Teach me tarot!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I'm 19 and I'm using tarot to help guide me and exercise my intuition. I have only been doing it a year but I took a break to recoup my energy. I'm here to learn and seek or pick up advice from other readers. I love to talk and learn so I'm all ears! (Or eyes!)

My biggest challenge has been connecting card meanings and combinations and going beyond using keywords/phrases. Also when the cards have obvious contradictions it's difficult to decipher. Sometimes it's hard to tell your intuition from your ego.

My biggest joy has been getting things right haha, it makes me feeling like I'm getting it. Also listening to the cards and seeing how the advice can be applied to my life. I am slowly feeling more and more connected to my deck as I go which makes me quite happy.  🙂

I'm looking forward to speaking to my fellow community, getting to know eachother and sharing and learning.

PLAY ! It doesn't all have to be deadly serious; enjoy it. It works better when you do.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome, @TarotMellio , @Tulips and @Tjesi - I reckon you've come to the right place! 😄

Lots of space for exchanges here, and regular circles to join in with.

"If you could go back and give your newbie reader self advice starting out, what would you say?"

Hmm. Look beyond the keywords... they usually miss the point. Listen to the cards, rather than just learning them.

This is exactly what I would say I do? It's fascinating and positive experience for me!

I think people are going to have different and personal opinions on this, but my biggest thing I wish I could go back and tell myself is that its ok to not memorize the cards. I felt really down on myself for having to use reference materials, I even threw away my first deck's LWB thinking I needed to be able to read without it, but now I just think of the LWBs as extensions of their decks. That card from that deck means something a little different from that card from another deck. I enjoy doing readings a lot more with that freedom and peace of mind.

I still feel new to tarot. I go through big breaks of not using my cards. Partly because I don't know anyone personally who I can grow with in tarot. Another reason is because I feel I need to have an idea of what each card means. But after reading some of the comments on here and watching videos, I'm finding learning each card meaning isn't necessary. If I can go back to the year 2009 and tell myself learning the card meanings isn't important...I feel I wouldn't of had so many gaps in my tarot journey.

I've met members of tarot forums, but in the years since I picked up my first deck (2006 I think) I have  yet to meet anyone in real life who uses the cards. And for many of those years I managed to insert it the conversation just to find out 😉 We are a very small tribe. Probably why forums limp along, we rejoice in finding someone to talk to about the cards.

Welcome! Come often and post plenty ~

The journey is all a process and I wouldn't change anything. Although I bought an oracle for my first deck, thinking it and tarot were all the same 🙂 I've kept the oracle though, it has a special place in my heart.

I read many many books, kept what I wanted from the all and discarded the rest. Did a lot of workbooks, always learned something. Use my cards every day. Can't learn tarot if you don't handle and use the cards.

I remember when i first started learning Tarot i used a number of easy exercises with meditation. The one that worked best for me was to lay one card under my pillow at night and then i would dream about the card imagery, Surprisingly the next day i would then look in the LWB to see what the meaning meant and often my dreams would connect with each meaning, I think consciously our intuition links in better with the card images rather then trying to learn by book meanings,

That's why knowing the card meanings is important. They keep you from going off the rails.
If something pops into your head and it's compatible with the card meanings, it's probably relevant. If it's not, it's noise.
Brains can be very good at making noise, lol.

This. People have this idea that they're supposed to be reverent. But Tarot itself can be very irreverent!

Hi, I am new to practising tarot too! I always had a strong interest as I’ve had a lot of dreams etc that come true and to be honest I was a little scared. But I’m just too curious to not learn so have been playing around the last couple of months getting a feel for them, I feel I can relate not too bad but have so much to learn, hoping this forum helps 😃

I’d say it’s linking the cards I am not as confident in 😫

Just relax and enjoy learning it.  It is a never done deal--you'll be learning new things with the tarot cards as long as you keep on playing and reading with them!  Its the never ending story, learning to read them, which also makes them such a great thing to play with!

That and practice, practice, practice!  🙂

I’ve been practising every day,I had a very strange well quiet actually disgusting call last night in my way home from work, came up as no caller I.D and the person ( man) was like whispering, at first I thought it was a 10pm prank call but then I head what was being said and from what I heard (sexual act and talk) I hung up. I have no idea who it was as I don’t give my number out at all and have a strange feeling it was someone that knew me but didn’t want me to know it was them, I tried to use tarot to help indicate whom it may be and got the cards justice, judgement and emperor reversed: confused me more lol

i know the tarot isn’t going to literally tell me who it was but I was hoping to get an idea about the person or personality so I can beware lol

It really looks like he's already been in hot water with the authorities (Justice reflecting Emperor reversed) and might be on probation or parole, or at least been put on notice at work. Do you know anyone who's been in trouble for pervy stuff? Or drugs, not that all druggies do this by any means, but perverts on drugs are horrible. Anyway Judgement is affirming that he's up to his old tricks.

What you can do in the meantime is not answer private calls (the ones with no caller ID.) Some phones can be set to automatically reject them.

If it continues, talk to your carrier about having a trap put on your line.

I don't even answer calls from numbers I don't recognize unless I'm expecting a call from a client or somebody like the vet (they tend to call back with different numbers.) This not only screens out the weirdos, it screens out the telemarketers and autodialers.

You could put this outgoing message on your voicemail: "I'm sorry I can't come to the phone right now but you must leave a message. I've been receiving annoyance calls and the phone company has a trap on this line. If you do not leave a message I will assume that you are the annoyance caller and this call will be traced."

If you do answer the phone and it's him, try saying "Operator, this is the call" and then hang up. Or say the word "trap", the time and date, and then hang up.

It might tell you. If it's actually someone you know, you could do draws on different people that you suspect

@katrinka

I would just like to remind you that this is not the place to discuss personal readings.  The place for that is the Personal Readings section which you can get access to once you have 5 posts.  I am not locking this thread yet, but if the discussion on the reading continues, then I will!   (I realise that some of this was not discussing the reading directly, but it is important to remind people of this, particularly with lots of new members around).

Welcome to the forum, new members!

If you're referring to me replying to someone else posting about their reading, that needs to be clearly stated.
I do client readings and I do NOT discuss them publicly.

This bit here.

I apologise, I realise your confusion in what I wrote.  I did mean discussing the cards that the person above you posted.  I will edit my note.

Thankyou, I tried that last night after suspecting my brother in law. I’m wondering if  it could have related to him, I know in-laws and the law are different but I guess I could interpret it that. I did block him a few days ago on social media as I thought he was getting a little creepy but I didn’t expect that.
