Is it alright to use an oracle deck written in another language?

There are some Oracle decks whereby the English version has been out of print and is not easily available in shops. However other language versions of the Oracle decks are available (eg Spanish etc.)

Is it alright to use an oracle deck written in another language even if you don't know that language? I can manage by translating the words in the cards and guidebook using Google Translate or other translation websites?

Do you think it's okay to do so? 🙂

Thank you.

I can’t see why it wouldn’t be okay? Who would have an opinion on what you’re doing with your own decks? 🤔 If you feel like it - do it! 😀

You can either translate the titles or read the imagery intuitively. I am a big believer of creative freedom. Sometimes I’ve removed titles when cutting of borders (typically because I want to make the deck smaller and easier to shuffle). I have also been known to remove titles from one or two tarot decks and turn them into an Oracle instead. Personally, I’ll do whatever I feel like with my decks, and I don’t worry about anyone else might think. It’s very freeing and I do recommend it 😊

Like @Raggydoll said it's fine and sometimes the writing can get in the way! It's so annoying when it's an essay on a card!

I would make sure....

- you like the art work, if you read intuitively from the art, can you read it well by looking at the cards?

- if you read more text, make sure you can translate and understand the ideas of the cards and the titles

Then you will be fine! You might even find some discussions / guidebooks / text through google of the cards in English. Our old tarot forum Aelectic has many archived study groups in English and we have study groups here.

I have a French and Italian tarot decks, the French RWS titles helped my French language! 😆. I quite like having decks in other languages but I don't have any oracles in different languages yet
