Rachelcat Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 Hi, weekly crew! I'll be in this week with the Tarot of Japanese Poetry. Just gotta figure out how I'm going to read with it!
Wyrdkiss Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 What I need to move forward creatively, the next step ( Left ), planning initiated, Darkness of Light tarot. What the world needs from me at the moment, knight of wands, Thoth ( right). Execution of my vision. I will be pairing my Deck of The week with others this session.
fire cat pickles Posted August 12, 2022 Author Posted August 12, 2022 I'm starting mine early this week, too. I won't be posting mine tomorrow as I will be too busy:

I'm quite fond of how each suite had a subtle color in the background. Note on the left the pink surrounding the image, the color for Wands in this pack.
DesertRat Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 I am going to try to actually work this the Tarot of White Cats this week (unlike last week). 😊
Bodhiseed Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 I'm in with the Cosmic Tarot paired with the L'Oeil de Lotus. Thank you for the new thread, Fire Cat! Glad to see you back again, @Wyrdkiss. @Rachelcat, I look forward to seeing your work with that deck!
Agnes Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 Sign me up, please. I’ll be using my new Ghetto Tarot. I love the deck but am iffy on the name (& have read lots of discussion here & elsewhere on it) so part of this week’s work with it might include deciding what I’ll call it.

I will put it down as Unique Tarot Card Deck, Haitian Art, Rider Waite Inspired for now.

Yes the name is a very odd choice. I'm looking forward to seeing more examples in action, I don't know much about the actual design. Thanks for joining us .
Bodhiseed Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 This week I'll be using the Cosmic Tarot, created by Norbert Losche and published by U.S. Games. I'll also be drawing from L'Oeil de Lotus (Eye of the Lotus), created by Colette and Gérard Lougarre and published by Vox Arkhana. Today's cards are the Nine of Wands and Death: A young man defiantly faces forward, willing to meet rather than avoid what comes. The wands and the lion behind him represent past struggles that he's had the courage to push through; the snake and wands before him represent the strength and perseverance he'll need to rise to the next challenge. Dealing with adversity for months and years requires not just physical stamina, but mental as well. Yet the Death card suggests these hardships will not require an ongoing sacrifice. As the Masai proverb states, "There is no hill that never ends." The pomegranate indicates looking within ourselves for our power rather than relying on anger (which will deplete our energy and cloud our thinking). The butterfly atop the hour glass implies that seeing this through will change us in ways that are liberating. Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are. ~Arthur Golden

DesertRat Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 I am feeling rather meh about the Tarot of the White Cats. I think it's the cats dressed like people that's putting me off. It's too bad really, the artwork is quite attractive. I think I'd like it better if i were just people instead of cats. I believe I will try to re-home this one and stick with more catty cat decks.
Agnes Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 (edited) This is a day of firsts. My first participation in this thread, my first day really using this new deck. And I've never really done daily draws or used three card spreads, so that's new, too. On top of that, I picked up an interesting used book yesterday about using tarot for practical advice rather than predictions or working on inner growth (Janina Renee, Tarot: Your Everyday Guide) so I thought I'd toss that in there, too. When I saw photos of this deck I was smitten. Photographic decks don't really do much for me but this one sure did. But I was also concerned about lots of justice & equity issues -- the photographer is a white woman, the name really raises my hackles, etc, etc. And I'm an older white woman in the US swooning over images of poor Haitians; is this just poverty tourism? So I did a lot of reading about the creation of the deck, and I'm still doing a lot of reading about Atis Rezistans, the Haitian arts group involved in the deck. Obviously I decided I was comfortable buying and using the deck, and I don't want to derail this thread. I might write about what I've been reading elsewhere, though. The founder of Atis Rezistans Andre Eugene, who is also the founder of the Ghetto Biennale, appears only once in the deck although his artwork is in several cards. He posed for the King of Brooms (Wands), and I wanted to look at that. The brief description of the card in the LWB is "Charismatic Leader." Gifts: Inspiration, spiritual activity, a strong will, mature, passionate, vision, entrepreneur. Challenges: Tyranny, egoism, intolerance. "The goal of many leaders is to get people to think more highly of the leader. The goal of a great leader is to help people to think more highly of themselves." - J. Carla Nortcutt. Anything that you undertake with an understanding that comes from maturity will bring enrichment to your lives and to the lives of others. (Agnes here) I don't always follow LWB interpretations of cards but this is certainly an interesting way to present Andre Eugene within the deck. For my daily draw I had three positions: something to do today, something to avoid doing today, and something to think about. The cards I drew were The Fool, 4 of Cups, and Justice. Well. Something to do : be open to new experience, even if you feel foolish about it. To me this speaks to both my renewed interest in tarot (I've pretty much been away for 15 years) and to all the new experiences I listed at the top of this post. Something to avoid doing : avoid being blind to the joy of life and the things being offered. Avoid jadedness. Something to think about : Justice speaks to all the issues around this deck for me. I find it interesting to think about how this card differs from Smith's image. The machete is single edged, and it is not perfectly straight. The scales are not balanced. The sharp edge of the machete points towards the same side as the lower pan of the scales, and that wall is stained and reddened. The LWB doesn't suggest that any of this is intentional but it's what catches my eye today -- justice that is not evenhanded. Renee's book is not one I'd heard of before. I haven't read reviews yet but found it an interesting read. She basically suggests that you ask for specific things to do, and that the cards you get will demonstrate a way to act. She writes about mimicking the poses in the cards, etc (and about how to adapt her WS-heavy interpretation to other decks). It's intriguing but will it work? I asked two questions about a specific discussion I'm having with a person in my life who is very dogmatic and defensive. Is it a good idea to continue this specific conversation? And if so, how can I best approach it so we can talk about this topic but not just call each other names? Well, look who showed up. (I promise I shuffled a lot!) My first reaction to the King of Brooms is : he looks chatty. Renee's book says that court cards represent "modes of thinking and acting that you can adopt in order to deal with different situations." She says that this king is very active & decisive, a take-charge guy, but also that he is a good communicator. I'm taking this as a yes, keep talking. My second question was how to do so productively. I don't really get any intuitive message from the Knight of Pentacles. Renee says, go ahead with your plans but proceed slowly and cautiously to minimize risk. Emphasizes commitment to something long term and to efforts that create structure and order. In this particular situation I would say it advises me to keep in mind the long term structure of this relationship. The face of this knight really strikes me -- he looks closed off and perhaps suspicious. I hope this isn't me and it pretty much is my conversation partner. Maybe I need to keep that in mind in our conversation; what I say is not going to be received with the open generosity of the King of Brooms. All in all, this seems quite interesting. Wyrdkiss Posted August 14, 2022 Posted August 14, 2022 @Agnes I love your post, because that is part of the point of this group IMO. To sort, and assess, and accurately determine what packs are going to most effectively serve our needs as tarot practitioners. As for your the deck -- you gotta be kitten me! its adorbs! Just joking, I agree with you.
