I have had a similar experience with the Thoth (being able to read it intuitively when I started). Do you remember which video of Benebell's helped you understand this?

I'm sure there are going to be lots of differing opinions on this but I thought it'd be fun to discuss! What's your opinion on using a phone app to read Tarot cards verses using the actual cards themselves? Personally, I love the feel of tarot cards and I enjoy shuffling them (the sound and the feel is so therapeutic!) and using them but there are times when it is hard to get my cards out and use whereas it is much easier to find a quiet space and use my phone. I don't find it effects my ability to read the cards or to use my intuition but I can see both sides of the argument for and against them. The only caveat I have with using an app is I like to have option…

Noobie here, apologies as needed. I'm sure there are already threads about this, but when I searched I either got nothing or a bazillion not-really-related hits. My question: How weird am I for following some not-scientifically-proven rituals to help feel bonded to my deck? Half my brain says it's 78 pieces of cardboard (which can help you tap into creative thinking techniques that show you new things). The other half of my brain says, "But what about what happened that time, with your cards? And that time? And that time? You can still believe it's just cardboard? You don't think synchronicity is real? C'mon." But either way, I do think…

Hey all! Sadly while doing a spread for the forum I didn't notice that one of the cards fell to the floor and while I was busy typing my "dear" "dear" dog came and licked it half to death- het saliva tore through the corner making the card un-usable. I was wondering - instead of buying a new deck worth around 18$- is there any way you can recommend to try and get that one card? thank you!

I’m considering decks and AJ-ish mentioned the Journey into Egypt Tarot. I just have a few questions: Does it come with any kind of guidebook? I see there isn’t a workbook for it...how do you learn to read the cards in depth? What are the odds that it will increase in value like the Maat? I see there’s an app with a guidebook, but how is it to read with digital cards? Can you take a screenshot? I’m starting to learn to read tarot and astrology together and I see these combine sun signs and moon phases, but how are they for reading the finer aspects of tarot and astrology together? What does the 3 of swords look like? Why is the Queen of Cups looking…

So, I have a question for all of you who do readings for others, whether professionally or just for fun How many of you have the sitter actually tell you their question before you draw, and how many have them keep the question to themselves and just do a read of the cards with the intent that the sitter applies the information themselves? Is there a protocol? I rarely read for others (I don't think I am "good enough" yet), but when I do, it is never a business exchange, so I always have the sitter think about the question, but not reveal it to me. I then usually do a 3 card spread, or maybe 4, (or whichever type I am learning) and expla…

The Tarosophists Tarot Association is currently holding a survey on the best Tarot, Lenormand, Oracle, Book, etc that were published in the previous year. You can check it out in their site HERE. It's open to all - meaning even non-members would be able to vote. I can verify this since I just cast my vote. Once you have placed yours, you won't be allowed to change your choices so choose wisely. :D You're also allowed to skip items if you don't find any of the options worthy. Indeed, many of the categories allow you to endorse another deck/book/etc if you feel that it's better than the available selections. The survey was easy-peasy, and I answered everything quite quic…

Hello Tarot Friends, I have been thinking about how 95% of my tarot decks are either RWS based or Thoth based. And I find it all too easy to lean on the standard RWS meanings or the Thoth keywords with those decks. I want to get out of my cage of pre-packaged meaning and into some new symbolism, new territory. Of course, there is always purely intuitive reading, and I am going to do more of that for sure, especially over in the ISG Reading Circle. But I'm interested in deck creators who have developed their own symbolism for the cards. Creators who have lived with the cards long enough that they've developed their own personal understanding of …

Hello, I realize I've not read personally for quite some time. I'm beyond the phase of needing to do daily or weekly readings for learning and study ... I read professionally for clients fairly often. Yet Tarot is part of my private spiritual practice and I've neglected it lately. I realize part of it is some ambiguous feelings about deck consumerism. Like I get inspiration from Tarot content on media or this forum ... but I also get a lot of temptation to buy new decks. I feel my deck collection is a good size and I don't want the temptation toward consumerism. So i've avoided Tarot content ... thus avoiding consumerism ..…

In my daily spread I've sometimes been getting difficult/challenging cards in the advice posistion and I've started to think about what they can mean when they come up like that. I'm talking about cards like The Tower, 9 of Swords, 5 of Pentacles etc. Are they saying I'm a jerk who could do with some of the trouble sometimes implicated by these kinds of cards or is it more of a "it's not as bad as you think and you've survived this before" sort of message? Are they softened by coming up as advice or is that just wishful thinking on my behalf? Hoping someone more experienced than me could chime in on this!

