Vesta Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 This is such a great group with so many interesting discussions. I've been lurking but I want to join in now. I am a former library technician who is now blissfully retired. I live in Oklahoma in the U.S. with four Siamese mix cats named Kitten, Cosette, Ombre, and Vesta. One of my cousins taught me how to consult the I Ching when I was a teenager and I've been using it ever since. It's a very accurate oracle and has a wicked sense of humor. I started studying the Lenormand about six years ago and it continues to fascinate me. I've always had trouble connecting with the Tarot but now that I have more time I'm really starting to enjoy working with it. The discussions on this forum about the Tarot Fortune Telling Cards were so intriguing to me that I splurged and bought a deck. For whatever reason I connect to the images on this deck far better than the pictures on the Rider Waite. I'm also interested in learning more about the Vera Sibilla. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here!
legendaryelement Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Welcome to TT&M, Vesta! My dream job would be to curate a museum or private library of metaphysical books & divinatory items. I look forward to seeing your posts!
HOLMES Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Welcome Soon the lenormand section be open Which lenormand decks do you like? Do you prefer pips on your lenormand or none. I am going to go google vera sybella As for tarot. It is as you say. If you can't do well with images it is harder.. That is why i personally don't do well with marseilles, and pip based deck. katrinka Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 Well, hello! I did a throw on my job recently and got K'an the Abysmal. 🤣 Additionally, it's Water and the roof has been leaking a bit there. When there are a LOT of books and websites on a subject, most of them are always bad (since it's trending and there's a bandwagon) and it's confusing! This is a good free resource: https://sibillareadings.wordpress.com/ I've found exactly ONE good book. It's overpriced, and the author tends to plug her now-defunct courses in it (I'm told that they were a ripoff anyway!) but the information is otherwise solid and there's more than enough here to learn to read the deck and get pretty good at it with practice. I don't regret spending the money. https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/alessandra-venturi/italian-cartomancy-learn-the-vera-sibilla-italiana/paperback/product-1k97y75j.html?page=1&pageSize=4
Vesta Posted May 28, 2021 Author Posted May 28, 2021 Thanks for the lovely welcome everyone! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply, My laptop keeps dying on me so I guess I'm going to have to break down and get a new one. Any recommendations? Hi @legendaryelement. You and I have the same idea for a dream job! My favorite part of my former library job was working with rare books. We once had to process a set of the Journal of the Society for Psychical from the late 19th century. It was fascinating and I took a lot of notes! Hi @HOLMES . I started off with the Dondorf when began studying the Lenormand. I still like it very much but after I saw the Brepolis on the Game of Hope site, I felt as though I had found The One. I use the pips more and more all the time. They help me understand the tenor of the reading and I've found that the playing card meanings for individual cards can also help. I haven't studied the Kipper yet but hope to. I like the imagery of the older cards particularly no. 18 Ein Kleines Kind where a child is riding a goose (?) who is wearing waders. Bizarre! Hello @katrinka. I believe I recognize you from other forums and I'm very glad to see you here. You've always had great insights on readings of all types and the history of the cards. I look forward to talking to you here. That's hilarious about the I Ching's "abysmal" reply to your work question. When I was much younger and used to ask about my love life constantly, it would invariably give me Meng, The Young Fool. That was certainly on the money! Thanks for the Vera Sibilla references. They look excellent. I'm going to start saving for the Venturi book, lol.
