Agnes Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Sign me up. After two weeks of stretching my brain, I think I'm going to use my old reliable Merrimack Waite/Smith and see if it feels different now.
Bodhiseed Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I'm in beginning Sunday with the Morgan Greer Tarot paired with the Celtic Book of the Dead deck. Thank you Fire Cat! 🐈

Thank you Fire Cat! 🐈 Wow, two oldies but goodies! Sweet 70s vibes! And I find the Celtic Book of the Dead to be trippy, too! I look forward to seeing them in action! My "easy" deck (I hope!) this week will be Golden Age of Romance Tarot Card Deck by Bobby's Tarot Decks on Etsy. (I really need to slow down my tarot acquisition so I can keep up with one per week!)
fire cat pickles Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 Welcome back @Agnes, @Bodhiseed, and @Rachelcat!
Mi-Shell Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 As presents I received 2 Oracle decks from one of my students. No idea yet, what they are about. One is the Heart path Oracle cards. It looooooks a bit New Age like - - - I will investigate it this week and report back. However, I will also continue with my Bird calendar divinations; just may not post something here every day....
DesertRat Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 Happy Friday! I would like to spend more time with the Electric Tarot, if you please. 🥰

I'm always happy to see it. ❤️ Years and years ago I found a Morgan Greer in our charity shop. It was quite grimy and well used. I did clean it and found it a nice pouch, but I NEVER read with it 😲 So I think, it will have to go onto my DotW list!
Mi-Shell Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 Daily Bird calendar divination for the weekend of August 27 and 28 2022: Western Grebe s with chick: To me this picture speaks of nurturing and protecting. The watery environment reminds of an emotional situation The long dagger-like beaks of the parent Birds warn that this is not so easy and much care and deliberation has to take place, so as not to injure the fragile chick. The important things I am protective of are right now - our little Raccoon kids - that developed into rambunctious teenagers with sharp teeth and long claws. Soon theyr cage doors will stay open and they will slowly take their leave from us and drift into the wilderness that is their home. The other thing in need of protection is the teaching project I am doing with the 5 churches in the area. Fragile trusts will have to be strengthened.

Rachelcat Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 This week I’ll be using the Golden Age of Romance Tarot by Bobby’s Tarot Decks on Etsy. It’s made from covers of 50s-60s romance comics. Yes, there were romance comics! I got the poker-sized version which comes in a little plain bag. Cute backs! Obviously, we’re not going to see much diversity here, but I’m thinking there might be some unintentional humor a la the Housewives Tarot. And I’m not sure how the romance theme will work with readings for myself. Let’s see this week! Interview time! Wash and shuffle! Most important characteristic: Six of Wands It’s a winner! The players are smiling, maybe making fun of the happy couple, but also happy for them. Even at this winning moment, Ms. Cheerleader still grasps her megaphone. Strength: King of Swords This clever and forward-thinking gentleman has remembered to bring an umbrella, to the benefit of the young lady. The deck is clever in its attributions. It’s not just a gimmick, it makes a real effort at adding meaning through the illustrations. Weakness: Two of Swords More football! She’s making a considered decision between the footballer and the pipe smoker. Oh, wait, she has another photo in her hand, and more on the wall behind her. This decision is broader than between two, but I guess it’s good she has such a large field to choose from! With this deck we’re spoiled for choice? Maybe too many cards are similar? What I can learn from the deck? Judgement I can learn to rise above the seemingly petty concerns of the comics and get a glimpse into real life situations. Is the woman choosing between the man and her friend driving away? Or is she coming to some higher realization that she is going to face consequences for what she’s chosen to do? How can I learn it? Five of Pentacles Here’s a stereotypical bad girl, drinking too much, hanging out with the wrong men. Which one led to the other? And she definitely isn’t happy about it. Which ties in well with the previous card: I can learn that actions have consequences. Some things, like gambling and drinking, are considered immoral for a reason, even if they’re thought of as “victimless crimes.” Often they hurt the person doing it most of all. Outcome of our work together: Three of Pentacles Ok, this one kind of breaks the RWS mold. Three people, check. Out doing something pretty earthy, riding horses, check. This means what you see is what you get: the outcome is I will get out of it just what I expect, romance, fun, some real meaning. And some people won’t be happy with that, like the looking-on young lady! Well, that was fun! Let’s see what happens with using the deck for my new moon reading!

