New Device Login Emails

Featured Replies

For over a year now, the only two devices I use to login to my account are my desktop and my laptop. For the last few months, whenever I login from either device, I get the following email:

Since I'm only logging in from two devices over and over again, is this a "better safe than sorry" notification or is it a bug?

Chrome seems to do this every time it has an update - it's one of the reasons I avoid using it - the other is the way it tells you how many passwords have been pwned - my partner keeps being told he has 97. As he only has about 10 in total, we find it hard to take seriously.

I get these from my email provider and even my BANK ! (Opera seems to have started doing it as well.) I think it sees what it thinks is a new device, when it's actually only a browser update.

Chrome is the only browser I use and this has never happened to me, nor have the other problems you mentioned.

The internet sure can be quirky, but it beats carrier pigeons and smoke signals any day.

I suspect this is a better safe than sorry moment.

Do your browser's automatically clear cookies/browsing history when you exit?  Whenever I clear those sorts of things I get these messages.

I remove specific cookies and cache when needed. I don't do blanket cache/cookie removal. And no other site (including another tarot forum) that I log into sends me new device login emails, only this one. And I don't have automatic cookie/browsing history deletion turned on.

It is also happening to me.

Whenever I sign up on my ooooold laptop, all is fine, BUT when I sigh in on my new one - same address- I do get this message - from this forum only!

Thanks Mi-Shell! It's comforting to know I'm not the only one.

I get them from everywhere because I *do* clear my history every time I close a browser window - but my ISP doesn’t assign me a static address. Can that make a difference?

I purposely deleted all of my cache related to thetarotforum.com because I'm seeing this, which I KNOW can't be right:

So, of course, when I logged back in from the same computer I had been logged into before deleting my cookies, I got another new device login notification email. @Little Fang do you have ANY idea why this would be happening? This is the only site that sends me such messages.

I recently changed to doing all my banking on a secure browser from my anti virus provider. This secure browser produces a special version of your regular browser but stops people tracking or watching your mouse / keyboard commands in banking and when you need security. It also won't allow any add ons to run and deletes the cache / cookies after every visit and you cannot override it. There is a rule in the UK/ EU now that you have to have 2 factor logging in for financial sites but you are allowed to save a browser as "safe" and to not do it every single time! But this secure browser deletes the cookie every time and I have realised all the visits information is in a cookie from the site. It will not save my log in for the future 😬

I log in to this site from my laptop and my phone and sometimes I use different IP's (phone on mobile network etc) and my ISP also uses dynamic addresses, it works fine for me, it is not the changing of internet provider or location, I am pretty certain it's stored cookies. One time my cookies corrupted on Firefox and I did have to do 2 factor to get into my account here and had the security email 🙂 Just weird some people are always affected by it

I had to login again yesterday. I confirmed before I logged in that I had cookies saved for the forum in my browser. Strangely enough, I didn't get a new device login email. 🤷‍♂️

@DanielJUK I do have McAfee LiveSafe on my computers. As far as I know, it doesn't clear my cache when I quit the browser (which would only happen in a reboot unless Chrome was using too much memory), so I don't think that could've been the cause.
