WizardintheWoods Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I don’t mind admitting when I have made a mistake. I started my Lenormand System studies about 7 years ago. I absolutely didn’t listen at all to learning one method and went and gathered every book in English I could find. I also was very lucky to join one of Andy B’s Cartomante Cabinet courses. Then - in my wisdom LOL - I went off the rails and cobbled together a system that is oh so many things combined. One of my friends calls it “eclectic’ in nature. Now my readings are okay, but…… I am seeing how much more defined, direct and accurate it is to use Method of Distance. So I am going back to the blackboard, erasing a lot of the trash and even starting a new journal to use as a reference. I am going to be using Andy’s Book along with my notes and a few screen prints I have from his class. I post this for two reasons. One. I might ask more then a few questions and these are to get cobwebs out of my mind. Two, it’s a post to also let anyone know, who might be in my shoes, it’s okay to go back and start again. There is no shame in anyone doing this and in fact I might pat myself on the back for taking on this challenge, as I am almost sure it is harder to unlearn and relearn especially after this many years of “eclectic” readings ! Any advice, it’s welcome here and I thank you in advance for it!
katrinka Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I always heard prodigals get the ring, the robe and the fatted calf when they return. I don't have a robe or a fatted calf, and I'm keeping my jewelry, but welcome back. When I first started with Lenormand, there was nothing in english. And computer translations were nothing like they are now. I knew about Waldfee, etc., but the translations were gibberish then. I was learning from a German lady at a yahoo group, and later with a Belgian lady who had taken Erna Droesbeke's course. Neither of them was very good at it. I started branching out and incorporating everything I could find and my readings were mud. So I went through a similar phase as your "eclectic" one. When the Treppner course came out, I had to unlearn a lot of things and then, all of a sudden, my readings worked. Later, when I found Andy, his material helped me refine everything and flesh it out. I think everyone who is learning Lenormand should study the Method of Distance. Even if they don't intend to use it. Reading combinations is reading "near" meanings, you're just not taking the "far" cards into account. And Distance is full of gems related to positions, things like whether the Ring is on the left or right, whether the Lilies are above or below. (A lot of people dismiss those because of the mention of things like "virtue" - they think it's archaic, an anachronism - but then they go on to ask questions like "Is he cheating?" LOL.) Andy's book is excellent for Distance. Another one you might look into is Bjorn Meuris's Petit Lenormand Encyclopedia Vol. 2. Those are the ONLY two that talk about Distance that I'm aware of, but they're enough. Let's leave it at those two - I do NOT want to see youtube videos with sock puppets on the subject!
joy Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 @WizardintheWoods In my opinion it is a strength to admit an mistake. Please ask questions it helps me as a newbie too! @katrinkaare you really sure you do not want to see any sock puppets?
WizardintheWoods Posted July 17, 2021 Author Posted July 17, 2021 @katrinka thanks for the encouragement! I have all of Bjorn‘s books ( that was a $$ investment) and wasn’t sure quite how they would dovetail with Andy’s book. I am quickly seeing how this is changing my viewpoints on cards as I create a new workbook/journal to study and work from. More clear and direct! I think I will need to find a way to practice that doesn’t involve daily draws - they can be too vague for me to learn from I think, at first. My constant issue at hand has always been questions to ask while practicing. Using topics from the news feeds doesn’t bode well as these days stories seem to veer off topic when started. I am wondering if anyone has questions they typically ask to work with or perhaps questions that work well with the Lenormand might be it’s own topic? I have heard others struggle with this area of studies as well so anyone with input on how this please by all means chime in.
joy Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I do not do daily draws but ask 'real' questions. For example if there is a meeting on a particular day I would ask specifically 'how will that meeting go'? Almost everyday there is something taking place we know in advance. That makes it less vague as it is asked for a specific situation.
katrinka Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 You can do practice readings on virtually anything. I was just in another thread suggesting doing them on how a book or movie will play out. And you can check your accuracy really quickly with those. You could ask what's coming in the mail today, or about the weather...anything, really.
WizardintheWoods Posted July 18, 2021 Author Posted July 18, 2021 @joy and @katrinka, thanks for the ideas. Looking into something that you know in advance will happen seems quite helpful when said as it was.
