Apologies for the rather enigmatic title but that's my question in a nutshell as I'm brand new to tarot reading. In fact, I just got my deck today.

I made sure to cleanse my deck first and get acquainted with the cards, making sure to take specific note of how each card makes me feel and what they mean to me beyond the meanings of card names themselves. Then, I decided to take the deck for a test-drive by drawing a three-card spread which felt incredibly accurate. Is there anything that I missed? I'm worried that I'm doing it wrong.

You did more than I do   (I have never cleansed a deck in my life, unless you count putting a smelly one in my now famous box of lavender candles...)

Good luck with your journey  You sound to be doing OK.

One thing I wish I knew when I started learning tarot is that it's about finding your own way that works best for you! There are many methods and approaches and many right ways. Often readings will go wrong or make no sense at the start. Keep practising and using the cards, they start to make more sense! Go easy on yourself, the beginning of the journey can be frustrating but you will improve 🙂

If all the rituals you do make the reading work better for you, that's fine. Some people throw all their cards up in the air in the living room with no techniques or cleansing and just randomly pick cards and that works for them. Both are fine! Don't feel any pressure, you are starting your journey and have a tarot deck, so you are doing tarot right

Do what feels right for you yes. If at a later date you abandon those practices (like I ended up doing) at the very least you wil have a pleasant sense of nostalgia about them!

I'm with @DanielJUK that I wish I had had known there were many other options way back when....

Thank you everyone for your advice! I had heard many people say that tarot is a personal and almost intimate practice but I still wanted to be sure. It's quite relieving to hear that I can't "mess things up" per se but rather that my readings and interpretations of the cards will most likely be off, at least at the start. Indeed, I did some readings today and was left scratching my head like "What...?" compared to yesterday's which was so clear.

It's a long road ahead of me but I guess everyone has to start somewhere! 😁

@ZenGardeyou're doing great!  I believe there is no right or wrong with tarot, (just generally accepted

established meanings in regard to the traditional RWS decks).  You've done more than I do with most decks.

Good luck with your journey!

I really want to try this now. Imagine you throw them literally everywhere.  You make an interesting story, and a very long one, about the situation when you go ahead and collect each.

Hey and welcome 🙂

I too am new to this forum but have been reading for over a year now, don't worry about feeling like a stranger to the cards, or feeling like you should be doing it a certain way, its all about practice and learning new techniques, and there is no "right way", only what's right for you.

Good Luck on your new journey 🙂

I'm new to this too, but I don't get to metaphysical or arcane about rituals. DO get to know your cards, find a deck you really like, and do readings in your spare time over, and over, and over just to get used to what can happen in a spread. There's no wrong way, as has already been said, but don't try too hard to be all in. It's a pretty deep well if you want it to be, but you can just take a sip too.