Bodhiseed Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 This week I'll be using the Morgan Greer Tarot, created by Bill Greer and Lloyd Morgan and published by U.S. Games. I'll also be using the Celtic Book of the Dead, published by Grange Books, created by Caitlin Matthews and illustrated by Danuta Mayer. Today's draws are the Ten of Wands and the Island of Plenteous Salmon: The Ten of Wands represents an exhausting struggle to complete a task or reach a goal. Sometimes the hardship is self-created when we add too much to an already full load. But other times - such as in the aftermath of a hurricane, a devastating illness, or great loss - we can only play the cards dealt to us. We simply continue to take the next necessary step as best we can. The 'Plenteous Salmon' card is part of the myth of of Maelduin's voyage; it began as a quest for vengeance that was soon forgotten as the Otherworld was explored. Before arriving at this island, the voyagers had spent a week at sea with very little food. The hostel they discovered was empty but filled with food, drink and beds, as if the island itself was offering hospitality to the men. Together, these two cards encourage a nourishing pause that allows us to rest, recover, and proceed with clarity.

I’ve been looking at the cards — in order, randomly, in different orders — and just floating in them. So many amazing details. Such provocative images! I wish they were four times as large. I’ve also been reading the companion book. I like seeing alternate versions of the cards and learning something about the creation of the images. I appreciate reading the meanings Valenza intended for the cards but expect that mine will shift some — and it’s nice to read that he expects that to happen. Look at these pages and knights. Aren’t they amazing? And here is the 10 of cups. All four suits are incorporated, which really intrigues me.

This deck is so well loved by so many people that for the longest time I thought there was something wrong with me for not liking it at all. I've gotten over that now. It certainly is one of the most creative decks out there, and it seems like you are really enjoying it! I've been bombarded with messages recommending more balance lately. Sigh. I suppose it's one of those lessons that takes a lifetime to learn.

There are a lot of decks I feel that way about — people rave, but I just don’t see it. I guess that’s the huge benefit of having a gazillion decks on the market. And one of the things I’m really enjoying about this thread is seeing people engage intensively with a deck that wouldn’t have caught my attention. I read an interesting comment on a reversed Temperance recently, that it might suggest backing off from micro-managing and attempting to keep things perfectly in balance.
Bodhiseed Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 From the Morgan Greer Tarot, Justice; from the Celtic Book of the Dead, the Wheel: In all the years that I've used this deck, I don't think I've ever noticed Justice's foot peeking out from the bottom of her robe. It reminds me of the paintings and statues of Green Tara that show one foot loosed from the lotus position - ready to take compassionate, wise action. We can have eons of intellectual discussions about what is fair, equitable and just, but nothing changes until these ideas are put into practice. The Wheel, with its emphasis on changing course, underscores this understanding. In the words of Barack Obama, "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."
Mi-Shell Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Daily Bird calendar divination for Monday, August 29 2022 Oh! Hummingbird! What a lovely surprise on a special day! Hummingbird id the traditional Anishinaabe name of my adopted daughter and today is her wedding anniversary! To me, the 2 blooming flowers represent her and her loving husband! All the VERY Best to you both, we are rejoicing with you!
Agnes Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Day 3 with the Deviant Moon, in which I attempt some readings. Spoiler: I feel it worked very well for me.
Mi-Shell Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Daily Bird calendar divination for Monday, August 30. 2022 Oh well, this Heron has his long neck all bunched up and almost in a knot. Wet feathers are blowing in the wind. Not only does this Heron fit exactly into today's weather pattern of intermittend rain and wind, he looks quite like I feel. A bit bunched up and in a knot, wondering what's next.... The churches are also all bunched up and tied in a knot about the frank and unvarnished truth to be presented to their congregations. Spoiler Nobody likes to hear about them, in many northern reservations promoting the practice to only giving housing and access to running water to families that converted to Christianity....
