DanielJUK Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 Let's get this thread back on topic and back to @DarkMoge's opening post which was about blessing tarot decks and discussing if anyone else uses rituals with it or uses them for occult work.

So, by definition, that is higher levels. No, the definition is not relative to what you learned as a preschooler. It refers to mathematics of more advanced content than algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and beginning calculus: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/higher mathematics 17 minutes ago, DarkMoge said: Though, it goes beyond that, when you learn math in college/university or work with it on more scientific level, you pretty much discard numbers and work with letters substitution. I know people who use that in their livelihoods. They do not "pretty much discard numbers" - on the contrary, they find a beauty in them where we less mathematically-inclined would find a headache. But in any case, it's completely irrelevant to reading cards, which IS what we're here for.

Oops, we seem to have posted at the same time. My bad for any part I have played in this. * zips lip *
malvina Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 I just wanted to say that today I performed the kind of blessing I mentioned a couple of days ago. It didn’t take much effort or time: I simply spread a blessing oil over my palms, rubbed them together to create some heat, then held my decks, asking them to help me in certain ways. This was a simple gesture, but I like doing those to bond with my decks. I don’t have a set belief on how cartomancy works, but I feel more comfortable as a reader when I talk to the cards, thank them, etc. Again, this doesn’t require anything from me, but my confidence in my cards’ honesty and accuracy gets an extra boost.
katrinka Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 I like my hoodoo condition oils and floorwashes, too. 🙂 I don't use them in a very ritualized manner or in connection with cards, but I do like them. It never hurts to use things with traditions of pulling in a bit of good luck, and even if nothing happens, they smell nice. 😁

But yes, a lot of what I incorporate into my daily life are folk-ish traditions that aren’t exotic or elaborate and enhance my routine regardless of their “supernatural” effects: pleasant smells from sprays and incense, pleasant sounds from bells, etc. Little things here and there that add up and make my life more magical. Burying my cards in salt, leaving them on a window still under moonlight or ringing a bell over them doesn’t cost me anything but at the very least achieves that goal and gives me peace of mind.
Jewel Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 @katrinka LOL ... good point, thanks for pointing that out, call it a lack of proper terminology on my part 🤣 @gregory I loved that you pointed out in whichever thread that there are certainly some things that can only be pre-determined.

That's me, too. A lot closer to "root doctor" than "Regardie." 😁 1 hour ago, malvina said: Burying my cards in salt, leaving them on a window still under moonlight or ringing a bell over them doesn’t cost me anything but at the very least achieves that goal and gives me peace of mind. Those are things I don't do. But if my cards ever started acting weird, I'd certainly do them.
Krislynner Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 To answer the initial question about blessing decks: I don’t consider what I do to be “blessing” a deck because that has a certain religious connotation to me personally. I do, however, cleanse and mark my decks. To cleanse, I do one of several things (smoke cleanse with palo santo, speak over it with my breath, gently tap the deck, pass a crystal over the deck) Whichever of those I do, I speak an intention over the deck to cleanse it. After the deck is cleansed, I then go through the deck looking at each card while speaking it’s name. Then I spiritually mark the deck with my sigil and ask it to work with me. I suppose it’s a type of spell as I say the same words every time and use the same sigil. This takes maybe 10 mins or so so it’s definitely short and sweet. I don’t really work any elaborate magick (in terms of time spent on a certain ritual etc)in my practice.
Eric13 Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 I think there does have to bee some kind of connection with a deck. It has to say something and feel right to me. But in the long run by that, I know myself well enough to say that being a guy, saying something to me means it has to be visually stimulating. Felling right to me means the deck should actually feel good in my hands when shuffling and laying the cards down. If all that doesn't work for me then I can't connect with them. And I guess those aspects would be my blessing of the deck. But. we're all different and have our own beliefs and that works.
