Just got the cards of the postman ( a new postman, now what could that mean, fresh start?) and I'm wondering what to do next?  Look through them all with the book on their meaning, or just pick a few, and start with them. Or anything else people think might be important.

Thanks all.  Rick.

Go through the entire deck and look at each card. Then eventually start to look up the meanings.

Yes have a look through them, take notes if you like. Then try a card a day, look it up in the book and form your own opinion. Some people like to think up 3 core keywords for each card (their own ideas, maybe different from other interpretations). It's really just using them in a basic way and getting used to them 🙂

Wanted to make a suggestion, if you like you can take out a Journal in our forum (Journals are here) you can start a thread in that section and write down anything you like on your tarot journey. You just keep using your same thread and keep it all in there. You can study each card and write notes or use it anyway you like. I thought it might be useful if you want to record anything as you go on

What great idea, and that is just mine, but others can view yes?

sometimes they come in order but more often not. Always put the cards in order to ensure you aren't missing one. That has happened to me at least a dozen times over the years. Recently published decks you can usually get a replacement from the publisher, out of print decks not so often.

One of my favorite exercises with a new deck is to speed journal. Go through your deck and on paper write what jumps at you with each card, looking at them for maybe 5 seconds.

Yeah, other logged in members can view it, but it’s all yours 🙂

Yes what @Raggydoll said, you need to be a signed in member and have made 5 posts to see the journals. There is some privacy and it's not public on the internet. All our exchange and reading areas have this privacy level. It tends to be regular members logging in who can see those posts 🙂

The usual etiquette is that people don't reply on people's journals. But if you want people to give ideas or help with any of your posts, just write it on the post or start your first post thread with your intention and people can comment on your journal or you can to keep it to your own notes. You can make it however you want, think of it like a journal of writing or a scrapbook!

I've found it's also nice to just start a simple written journal about some of my decks. If a deck is one I'm digging into it gets it's own journal, but otherwise I just put them all in the same one and label the pages. I don't buy anything very specific, just Moleskin or the like. This way if I'm out somewhere and something occurs to me I can whip it out and write it down.

I find that looking at each card and jotting down the first thing that comes to mind helps me 🙂

When I'm about to draw cards, should they be in suits, or all jumbled up please Giana? I know I shuffle them twice, the split/cut them. What side then do you take the cards from please? R?L ?  Thanks for the kind mail. Rick.

Normally cards have to be shuffled very well. There are reasons you want to split them up into suits. But normally one would not do that. You shuffle as long as you feel it is needed. Some readers spread the cards in a fan and then draw. Some make piles and take the top or bottom cards. It really is totally up to you. There is no right or wrong. Hope that helps?

Yes 100% does thanks. I did a proper shuffle, and cut twice, before doing my own reading just now, thanks again Joy. Rick.