Is there a way to learn how to not solely rely on tarot for the sense of the situation, and use tarot to confirm one's own intuition. How does one go about developing this more

As the title says, asking for a friend who is writing something of importance. Is Major Arcana primarily the only one used in common tarot discussion? Or is, "Minor Arcana" of equal reference and importance? I have always used it for the suites.

I recently started working with my decks again, and am struggling hardcore with one deck. I have a copy of the Samhain Deck of the Bastard that I purchased in 2014, and I feel like I need an eye exam anytime I try to use it. The images are so dark and muddled that even fluorescent lights right over me don't help in illuminating the imagery, let alone the keywords I had her print on the cards for me. I don't know if the copy I received is just slightly darker than some of the images online, or if that's how they are meant to look. But I find myself regretting buying it, because it isn't legible for me. I showed it to my husband and he also struggled to read the cards, whic…

A serious personal story: About 25 years ago, I read tarot for a man on the cusp of homelessness, Outside a cafe. Complete stranger. While I was just beginning to slowly charge for my services, he saw me studying my Thoth, sat down across from me, and simply said, "please." Agitated and dirty, gaunt and exhausted, I saw the despondency on his face as I had him take three deep breaths, felt his suffering as I shuffled. He and his girlfriend were being evicted in three days time. I pulled just one card, and began to speak about the definition as I understood from my books. I completely missed the mark, as I yet did not yet understand the full process of interplay…

I’m finding that I’m having difficulty connecting meaning to the following cards: 3 of Coins 7 of Coins and the Pages and Knight court cards Anyone else have issues with these? I feel like when I see them that it just has a neutral feel, or a very limited understanding. For example, all I can think of with 3 of Coins is teamwork. Reversed, I think only of projects not working out. 7 of Coins I see waiting. Reversed I see spoilage. And the pages and knights all might as well be the same cards because they’re like a blur to me.

Hi all! what are peoples opinions on spreads that have mostly reversed cards. For example, a 7 card spread for a relationships. 5 out of the 7 reversed, but with the outcome card being the wheel of fortune, upright. regards Minerva

Can someone explain to me as simply or as detailed as you choose the ideas surrounding these two, apparently opposite, energies? My brain has been tripping over this for while, and since I'm looking at magician cards at the moment, I was reminded. Are they opposite? Is it ever either/or, or is each never pure? What arrangement are those words actually trying to portray? Some of the problem might be the way words attract meanings and those meanings change over time. For example, receptive, recieiving, irrational, immaterial or without form... these just don't sit well with me because it's like I'm missing the real point. My culture thinks of those things a…

Now that I've found you guys in this forum, I have so many questions 😂 Here's the first one. Does anyone here use a 9 card box spread, like the Lenormand, but for tarot? How do you find it works for you using tarot, and what's your favourite way to use it? I've tried this out a few times and I feel it's an awesome alternative to the Celtic Cross and helps me get in more of a storytelling flow. Here's what I've used so far: Past Present Future (dreams/weighing on the mind) Past Present Future (reality/practical) - middle card being the central theme (I don't use a significator) Past Present Future (emotions/undercurrent) Would love to …

Discussion: who reads fully clear and sober? Who prefers a bit of alcohol or other indulgence? Old pic here with a shot of spiced rum for the spirits. I no longer drink or even smoke nicotine, and my sessions are more satisfying than ever before. Everyone is different, however, so share what works for you. Please don't mention things that are illegal let's keep this thread unlocked.

I have recently started reading guide books on decks I buy. I read them because I'm hoping for a insight on artists non-stand RWS card images. I just purchased the Kvirly deck at Esty's. The images remind me of the Deviant Moon Tarot. The LWB is useless, however, since it only gives standard card definitions and some odd interpretations. I've never heard of before. It's of no use to me as it doesn't address the symbolism of cards in the deck. I've had this problem with other Indy decks. It annoys me. I don't read every guidebook if they're RWS clones. What do you guys do?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Angel Wisdom Deck or has had the experience of struggling connecting with a deck. I have worked with this deck for about a month (2 to 3 times a day) and just in the last week I feel I am starting to build a connection with these cards, but only when I don't use a spread. I also feel my readings are off when I pull from the top of the deck and instead use the fallout shuffle method. I have tried cleansing them, blessing them, and doing spread to "get to know" the deck. Does anyone have any techniques they use to build a better relationship with your deck?

In a similar vein to the recent Tower thread - or, rather, the direction it was occasionally going - let's talk about the cards that challenge us. The Tower, The Devil, Death, 3 of Swords, etc etc. Let's talk about how we experience them in our lives, what lessons they bring, what growth comes from the experiences! Feel free to jump on with whatever thoughts you have about any card that challenges you, or to continue the conversations started by someone else!
