experience reading with houses as some others here do. I just got excited to see a Lenormand thread, honestly. 🫠)

Oh crap - I didn't realise that maybe John Matthews was as bad as Ryan. I know Caitlin was very pushy about Ryan's reprinting at one point, and so I assumed she was OK with the book for the Wildwood.

Yes, I certainly can use the proximity of the Mice to the Heart and many other examples. But does it has to be like this every time? I could also go with the Heart being next to House, Clover, Sun. It could be very insightful, when houses and cards are paired situational.

@Scozz Thanks. That answered my question ...do the digital write-ups occur some time after the reading has taken place and an entry was made in a written journal. The answer is 'yes.' I think that's a great idea, actually, because it gives you more time to think about the reading itself, as well as include any insight after an event or day has taken place. I always try to leave a space in my written journal for 'updates,' so if something occurs to me later, or something makes sense later, I can record it. I don't make a digital journal, though ...at least not yet.

Thanks @DanielJUK Yes @Chariot , as Daniel has confirmed, some people jot down initial quick reading notes on paper and then, after some time (hours, days etc), they may transfer them to a digital format for archiving later. This process can sometimes add further detail to a reading it seems. I've also been wondering how many people might use the data that could be attached to these digital readings for any future analysis. For instance, matching each reading with a moon or astrological phase to historically see how your readings/draws may differ during different aspects. Reviewing how many time Major cards, or particular cards, are drawn for you or others you read for, or how some decks you use align more strongly to certain card energies. Keeping a safe historical archive of draws and reads could be very enlightening I imagine.

I never use house placements in a GT. So throwing that fact in is the only thing I have to add to your discussion. 🫥 I know the thread you linked to makes a case for the possibility that houses were traditional despite not showing up in the 1848 Phillipe sheet. I don't have a horse in that race. I don't actually mind how anyone reads for me if it's a method that works for them consistently. But proximity is what helps me the most, and the Phillipe sheet has things to say about proximity that I can use.)

Great point. Another example is the Six of Cups/Vessels. Chesca's guidebook says, "two souls are reunited on an ancient mound." I don't want to spoil for anyone who hasn't spotted it, it's kind of cool when you see it and easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. The Wildwood Book (not the Greenwood Book, so maybe John Matthews get the credit here) elaborates on this in the Reading Points, "An emotional reunion can sometimes refer to the mystical Karmic cycles that bring lovers back through time, space, and lifetimes. The purpose of the 'soul reunion' may be manifold..." That's great if you're using the Greenwood, because that 'soul reunion' is not depicted anywhere that I can find on the Wildwood card. I have looked--in the shadows, branches, rocks, water--it's not there.

Dear card readers, I'm just word crocheting myself through a GT. First time using the 6 x 6 layout (usually 4 x 8 + 1 x 4) and I started wondering about the underlying house sequence in row 4. Tower, Garden, Mountain, Crossroads, Mice, Heart. What is the connection between these cards? Is there some kind of universal evolution indicated by this sequence, a distinct psychological/sociological process? Just some sort of coherence. I'd say no. So then, what is the rationale behind giving all the cards that land in this row (or any other for that matter) the same undertone or background, like a fixed narrative? Why this "forced proximity" of certain modifiers or subtexts? Of course, this also applies to reading boxes within the GT. Sticking with the crochet analogy, or let's say weaving, this seems to me like having predetermined warp threads (colour, thickness, material) in every reading, irrespective of the subjective pattern that wants to appear. For future GT I'll probably use a second deck and place the houses just as randomly as the other cards. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this. I did use the search function to see if this had already been discussed, but nothing came up. Besides this interesting thread (that I reread) about the Master Method. So please forgive if this is an old hat.
