smittenkitten Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 Hi all, So nice to find an active tarot forum out there! I first got into tarot 20 years ago, and read quite frequently in my teens and twenties. The last ten years or so I've mostly let it slide as I am an atheist, however I have kept a few favourite decks and books. Primarily I'm interested in the psychological aspects of tarot. I am hoping to explore the realm of tarot once again, preferably with a new deck. My current go to deck is the Osho Zen Tarot, which I understand is controversial. I like it because the images are so direct and easy to read. I still have a copy of the marvellous Inner Landscapes by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki which I would like to record the meditations from for the cards. I would definitely be open to reading with a more traditional deck, although I confess I find the Rider Waite rather uninspiring. I'm a big fan of Ciro Marchetti's artwork, although I've found sometimes his cards are a bit hit and miss at conveying meaning. Anyway I would be grateful for any suggestions that anyone may have as to a suitable deck to deepen my tarot studies with. Cheers, smittenkitten🐱

HOLMES Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 (edited) Welcome indeed. Sounds like your just getting back into tarot but never really left. Some things pop to mind 1. Psychology aspect of the tarot has made some strides.. You could spend hour reading up on tarot and that. With book reviewz 2. Osho zen is a highly spiritual book/deck. I used to love it before i seemed to out grow it. It just didn't flow for me afters. 3. There have been text books like never before that have come out. Worth reviewing 4.regarding waite deck perhaps an waite inspired modern deck may interest you.. Like the pictorial key to tarot. The classic llewyln. 5. Perhaps regarding your interest in psychology you could look at thoth, lon milo book on understanding crowley thoth book. 6. Finally this is a great place to iffer readings. Or do a self study in uour teadings. 7. Have you looked at the arthurian tarot andthe yearly hallowquest. I found tbe landscapes didn't interest me. 8. Ah yes old ciro his decks are good. But no deck is really perfect.i think his later decks are even more beautiful 9. Careful friend.. as you look at decks and bokks. You become a famous tarotacholic like rest of. So be discerning before spending your cash hehe I spend hours searching tarot decks and books on amazon And some decks worthwhile are on etsy, gamecraftetr Edited April 7, 2021 by HOLMES

So be discerning before spending your cash hehe I spend hours searching tarot decks and books on amazon And some decks worthwhile are on etsy, gamecraftetr I've done some preliminary searching on the psychological aspects. I'm yet to find any books but have found the Facing Demons series of spreads quite useful. I'd definitely be interested to hear any recommendations you have. I also have a copy of Tarot For Yourself by Mary Greer which I thought would be fun to work through with the right deck. I'd definitely be open to giving a modern Waite a go - I will check out your suggestion. I've never been drawn to thoth, funnily enough, I think the artwork is a bit too abstract to me. But historically I find him an interesting figure, along with other mystics like Dion Fortune. I've not heard of hallowquest, but it sounds interesting. I used to have quite a strong connection with the Glastonbury Tarot so perhaps something Arthurian would suit. I haven't bought a Ciro deck in probably 15 years? I should check out what he's making now for sure. Oh, I'm definitely a tarotholic! Just need some new ideas to work into my current practice. I primarily use it as a tool for self reflection, so I like the idea of documenting what I've learned in a thread. I haven't read for others in a long time, but maybe one day the courage will return! Thanks for the warm welcome and all the ideas! smittenkitten 🐱
smittenkitten Posted April 7, 2021 Author Posted April 7, 2021 And just like that, I have a Llewellyn classic, Tarot Grand Luxe, and a copy of the Holistic Tarot on the way. Ooops. I guess I'm committed now!
HOLMES Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 I felt like that squirrel pretending to offer an apple in enchanted. Try it..its good
smittenkitten Posted April 7, 2021 Author Posted April 7, 2021 @HOLMES Hehe, it doesn't take much convincing for me to buy books, especially ones I can use for psychological growth!
