AlbaTross Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 I've finally caved in and invested in this likely overpriced indie deck (it's really the shipping that's a punch to the gut): https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1437839905/78pcs-autumn-miss-tarot-version-2-4?click_key=4835cea8c7054097257769ade39a2f5119960ff6%3A1437839905&click_sum=b0d06c5f&ref=hp_more_from_this_shop-1 I think it's adorable though, and season-appropriate. Also, I've been wanting for some time to get a deck that has the Happy Squirrel, so...I really shouldn't have invested in this as I'm on a limited budget, but life is short, and I have actually wanted this one since last year when I missed out on the initial print run (glad they did a version 2).

I'm sure I will though, at least to the same extent that I love all the decks that I can likely say with certainty I don't use as much as I probably should to justify what I paid for many of them (that seems to happen when I have over 20). Still, I have typically enjoyed having different decks for different occasions, types of readings, and maybe general moods, so something seasonal makes just as much sense, I suppose. I also really like autumn and think it might be my favourite season, so there's that. Also, I think the particular deck I chose is my favourite out of that creator's four seasons sets.
Nemia Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 I have done my Autumn Equinox readings with decks that have an autumnal vibe. In 2018, I used the Field Tarot. Gentle colours, misty feeling, like a September morning. In 2021, I used the Good Karma Tarot, but actually, it's more of a summery deck... although it has strong, warm colours and some cards give me an early-autumnal feeling. This year, I'm going with the Förhäxa, and that's really autumnal. Other decks that come to mind: John Bauer Tarot - wonderful woodland scenes Guardians of the Night Tarot This is a dark and cold autumn deck.... colours glowing in the dark, somehow Sagittarian.... Woodland Wardens is a beautiful oracle deck in warm, strong colours. Pagan Otherworlds - absolutely. The Badgers Forest also has some strong autumnal cards although the overall feeling is probably late summer. I agree with those who think the Stretch tarot feels like autumn. To me, it totally does. Climbing up to the attic, opening dusty old boxes of family photographs, looking at yellowed old newspapers... thinking about the past while it slowly gets cooler and darker... then climbing down again with the pictures that spoke to you, to drink a cup of hot tea.... And what about the Kissa Tarot? Is it only the mustard-coloured frames and writing? No - muted, warm colours, and even where you have flowers and a feeling of warmth in the air, most of the deck feels Indian Summer to autumn to me. What we call in German Altweibersommer - the summer of the crone.

I have my fav decks SO far, but I tend to pick up more Lenormand decks than tarot because I read Lenormand more for others. 🙂 You are welcome to start one over there if you want to discuss your fave Lenormand decks 🙂 You did start an old one before, you are welcome to add to it over there -

I also like it for spirit work, which is something I often do in the autumn/winter. In Scandinavia, we still light candles on graves and honor our loved ones in October. Halloween is only really celebrated by kids and it is a newer thing. Back when I grew up, I had never seen a pumpkin in real life 😁
Nemia Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 (edited) Yes, I remember the same from growing up in Germany. Halloween was never a thing until some years ago, for kids and totally commercialized. I don't know about today, but when I was a child, there were a number of sombre days in October and November: Allerheiligen (All Saints), Allerseelen (All Souls), Volkstrauertag (People's Mourning), Totensonntag (Sunday of the Dead) and Buss- und Bettag (Day of Repentance and Mourning). More about these days here if anyone's interested. Some of these holidays are official state holidays, others are Roman Catholic or Protestant holidays. From my window, I could see a cemetery in the distance, and I distinctly remember watching the red candles burning there in autumn nights. That's one face of autumn for me - reflection, commemoration and mourning. The other face is the beauty of misty mornings and golden sunshine, captured perfectly by one of my favourite poems ever by Eduard Mörike. The darker side of autumn is probably expressed by the Ghosts and Spirits Tarot by Lisa Hunt, and maybe even by the Deviant Moon. But since I have no personal connection to Halloween it doesn't come to my mind when thinking about late Autumn 😉 Edited September 23, 2023 by Nemia
GreatDane Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 THANKS, DAN! Wow, I didn't even remember that one. You've made it so easy for me. 😁

I managed to get an unused copy second hand for more than half the usual cost, I can't tell you how excited I was! I really love it and it's beautifully made. 14 hours ago, Misterei said: I've always liked Pagan Otherworlds but never pulled the trigger to buy it. I have their Brut deck which I love ... your photos totally tempt me for PO. Do you read with it? How do you find it for reading (pagan otherworlds)? To be honest I haven't read with it for some time, I generally use the decks I have universally but the PO does feel like a deck I could only work with at certain times of the year. I wouldn't say it's the most forthcoming, in fact it came across to me as quite steely and distant. But, I have a bad habit of trying to do things the hard way when I'm learning something and I enjoy the challenge, it really makes me think. Also, as @Raggydoll says, the card stock is super slippery making it not the easiest deck to shuffle! I've been so tempted by the Guardians of the Night @Nemia, it's lovely to see it in action.

