The Snake would be the partner in some of the lines - particularly the cards that connect it with the Lady, but there may be others. In other lines, it might be talking about something else, like plumbing and pipes. 😉 Ok great, thank you!

Exactly. It's all moot since it's generally not something anyone does anyway.
fire cat pickles Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 In case your interested, the Game of Hope Lenormand by bigcartel has extra Lady and Gentleman cards that face different directions. This could be an option.
katrinka Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Yes, most of the decks there have those. I like that site, and I've accumulated a good number of those decks over the years. But as Andy said in the thread linked earlier: "However a lot comes down to perspective. Offering readings with an extra Gentleman or Lady card looks inclusive and, therefore, good. But it is tokenism. How many of these extra Gentlemen and Lady cards reverse the suits and numbers? What do we do for bisexual or pansexual Querents? And do Queer people have no members of the opposite gender in their lives?" Suppose you are going to do a GT and you add the extra Lady card to the deck, but remove the Gent so your spread will be symmetrical with no extra card sticking out. But gay people DO know people of the opposite sex, and they can be important at the time of the reading. And that's the entire meaning of these cards: someone who is important to the sitter at the time of the reading. The Lady and Gent aren't automatically partner cards. So if you remove the Gent, you could be missing an important storyline about the sitter's male relative, friend, boss, etc., With the Gent removed, you have an extra spade in play and a missing heart. And what if the cards themselves determine that, say, the Child is the partner since it's connected to the sitter's card by cards like the Heart, House, etc.? Now you have to puzzle out who that extra Lady is (and remember, she has no meaning other than "A woman who is important to the sitter at the time of the reading.") I have a lot of extra Gentleman and Lady cards. They make nice bookmarks.
joy Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 Thanks @katrinka that is very valuable information, great points!

coinilius Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Sorry to revive this thread, but there has been a number already on the significator cards and how they relate to people who are non-binary, homosexual, bisexual, etc. I saw this deck on Etsy, the LivingSymbols Lenormand, and saw that it uses the Joker as the card insert on the Person cards that it includes (it has many variations of man, woman and person cards), and was wondering what people thought of that idea? It caught my attention as I’ve been thinking over what to do with the design of ‘extra’ cards like those myself, and was considering the idea of using Jokers and possibly Blanks on the card inserts, but wasn’t sure if other people might find that tacky or off-putting. For context, I’m a gay male who doesn’t actually use the ‘replacement’ cards when they come in a deck, but I like thinking about designs and compositions of the cards, and possibly accommodating cards like that with as little ‘interruption’ to the system as possible (or maybe creating more interruption in a different way, I don’t know).
Anesiadora Posted June 18, 2023 Posted June 18, 2023 To me it's less about being the actual gender and most how someone might be presenting at the time. So if the Man card comes up, I would read that as someone who is presenting more masc at the time. There's a ton of indie decks nowadays though that have significators for every gender. Personally, I like the Red Hand Lenormand because it has a significator that's literally just a skeleton lmao, perfect for people who don't identify any one way or another.
