During this weekend of doing tarot readings, the young ones 15 to 20ish. Kept telling me about watching tarot readings on tik tok and you tube.Ā

I would say about 50 percent.Ā

I ran into a tarot reader in the making

šŸ™‚

Ā

So they were open more to tarot readings having seen them on tik tok.

Ā

i haven't watched any tik tok but for the humourous tarot video shared cpuple of months ago.

That doesn’t surprise me. Many are probably also learning from Pinterest and Instagram. Ā I’m not so sure that it’s any better or worse than when we senior readers started out. There were mostly books back then and while some books were good, many were very bad. I had to resort to what I could get through my local library so I had to make my way through a lot of bad books. Then eventually I could use internet and order books or read blogs etc. No videos existedĀ back then! šŸ˜„Ā

From my experiences in the UK, nearly all under 30's cultural talking points stem from Tik Tok these days so it's no surprise that tarot features there.

Ā

When I picked up tarot in my teens, there was no internet like what Raggy said. The books were awful, they were all like "keep practising with celtic cross spreads" 😮

When I came back to tarot in my 30's, the internet made it so wonderful to learn and be a part of.

Ā

Now the next generation are doing it all through videos. Although I hope they join our text based community šŸ˜†

A little off topic.. i never could understand pinterest..

All i could figure was just a picture?Ā

Same with vines

Course lots of things have come and gone. My space ?Ā  Msn messenger became fb messenger.

Ā

Yeah back in 92. I only had 4 to 5 books.Ā  The good celtic was how i learned.Ā

And all these followers , subscribers..Ā

I suppose i should search tarot in tiktok see what is out there.

Ā

Ohh i remember my first tarot video.. i didn't think it was possible to learn off it. Vsh maybe 1994 .Ā

On Pinterest there are often links to sites and people promote their stuff that way. Particularly tarot spreads are popular, and they are often linked to theĀ creators blog or website.
Ā

I think that it must have been 1995 or around then when I first ever saw a tarot deck/book featured in my moms mail order book catalogue. It was a set of cards plus book and it wasn’t cheap. I couldn’t afford it but my uncle bought it for me for Christmas. IĀ also remember going with my grandmother to antique bookstores. I was looking for tarot books but couldn’t find anything interesting. I do remember that my grandmother bought me a vintageĀ book about palmistry instead. It was quite an unexpected thing because she was a Christian, but she wanted to be supportive. Plus I do distinctly remember she told my grandad ā€œit’s just a phase, I hopeā€ 😁

Thanks for sharing katrinka as many of tarot newbies really are newbies in life, being young and many impressionableĀ

@HOLMES Pinterest is basically virtual scrapbooking. You make a board on a theme (or many boards on different themes) and then you follow feeds or images. You then browse through and pin the images you like on your boards. It's kinda addictive and fun. If you do it a lot, you start to really gain people following your boards and pinning what you have pinned. Some people plan their wedding or holiday or home with it. I realised after 12 months of doing it that I had better things to do with my time. It is hard work that you are not paid for lol. It's basically eternally sorting images coming through a feed.

Ā

I think it's quite unethical, people post images on there and do not credit or attribute it back to the source. A friend who is an artist, had his digital images stolen from his website and not linked back to him. It was almost impossible to contact someone to report a breach of copyright. A lot of tarot postings are not credited. Back on AT, someone posted an AT user's tarot spread on Pinterest. It was a Halloween seasonal spread that was a firm favourite and it was put on there as a basic image laid out (not made by the creator). The creator of the spread wanted it removed or just it linked to her username! She just wanted credit that she made it. She got it taken down but it just shares and shares. I have gone cool on the site because it's just a lot of recycling stolen content. I see other people's content all the time on there, not credited!

Ā

I look for spreads these days on instagram, there about 20 accounts just posting or sharing other people's amazing spreads. Some are quite specific, like one about moon phase spreads, another about queer and bipoc justice type themed spreads. On instagram they always credit the author / creator which is really interesting. I am always collecting spreads for the future so I dumped Pinterest for it!

We should have known TikTok couldn't be relied on for tarot after all those food and kitchen "hacks" videos which are not true or even dangerous šŸ˜†

I have never used tiktok and don’t want it on my phone. Aren’t people aware of how when you install it, you’ve given away all your personal data and your privacy away to - let’s just call it a country and a regime (to not get too political)Ā for them to use freely? If someone didn’t know this, go look it up and learn. It’s the number one offender app and what it does without you knowing is downright scary. They even track people’s movements without their permission. Just saying. People need to get off tiktok for that, but also for the crappy tarot readings šŸ˜„

I believe that has been solved once the app has been purchased by another company. Also that is true of any social media app, to be honest! (except in our own country.)Ā

I hate tiktok anyways. I'm too old for it.Ā
