I was browsing Llewellyn's website and saw that they have a tarot calendar for 2018: http://llewellyn.com/journal/article.php?id=2637. It looks pretty cool! I don't know if it's enough for me to switch from my usual calendar (I love Llewellyn's Witches' Calendar and have been buying it for a few years now) but it's definitely tempting. It looks like they feature various spreads, exercises etc throughout the year.

I've googled a lot of things and done some prep work (though I'm still missing incense) and I think I'm just about ready to start when the full moon hits (a friend told me I should cleanse my new deck under the full moon first before I use them since I don't have other means of cleansing them atm) and being around here got me thinking... I was wondering where and how you all started. What was your personal experience when first getting into Tarot and reaching your intuition? What knowledge do you think is good for a newbie to know beforehand and what would you pass on to someone just starting out?

Does anyone have any books of tarot spreads that they love and would recommend? If so what do you like about it? Thanks for any thoughts :)

Hi all, I remember this site being discussed on AT years ago...I found it the same way I usually find other great sites…came across a link when I was looking for something else…. So, tonight at work, I did my usual 3-card daily reading. I was using the Dame Fortune Wheel's Tarot. I shuffled as normal (till it "felt right" - 4 times this time), did a cut and laid out 3 cards. I didn't really look at the cards as I'm laying them out - just kind of looking straight ahead without focusing. When I looked down, here's what I found; Knave of Swords-rx ...... Knight of Swords-rx ...... King of Swords-rx :o I should have looked to see if the next card was the Queen (but I didn't think of it till just now). I have never had, in that short of a reading, 3 court cards come up, in the correct order as this. I realize that it is within the realm …

Would it be a feasible to have a feedback circle for self readings? We read again and again how difficult self reading is, wouldn't it be cool to sharpen that skill? Maybe a 5 card limit and no more than a 5 word question Something not seen elsewhere...

I've been away with just my iPad...do you think I could bring up this site?? I must have typed in Coffee Tea and Tarot 7 or 8 times.. The differences between the Empress and the Queen of Pentacles are a bit fuzzy for me. Obviously one is a Major and the other is a court card, but these two tend to have very similar keywords in the books I've read. "Abundance", "nurturing", "creativity", even phrases like "Earth mother" are shared between them. I haven't had both come up in a spread yet, but if it did I feel like I would have trouble trying to explain how they're different. I'd love to hear any thoughts or explanations!

So, I've been working with the Steampunk Tarot (Matthews) for a few days now. To start with, I have to say that, in the past 10 or so years, I can't really recall a reading where a Court card has come up and I've said that it specifically represents one individual. I've had them represent certain aspects of a person, or their influence on a situation, but not a "oh! This is specifically person A." And when I was beginning my Tarot studies, there were times when I would try to mentally force a Court card to be some individual or other in a reading, but of course that didn't work. Tarot Theory journaling I was wondering how do you journal the theory side of your Tarot study? I am always busy with the card meanings. If I see, read or hear something which reminds me of a card, I write it down in my paper notebook. And from time to time I will write it down in a computer file. My digital Tarot journal is big, it has already the size of a book. How do you journal? What do you journal? In what form do you journal? Thanks.

I was wondering what books do you think are for the Advanced Tarot Student? I would say Tarot Decoded from Elizabeth Hazel. But there must be more books, which focus on more than only the card meanings, so that you can become a better card reader. What books would you advise? Thanks.

As Rose Lalonde mentioned, I was also thinking about a reading circle idea and thought I would share it here to get some feedback-RL and I were talking and were thinking we could maybe start up the two circles :) So this circle would be called Circle of Seasons. It would be a typical monthly reading circle, but the spread each month would specifically focus on the season of the year. For an example, in autumn we might do a harvest themed spread. I am frequently struck by a song which makes me think of a particular Tarot card. Meaning that what the song is about, it's lyrics and ideas, fit in strongly with the meanings or symbolism of a given card. I thought it might be fun and even a good learning opportunity to discuss some of these songs and how and why they fit with a card or cards. If you care about calculating your birth and/or year card, do you place any specific significance on it if it shows up in a reading? This year (I go birthday to birthday with the year cards) is all about the Hanged Man for me and he showed up yesterday when I was having a not very good day. I'm thinking it could mean that I gotta look to my year card and the greater lessons that I'm learning and trust that it will work itself out if I hang in there (letting go and things sorting out without me being obsessive about it is something I struggle with but the Hanged Man is helping me see it's a good thing), but I'm really curious to what other people think. I'd like to take part in a monthly tarot exchange again, so I was thinking of starting a general one in Reading Circles for August, open to TdM, RWS, Thoth, Continental, other... as long as it's tarot.
