Feeling Tired after multiple self readings.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Not sure if this post fits here. I have noticed that when I go on a roll of multiple draws or questions I start getting physically tired. Is this a normal occurrence? Is there a way to reduce the effects?

Thanks in advance!

Multiple readings do that whether you're reading for yourself or others. I think it's for the same reasons that people get tired at desk jobs. And even that is a bit of a mystery:

The best way to combat it is to take breaks. Go outside, walk around a little. Stay hydrated. Eat a little something starchy, have a cocktail, shift gears somehow and then go back to reading. The trick is to regroup between readings.

And if you still feel drained, well, take a nap.

You started it in totally the right place @Ashleigh 😀

A lot of us readers are sensitive people and sensitive to energies or emotions and many are empaths. Doing a reading uses a lot of spiritual energy (lets call it that). Some people do techniques or meditations to ground themselves, others use crystals. I know I get exhausted by doing a lot of readings on myself but also reading for others. Especially if it's a reading which is emotionally tough and I do have to space out readings for other people. I am not sure how some professional readers do many many people a day, I would just be exhausted out.

For me it's totally to do with the readings accessing our intuition, our spirituality, our subconscious. It's like a vigorous physical work out sometimes for me but in a spiritual way 🙂

If it happens, take breaks, take rests, space out your readings more! Drink plenty of water during readings, you can really dehydrate. There are many websites online with advice about crystals and grounding you can do.

It's a pretty common thing

What they said ^

Pace yourself, go outside if even if its not nice, take deep breaths.

I would not recommend trying to counter it with coffee or eating, thats not what its about. Just adding this from experience.

Yeah, moderation. A slice of toast is good, a food coma obviously isn't. Same with coffee, alcohol, etc. Just enough to trick your brain out of "sustained effort" mode. And consuming things is just one way out of many. So you're doing something like reading, take the dog out, reading, light snack, reading, yoga/stretches, reading, cocktail, reading...switch everything up.

What everyone has said - but also - multiple self readings? I wouldn't ever try more than two for myself in one day (I would say stick to one, but others would jump on me !) They are draining in themselves, and also, they merit being considered properly, and any messages taken on board.

That's a good point.
I don't try to analyze myself with cards, but from the readings other people do, it does look like they need to be spaced.
The self readings I do are the ones having to do with my own life, and even those need time to play out. Asking if your gift to someone will arrive in time for Christmas means waiting until Christmas. And reading on the same question over and over will get you garbage. If the cards say your neighbor stole your lawn mower, it's pointless to read over and over until they say he didn't.

I don't so much get tired but the quality of my readings take a dive. This could be related tiredness, of course. With little spreads, I can keep going for quite a while. Big boxes, tableaus, et cetera, my first is good, second, okay(ish), after that..... meh to nada.

Thank you all!

I have a tendency to get on a roll with things, and get a little over zealous. I will start spacing them out and definitely take breaks. I just want to absorb and learn so much.

This was part of my point. That takes time after a reading. Good luck !

A crash course in some things work perfectly well. Tarot is one of those areas that can and maybe should, take years of experience. And the best way to  learn and get experience with tarot really is to do readings for other people and get their feedback.

I just want to add that doing readings will get you used to the cards' manner of speaking, but not necessarily the interpretations.
There's an old Little Johnny joke where he's playing a guessing game with some other kids. I won't repeat the whole thing here, but the punchline is "Last week it was your eye. This week it's your a**."

Cards are like that. Just because the King of Swords was your boss last week doesn't mean he's your boss this week. It's more complex than that. Maybe last week he was surrounded by cards talking about your job, but this week they're talking about something else. Maybe you're asking a different question this time that has nothing to do with work. His identity depends on context, and it can be tricky sometimes.

Perhaps not physically tired, but I feel my interpretive skills dwindle if I continue too much. It's like Spirit's saying, "Nope, no more for you. Go do something else."

It can be draining, particularly when one has been reading on heavy topics. When I start feeling this way, it's usually time to put the cards down and redirect my energy elsewhere for a while. I always want to make sure I'm mentally, spiritually, and physically ready to receive the information that's coming to me. 🙂

definitely draining, but I have to ask...if you're doing multiple readings on yourself...are you trying to get a specific answer? because I find that when most people do multiple readings on themselves its because they want a specific answer and aren't willing to stop until they get the answer they were looking for...

I agree with you @gregory