I've yet to buy it, but I keep getting drawn to it. The images seem to invoke the feeling of harvest for some reason, probably the colour pallet? But also memories of being in the woods as a kid with all the leaves falling. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and get it as my first seasonal deck and first oracle deck 😁 I have it and I love it! It does make a good deck for autumn! This time of year I also get out the old Halloween Oracle deck.
GreatDane Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Some very cool decks here! I always find the Anna. K (I have the one from her directly) very Autumnal🙂 And OF COURSE I will get out my first ed regular Bohemian Gothic (geez would just to see that original silver one in person someday!) That's very Samhain to me. And one of my variations of the Pamela Colman Smith...a go to. When I read tarot for myself, a PCS is the one I use.

I paid full price and had to wait for it to ship from Italy.😉 It's such a classic ... and the B&W images are Public Domain ... so I use those images for teaching ... I've not actually read with it much. I feel like it would read fine ... It's just more of a "museum piece or teaching aid" than an everyday deck for me. Do you read with it alot? 5 hours ago, KiMo said: ... PO does feel like a deck I could only work with at certain times of the year. It does have a bit of a distant "otherworldly" quality 🤣 And mostly I'm trying to get information from that "other" world to come through to THIS one ... so yeah i see your point.
FindYourSovereignty Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) The Twilight of the Gods Tarot: The Delphic Maxim The Serpent and the Peacock Art Edition The Tarot Minchiate Fairy Lights Tarot Urban Crow Oracle Tarot of the Secret Forest The Lonely Dreamer Tarot Spirits and Shadows Oracle The Oddity Tarot Edited September 24, 2023 by FindYourSovereignty
Raggydoll Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 The serpent and peacock tarot looks very interesting, but I wonder what happened to the hand of the Queen of cups 😮 @FindYourSovereignty Did the creator try and alter the artwork to fit the card, or do you think it originally looked like that? It seems almost as if her finger joints were cropped out and remodeled in another angle. I hope that’s not what the card looks like in real life.
Nemia Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) I noticed it, too, and took a closer look at the card. The hand looks a bit weird, very much posed. I think the pinky finger distracts from the image, but I don't know the original so I can't say who's responsible for that. There are some strange details in this overall very successful deck. I'm just sorry I didn't get a Kat-Black-like list of sources for the images... ETA: I found her - it's Carlo Crivelli's Mary Magdalene. It's the original art with very affected hand gestures. Crivelli's works are highly stylized, and I'm fine with that picture now 🙂 Thinking about the RWS Queen of Cups - I find her kitschy chalice a bit distracting and OTT, too.... Thanks for looking into this ❤️ It wouldn’t bother me either since it’s the original art. Now I just wish that this deck was available in Europe and didn’t require import from the US. I don’t want to pay that much for shipping and custom charges, it would almost be like buying an extra indie deck on top of the original price. oh well 😄

I have to admit that I haven't read with it yet 🙈 I saw you mention in your journal that you were too worried about spoiling it, that's the exact same issue that I have! The beautiful cardstock and corners wouldn't last long in my household... But I think I'm going to force myself to work with it over the next few months, I have been thinking about it a lot and glancing at it in my cabinet. That's a sure sign it's time to get the deck out of the box. Side note, it has my favourite representation of Artemis that I've seen post classical era, and to my mind she gives the Moon card an angle that I really appreciate. Quick off topic apology for my slow reply, it's been an unexpectedly challenging week 😮💨
Misterei Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 To @DanielJUK , @FindYourSovereignty and to anyone else i low-key scoffed at for the whole seasonal decks concept ... I just did an interview where the deck itself TOLD me it was an autumn deck 😆 Pretty cheeky! Ace Cups (which I read as Autumn) shows up in the position "Why did the deck come to me now?" I love when tarot makes me laugh at myself.

Natural Mystic Guide Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Check out these pix from my favorite Tarot artist Carol Herzer who created the 'Illuminated Tarot' and others... She is on FB under 'Carol Herzer'.
Morwenna Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Morgan Greer and Anna K for sure, especially in September and November. Also Halloween, for October, along with my "dark" decks: Gothic (Vargo), Vampire (Place), Vampyres, Alchemy 1977 England.
