BlueToy Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 (edited) Hello all! I'd just like to post that I've finished two adaptations of a Milanese-inspired tarot deck. They're called Tarocchi Antichi Pittorici (Old and Painterly), and Tarocchi di Marmo Nero (Black Marble). They're adapted directly from the illustrations in the public domain book, Prophetic, Educational And Playing Cards, but I did embellish some and removed some details (like the Hebrew letters). I ended up with two styles. A more painterly one (the minors are color coordinated) and, something that I ended up really liking, a dark, negative one that reminded me of veins and flecks of gold in black marble. These two will be under a new "studio" I developed with a friend called GIACAMO (taken from his name Gian Carlo Moreno). On my part, this will host my adapted works (e.g. works adapted from historical, public domain material) with my Paraluman Studio housing my more original tarot art. This will also be hosting my friend's card-related art (I am hoping we get to pick up work again on the Tarot of Achromatic Impressions). We're holding an introductory pre-Etsy sale of both decks until September 5. It's $5 off each. They will be available for $44.99 each for smooth 300sgm stock and $49.99 for 310gsm linen stock. Their regular price in Etsy will be $49.99 for smooth and $54.99 for linen. The sale will also give you your choice of packaging between a white tuckbox with a plastic window in front, or a black velvet pouch. Also, if you wish to purchase any of my Etsy decks along with either the Antichi Pittorichi or the Marmo Nero, I will also give each a $5 off discount, so the new prices will be (just for this sale and only for this order and not in my Etsy shop): Tarot VANDESTIJL 300gsm smooth stock - $44.99 Tarot VANDESTIJL 310gsm linen stock - $49.99 The Gravenchase Lenormand (Bridge size) 310gsm linen stock - $29.99 Anino Lenormand (Poker size) 310gsm linen stock - $29.99 The Gravenchase Lenormand (Mini size) 310gsm linen stock - $24.99 Anino Lenormand (Poker size) 310gsm linen stock - $29.99 Payment is via Paypal. If you are interested, do message me here with the decks that you are looking into getting so we can get a quote for shipping too. Thanks! -Ly PS I hope everone is well and safe wherever they are. It's such an extaordinary time we are living in. To those asking after me - thanks! Times are busy and hard (hence this sale - every bit helps during these times!), but are rewarding too. I am art directing a wonderful Southeast Asian Collaborative Tarot called the SEAMS Tarot (Southeast Asian Myths & Stories Tarot), and am about to launch the Kickstarter of my own frankendeck called The Blue Deviant Tarot hopefully next month, consisting of art from one of my artistic periods in Deviantart, dated around 2004-2008 (and also still working on the Discorporae Tarot, when I have free time). PathWalker Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 They look wonderful Lynryd! Are they shipping from USA - P&P and associated costs are getting very high for us here in UK so I thought I'd ask. Be happy PathWAlker

I actually remembered you the other day. Someone in Facebook posted pics of the tabletop Singer she was restoring and I remebered our conversations before on sewing. Lol sorry for getting sidetracked. Anyway, the decks will be shipped directly from my printers in Hong Kong. I have had orders to the UK and shipping seemed... Reasonable. I could check if you want. I remember too that they have shipping hubs in the US and the EU - I'll have to ask them if this means the decks go under the radar in terms of customs and the like - like if they would be mailed locally. Thanks, and I hope you are safe there. These tines we lve in!
PathWalker Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 Really laughing out loud - that "someone" was me I thought you had made the connection, because of the lovely shot of a patchwork deck I use as my header - but you have so many fans I got lost in the crowd - big smiles! [ O/T - I have about dozen vintage machines and work on them for folks locally who are trying to get hand-cranks working again] Yes it's shipping costs and then customs and duty at this end - all adds up dreadfully now. Just bought a vintage deck from USA but won't be able to do that again - ouch! Let us know what the situation might be if you can - and very best of luck with them. With warm good wishes PathWalker (and Lego nerd)
DanielJUK Posted August 24, 2021 Posted August 24, 2021 lovely to see you still creating in these times @BlueToy ❤️ The Tarocchi Antichi Pittorici is so beautiful and colourful! They both look great already 🙂 @PathWalker I bought the Gravenchase Lenormand but before Brexit happened. I seem to remember it arriving in the UK really easily and with no customs issues. I can't remember where it came from though, if it was through the U.S or a European hub.
BlueToy Posted August 25, 2021 Author Posted August 25, 2021 @PathWalker Hah! I remembered your name but thought it was someone else with the same name. Your other hobbies confused me 😄 We used to talk more about gardening and sewing. I checked shipping rates to the UK - they aren't too bad at all! $12 for standard and $19 for registered mail (does standard come with tracking, I wonder? I always opted for registed because I had the impression that this was the option with tracking). I am not sure about how customs fees will work, but I have had orders to the UK before and they did not seem to be issues with that - they were mailed from Hong Kong. @DanielJUK Thank you! I was really surprised too with how the colors and coloring style turned out. I normally color in a more area-specific style, but attempted to emulate the rougher, cruder, "coloring past the line art" style in the TdM. 🙂
PathWalker Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Thank you for the info I am a woman of many talents!
BlueToy Posted August 25, 2021 Author Posted August 25, 2021 @PathWalker That you are! I hope you still sew too! Someone asked if the art in both decks are the same. Yes they are. They are adapted from the same charmingly quaint book illustrations which in turn were based on Teodoro Dotti's woodcuts in the Milanese pattern. There are of course small differences because of the stylistic treatment I developed for each deck. Here's a side-by-side comparison of both Death cards (I am loving this nameless, numeral-less approach and will probably use it other future decks). -Ly
Flaxen Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 These are beautiful! Can’t decide which one I like best.

I like how both ended up but am slightly partial to the black marble one because it does look rather striking and I can see potential in how it can be used for other tarot projects....
BlueToy Posted August 26, 2021 Author Posted August 26, 2021 Another sneak peek. Looks like someone finally had a go at that old bag of bones, Signore XIII 😄
