The big list of free resources for learning tarot

Raggydoll

Recommended Posts

I would like everyone's help in compiling this list. I would love for us to gather all the best links in one place so that those who are new to tarot or who wish to do a deep dive into a specific topic, can easily find a great starting point. I can add to this first post as new tips come in.

Lets only list resources that we know are trustworthy and of high quality. And entirely free!

You can help me with what categories we will add, here are some that I could think of:

Educational tarot sites & free tarot lessons

http://learntarot.com/   A free online tarot course

https://www.thetarotlady.com/breaking-celtic-cross/    A great guide to learning the celtic cross

http://www.corax.com/tarot/index.html

https://supertarot.co.uk/ very comprehensive site, great for esoteric tarot studies

https://littleredtarot.com/learn-tarot/

https://ethony.com/tarottutorials/

Basic tarot card meanings

http://learntarot.com/cards.htm

http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/learn/meanings/

https://www.biddytarot.com/tarot-card-meanings/

https://www.corax.com/tarot/cards/index.html   For the thoth deck

https://littleredtarot.com/learn-tarot/library/

https://www.serenapowers.com/tarot2.html

http://carriemallon.com/blog/the-wild-unknown-tarot-card-meanings/  This is a deep dive into the Wild Unknown tarot but it presents you with a great example of how you can read cards visually

https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/topic/8630-learning-tdm-resources-and-discussions/ Our resource thread for studying the Marseille tarot might also be of interest

Sources for reading tarot books for free online

https://archive.org/details/americana?and[]=tarot&sin=

An online library where anyone from around the world can sign up and read ebooks etc

https://www.sacred-texts.com/tarot/index.htm

Lots of classic tarot books can be read for free here

Youtube channels

Kelly-Ann Maddox has a great tarot trainee program that has become sort of a classic on youtube. Link to the playlist of all the lessons:

Paul Hughes Barlows very informative channel :

https://youtube.com/c/PaulHughesBarlow1

Benebell Wen has a youtube series to help you learn tarot meanings across the different tarot systems (rws, thoth, marseille...)

And here is her series called Sightsee the tarot:

Just keep in mind, no links to sites that infringe on copyright!

I added a section for youtube channels. Though, please know that this is NOT the place for self promotion. If you are unsure, please read our rules, and if you are still unsure after reading our rules- message a moderator! Thank you!

This is such a great thread and as a newbie to tarot I really appreciate this. Thanks so much @Raggydoll. I’ve just had a little nose at learntarot.com and it’s just what I have been searching for! So hard as someone starting out to know where to look as there are so many conflicting sources.

I am so glad you found something you like! Learntarot.com is one of my personal favorites, I used that a lot when I first started out. It gives you a solid understanding and helps you see all the layers of each card.

I also used this website when I learnt too, it's brilliant - I still refer to it occasionally when I want a refresher about something!

This begs the question - are we going to compile youtube channels as well?

Hmm... yes, I think we could have a category for it. It IS a very nice way of learning and there are some real gems out there. What I am worried is that we will have some self promotion here (no, I didn't mean from you 😁) but still. Lets try to compile some good youtube links as well.

And she does do an excellent paid course where you kind of pay what you can. I just did it when she offered it free for people in lockdown.

Thank you, I love her site!

Well, then, let's get his channel up there, too.

This might not be a good fit, since it's more in depth than a beginners' nuts-and-bolts "how to", but Balthazar is an extremely talented reader and he's got a Tarot playlist.

This one is excellent. There's no reason a new reader shouldn't dive right into the Thoth, and it's helpful with RWS, too:

As a beginner, I co-sign this recommendation, for both the Thoth and RWS. Thank you @katrinka--you made a similar recommendation in another thread (I can't remember which one!), and it's made a huge difference to me and my readings. 😊

AJ-ish/Sharyn

https://labyrinthos.co/

the school may cost something I don't know, but the app is free, and is a very good workshop for beginners, or refresher for more advanced deck users.

the links are down mid-page for both apple and android.
