Since (per another thread) I'm really over gilded edges, I don't know that I'll get the MM copy, but we'll see. 

 

The next and final sale of the KS batch won't be until January, so nothing on that front for a while here.

Gilded?! NOOOOOOOOOO! When will publishers finally realize that the majority of the time, cheap & tacky gilding ruins a deck?

 

(I am happy to hear that the mass market version is coming out so soon, however. I assumed it'd be years.)

Note that this says EDT but the US is *not* on Daylight Savings at the moment, so I commented asking if this was a typo. It likely is, so that would be Noon EST.

 

This is the last of the KS decks, and notably the last of the non-gilded set.

I saw this on Instagram last night and was hoping you would post about the final sale @Niobium 💕. I made a note in my brain about it to come back to.

 

I just put it on my Google calendar in the local timezone and convert it and only EST exists 😀. For UK folk this is 5pm next Monday, Cental Europeans 6pm, Eastern Europeans 7pm.

@gregory This was my concern, there are parts of the US which do time zones different, so you'll see something like that and it could be legit. (Eg. Arizona doesn't do DST, but the Diné Nation does. Makes driving in that area interesting!).

 

However, not the case here. He confirmed that should be EST, so @DanielJUK's conversions will be the ones to use.

And now, for those awaiting the MM edition, Fyodor had an update on his IG.

 

The tl;dr is that the printer USG originally had lined up to do the deck refused to print the nudity due to local censorship laws (in China, in this case). USG has found a different printer willing to do the deck as-is (plus gilding) but it's pushed the schedule back to Fall 2022. The deck will still have the foil back, 2-part box, etc.

Yeah, was my thought as well. x.x I kind of wonder where Valenza's decks are printed, now...

I saw Fyodor's update on instagram (gosh it had many frames to read through going right 😆) and found it really interesting.

 

There are 2 parts to it which are very intriguing....

 

1/ The censorship. Fyodor's art does have nudity but it's the first time we have heard of deck printers refusing to print in this way. China and other areas of the world are cracking down and having less free speech, could more decks be refused to be printed? Could tarot and divination entirely be outlawed? It's something to watch but China gets good business in cheap mass printing, however decks and other printing could go elsewhere.

 

2/ The delay. I know he says it will have all the premium features of the self-published deck now and is delayed. He says in the update that China shut down for the whole month for Lunar New Year in Feb which is true. But China has shut down almost every production line right now due to the Covid new wave they are sadly facing and there are warnings in various industries that this will cause huge backlogs again. I.T / Technology / Chips production, Consoles / Computer Games. I think we could see decks being really pushed back waiting to be finished by production lines. They have locked down in a strict way in so many cities now.

 

These are both trends that we will have to watch with all decks and if mass produced decks start changing printers. This is the first time I have seen a refusal to print but many artists have complained on social media of their mass market decks being held up by printers and delayed releases 😞 .

 

It sounds like it will be printed by a better printer, linen finish, premium features but will be delayed.

It was a printer in China that refused to list my deck on account of photos with real people in. It was weird - the deck is already listed twice (linen and not) but they refused a third listing when I wanted to add one offering a box... It's all very odd and kind of patchy.

Hmmm yes that's some nice packaging. Might get one even though it has the dreaded gilded edges.

Yeah but WHY do they KEEP doing this. Every time someone comes n here and says should I gild the edges when I have my deck printed and most people say please no - and still...

Nice if you like to see the deck sitting, unpackaged, on a shelf.  Gilded edges are pretty -- but after some actual use, ugly, ugly, ugly. JMHO

I've noticed some gilding can hold up to modest use but not everyone gets that kind done as it's quite expensive. (What I wouldn't give for an ungilded Ellis Deck x.x).

 

That said, this might work for a non-use, keepsake deck. That I wouldn't mind having.
