Ealasaid Enfys Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Hi everyone, Usually I practice reading the cards by doing one for myself about once a month. I like the reading because it's only since recently that I've been able to 'read' them intuitively. I've been able to give myself a good reading but I've run out of questions now. I'm not really interested in how a visit from my friends will go, I'm 100% sure it will be fine. And I don't have enough going on in my personal life to do a daily card. I'm usually just home alone. Does anyone have some tips on how to practice reading the cards without a querent and question? Or maybe I should ask the cards? 😆 Or maybe somebody should tell me to jump and start some reading exchanges here on the forum? But I'm soooo intimidated by the readings there, newbie or not. So tell me... Ealasaid
DanielJUK Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Have you considered reading for fictional things, like watching tv / netflix / films or a book you are reading? what is the outcome of this character? who committed the murder? it's fun and great practice to read on fictional matters. I like predictive reading personally (not everyone does it) so for fun I often do personal readings about sport and international politics. Come join the exchanges and circles, they are all just for practice and to learn! Everyone is kind and patient here. If you are really nervous about exchanges (and I was!) come join as in the newbies circle, it's especially for the first exchange and very gentle, with small spreads. We just started the circle for July but look out for August in the first week of the month. Once you have done an exchange, you get confidence and will want to do more and more 🙂 Do think about fictional and topical things you can read on, read on anything you can, it's how you improve!
Cora Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 @Ealasaid Enfys How about daily draws? Or making a quick cartoon using your cards. Your cards tells a story. I like to think of my tarot cards as a picture book. And I agree with DanielJUK. Do readings on your favorite shows, books, movies, etc. Also, jump on the tarot reading circles. Don’t be afraid to give readings and ask for feedbacks. Feedback are great and it can help you a lot.
Rupicapra Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 I think I saw this somewhere on IG. I like to do that when e.g. i have a bit of downtime at work as it works so easy with a tarot app: pull two cards and makeup a story how a person might get from what is going on in card1 to what is going on in card2. Add more cards at the end, beginning or middle to extend the story.
Grace Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Pick a card, or two or three, get into a meditative state or just before bed - and let it tell you a story - see what you receive!
Ealasaid Enfys Posted July 10, 2020 Author Posted July 10, 2020 @DanielJUK, what a great idea to use tv and books to do a spread. I will definitely be trying that. Too bad I just missed the newbie circle. I'll be joining next month. I just did a reading exchange and it felt really good. Not sure what the querent thinks about it yet, but at least I've made a start. The hard part is over. @Cora, I would do daily draws if I had a bit more going on in my life but for the next 2 months I'll still be at home (I'm a teacher), filling my days with watching tv, reading, doing the household and tarot of course. I love your gif by the way. Do you know where's it from? @Rupicapra and @Grace, I like the story telling. I did some exercises from Learning the Tarot (Joan Bunning). I think your tips were mentioned in there as well. I only got to comparing two cards. I'll have to look into that. Thanks to you all
Cora Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 @Ealasaid Enfys I have no idea from what movie the gif I is from 😂
Ealasaid Enfys Posted July 10, 2020 Author Posted July 10, 2020 Too bad, she seems fun to hang out with 😋
Ealasaid Enfys Posted July 11, 2020 Author Posted July 11, 2020 Last night, while watching a Hallmark romcom I had an idea. I like watching those movies once in a while because the sun always shines, always a happy ending. It 's so superficial and I love playing rom com bingo. So I thought, why nog transfer the Fool's Journey into the basic structure of a romcom? It al starts with a foolish girl, falling off a cliff. And I'm currently writing a book (magic realism), so why not ask questions to help me write? Why didn't I think of that? Thanks guys, your input has helped a lot.
BlueMoth Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 You can try reading for a friend or family member. Or if you are into a bit of an adventure, you can ask the universe to send you someone else's story. Like you can just do a relationship reading of some stranger you saw - conjure her form in your mind and trust your instincts. If the reading seems familiar to your own situation, then you probably aren't doing it right or manifesting your energy enough. Makes you feel like a nosy neighbour but quite fun!

Hey Ealasaid, I know this thread is old now, but one of things that helped me get to where I am now (still a novice btw) is doing spreads over and over. Every evening, I go through the entire deck once - 8 Celtic Cross spreads (though I need to steal two cards for the last one) for an imaginary seeker, just so that I can learn to think on my feet about the relationships that appear, especially the strange ones. On top of getting even more familiar with every card in the deck, you really learn how to craft a compelling narrative for a seeker, and that makes it easier when you have an actual human in front of you. I don't know where you are with your reading now, but for me, even after just a few months, I'm pretty comfortable with that spread, the cards, and creating a story line fits the cards on the table. I'm looking to learn more and improve, that's why I'm here, but I am really enjoying the road so far.
