I know that everyone reads and interprets differently, and I'm still very new to reading, but I've been thinking about how various experiences and fields of knowledge-- personal, professional, big life events seen through tarot, knowledge about hobbies etc. intertwine to create new meanings and I wanted to hear about how those affect your readings! For instance, music and the associations I make between cards does influence the way I read things. Then, I went back to school a few years ago and have been working toward an academic career. I don't know much about philosophy except how it ties into my field of study-- but what I've learned so far has made profoun…

For the last year or so I've been developing my method for reading the Tarot de Marseille, and in the process I took a detour to rework my understanding of the RWS (which you can read here). In studying the Marseille, I've realized that there are a number of pip decks that I would like to read with but that won't work in relation to the system that I've developed. My system for the TdM relies partially on the visual arrangement of the foliage and the "looks" of the human figures on the cards, so beautiful decks like the Prediction Tarot (which have quite spartan minors and many figures that face outwardly) really won't work. What follows, then, is a system tha…

Hi Friends! I've read people from my home for many years, but in Oak Park, where I live, there's a yearly pagan festival (http://www.chicagopaganpride.org/). I was thinking about applying for a booth this year. Has anyone here ever had experience with reading in this sort of venue? Did you feel energetically whammied because the crowds were large? Or was it generally a good experience? And how about sales? Did you find you sat around most of the day, or did people filter in for readings? Normally I just attend this venue. Hubby suggested partaking more fully this year. Thanks in advance, Sandy

This is so weird. I was shuffling through my favorite deck, The Illuminated Tarot by Carol Herzog, and I noticed that there were 2, yes 2 of the same card in the deck. I've been using this deck for years. (yes, she had send a few individual extra bonus cards... but I don't remember this as being one of them... I put them elsewhere). What does this mean? Should I keep the double card in my deck? It's a card that for me has a very positive meaning having to do with DreamPlay -- a practice that I am fascinated with and love. What would you do? The card: NIne of Swords

Ive been doing practice readings for people, and Ive run into the conundrum of trying to strike a balance between answering the querents question and answering them according to my intuition, specifically in the context of when they ask about how someone theyre no contact with thinks of them/feels about them. Ive run across this a couple times, where someone asked me this, and the cards read, to me, like the person they were asking about had moved on and it was time for them to do the same, and some of the clarifying cards I pulled seemed to suggest the same to me. Maybe my perspective as someone who is going into social work has influenced me an…

Does anyone else practice readings using the news or other TV shows? I decided to get short clips of news from YouTube rather than the TV. The point of the exercise for me was to do a quick few card pull - whatever jumped out during shuffling, without meditating on the cards or question. I thought I'd give it a try as I need to practice but don't have time this week for in-depth reads. When I practice, it's usually career/relationships type readings, so I was blown away by the different real-life meanings I found right away in the cards. Also noticing different things - e.g. the Fool's tunic I thought just had flowers on it, but next to the High Priestess …

I can't help but notice how many Tarot decks focus on one specific Major as a theme, whether explicitly or otherwise. There is the Lovers' Path for the Lovers, the Deviant Moon for the Moon, etc. Can you name others?

This looks like the place to put general tarot topics including about what we keep our decks in. If not, PLEASE mods feel free to move it! Years ago, I used tarot bags, so many gorgeous ones. I did notice that often if I tossed the tarot bag in my bag, purse, they would slide around and not stay exactly stable. SO I put them in stretchy socks first! Depending on the size of the deck, that's the size socks I would use. Any type that was stretchy and looked cool! You can even use old nylon stockings if anyone still has them (for a "dark" deck, black nylon stockings are a kind of fun inner bag!). You just put them in the appropriate size sock …

When you get a new deck do you do anything special with it? Do you have a ritual to connect to the cards or do you feel they work fine straight out of the box? Many years ago I used to sleep with my new ones under my pillow for at least a week. At 1 time I even anointed my cards with my signature sent oil as well. I’ve gotten lazy these days so now it’s just a quick thumb through to check out the pretty imagery then some brisk thwacks on the table to shake off any unwanted energy and it’s off to the races.. So what’s your thing when the postman drops that crisp new baby on your doorstep? Do you think that if I did a bit more with my cards in advance that …

I recently had an interesting conversation on another forum about personal reading style. I sat down and captured everything I could think of about my own approach to reading the cards, developed over nearly 50 years of doing it. Here is the short list, and a link to the full narrative. Note that the "curmudgeon quotient" may be a bit high in some of this and it will likely push a few buttons. Don't take it personally, it's only one man's opinion. https://parsifalswheeldivination.com/2020/06/30/favorite-things/ Use of Formal (and Usually “Positional”) Spreads “Subconscious Induction” (Client Shuffling and "How Tarot Works") “Gestalt” O…

you must of heard by now.. that you add the numbers up eh ? aka 10 becomes 1,, 11, becomes 2 ,, 19 becomes 10, and becomes one. you can read about the mandelas in tarot constellatiions by mary k greer. I was reading I think forest of souls at the time.. by racheal Pollack,, and the fool as 22 yet also 0. and I thought to myself 2-2 makes 0. and some light bulb went off above my head,, big beam of light came donw and shook my body (joking about the last part ). I reasoned that if the hermit makes things move,, by adding.. would I work by subtracting ? aka 11 becomes 0 , 1-1 . 12 becomes 1 2-1 13 becomes 2 , 3-1 14 becomes 3 , 4-1 !!? a…

I have read lots of advice that says to record your daily card in a journal. I appreciate that everyone's way of journalling will be different but I was wondering if you could describe or show me some of your examples to give me ideas to get me started. What kind of things do you find useful to record? Do you find you refer back to your entries at a later date? How do you lay out the information? Do you have separate sections for different information? Digital or paper? I feel like there's so many choices it's a bit overwhelming to know how to get started.

I’ve recently started journaling again after a long time. I was trying to describe a mood I was feeling, and I thought of the 10 of Wands card. Card expressed what I was writing about and how I was feeling that day, overburdened. I think that it could be helpful for me when I’m having a certain feeling to post for my self in my entries, a card that matches my current state of mind. Does anyone else do this?

Just curious, does anyone here have and rituals they do with their cards during the full or new moons? I am starting something new tonight where I plan on putting my cards in order during the new moon of each month to reset the energies. If anyone else has traditions like this I'd love to hear about it!

I'm curious if anyone has experience with a specific spread that they've found to be particularly helpful in showing them a path towards a particular goal? I've been using the Work Cycle, and I like it, and my results with it have been interesting but not quite the "clear path forward" that I'm hoping for when I use it. But maybe I just need to sit with it more.

Hi! I'm still pretty new to tarot, I'm not super experienced yet and I've only been reading for myself so far. This might just be something that comes with practise but I'm really struggling to trust my intuition, with most cards I'm constantly second guessing myself, immediately telling myself I'm wrong, etc, and I feel like it's stopping me from getting the most out of the reading and it's frustrating, it's like something's blocking my thoughts in a way. It's hard to describe so hopefully that makes sense haha. Does anyone know that feeling and what I can do to help with it? I'd like to read for others someday and I want to figure this out before then. Thanks in advance

Have you ever found that your decks seem to have chosen a card that actually represents the deck? The same way you may find signifiers for yourself or others in your life within the deck, I find that the deck often has a card that really seems to just show the personality of the deck itself. For example, Archeon Tarot personifies itself with The Magician. When working with the deck, it's like I have The Magician from this deck conjuring up the images for me to see. Shadowscapes is also an interesting one, being very Queen of Cups. She steps down from the cosmos, bringing all the love and wisdom of the universe with her. Do your decks personify themselves i…
