ShaylaSky Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Hi everyone. I’m really new with the tarot cards. I bought a moon deck. Is the moon deck reliable? I’m wondering if I may have bought the wrong type of deck. Can we practice readings on each other?
Raggydoll Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Hi there! I think it might help if you showed us what deck you mean. Is it a moon themed tarot deck or an Oracle deck? You can’t learn tarot with an Oracle deck 🙂 You can exchange readings with other members when you have reached 5 posts. It has to be done in the right forum section and there are rules to keep in mind, so you will benefit from reading this: https://www.thetarotforum.com/rules/

What are oracle decks for then?

For divination, it’s similar to tarot but tarot is a defined system with a set structure and a basic ‘language’ of meanings that most tarot readers recognize. Oracle decks are decks without the tarot structure and they can be anything that their creators wanted them to be.
TheLoracular Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Hi @ShaylaSky We were all new to this once. Be patient with us and we will help all we can. To learn basic cartomancy, fortune telling, any deck will work. There are parts to this forum for these other non-tarot or oracle decks too. The reason you will see the Rider-Smith-Waite or RWS tarot deck talked about or shown about the most is because its the most popular and easy to find in a multiple of languages and countries. It isn't the best, its simply easy to find, cheap to buy, and has the most content online to support it 🙂 Whatever deck or decks you fall in love with, tarot or oracle, we can help you learn how to use them for fortune-telling and lots of other fun stuff if you keep coming back and posting. 🙂
Ekati Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Welcome @ShaylaSky!!! I think it could be easier for you to begin with the Rider-Waite deck.
