Agnes Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 I'm going to work with the Wormweird Tarot by George Hingham, which I bought because the artwork looked so cool. Very creepy, and the cards are mostly made with Victorian waxwork techniques. Turns out that he created a whole narrative that the deck supposedly illustrates, revolving around an absinthe factory and an evil father?? I've only looked at it a little bit but I'm afraid it won't actually be readable. I guess I'll find out.
AnomalyTempest Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 I"m coming in with my TdM again. I'm not even sure what version it is. It came out of a discount bin at a bookstore and I haven't had a chance to look it up online yet. It was only last night I noticed that the Fool is numbered 21 on this deck with the World at 22. I hope things are settled enough for me to participate more this week. @Agnes that deck is really cool-looking. Very Halloween.
DesertRat Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 It's the 78 Tarot for me (the first one produced). I'm not sure how I will like working with a collaboration deck. But there were a lot of great artists involved, so fingers are crossed. @Agnes Your deck looks really spooky. I hope it goes well for you.
fire cat pickles Posted September 24, 2022 Author Posted September 24, 2022 (edited) Hey guys! You probably could tell I've been really busy the last few rounds so I'm sitting out this week. I'll pleasantly read along with your posts though and update the OP. Enjoy! Edited September 24, 2022 by fire cat pickles
Bodhiseed Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I'm in with the Tyldwick Tarot paired with the Antiquarian Lenormand beginning Sunday. Thanks for the new thread Fire Cat - I hope you have some down time soon!❤️
fire cat pickles Posted September 24, 2022 Author Posted September 24, 2022 @Bodhiseed love the Tyldwick!
DesertRat Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 (edited) I've been struggling with my spiritual path for years and years. Tarot helps me stayed centered and not go off the rails. Today she reminds me that my heritage has provided me with many spiritual gifts and successes, and my struggles are not for naught. In the end, I will have traveled the path meant for me (apparently with iPod in hand). 😉 Here's a less blurry image of The World card. Edited September 24, 2022 by DesertRat add photo
Bodhiseed Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 This week I'll be using the Tyldwick Tarot, created and self-published by Neil Lovell. I'll also be using the Antiquarian Lenormand, created and self-published by Maree Bento. Today's draws are the Chariot and the Lady/Ace of Spades: This charioteer is missing a few limbs - a signal that his efforts will mainly be a mental effort rather than a physical one. The tapestry behind him ("The Boar and Bear Hunt") emphasizes the charioteer's hunt for what he desires. The statue itself is that of a Greek ephebos - meaning an adolescent male who was of age to train as a soldier. His 'horses' are Naxian sphinxes; they were seen as merciless guardians of tombs and sanctuaries. In this card, they warn that we need to guard the mind well. The Lady is represented by Madame Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and she is the only woman to win the award in two different fields (physics and chemistry). She managed her many accomplishments while married with children. The Lady is a reminder that we should not let gender, class, or any other label stand in the way of the goals we want to reach. A gender line... helps to keep women not on a pedestal, but in a cage. ~Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Rachelcat Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 This week another animal tarot, Oriens Animal Tarot, published by Rockpool. As you see, the backgrounds of the cards is black. It’s edged in silver and the box has silver spots, but the cards don’t have gilding on the faces or backs. Oriens is Latin for east, and the artist-author relates it closely to the rising sun. The backs are a pair of compass roses. A quirk of the book is that the sections of info about the species are separate from the card interp section. Justice is VIII, Strength is XI. It interesting that the animal attributions aren’t closely tied to the elements of the suits, that is, not all swords are birds, and not all of the cups are animals that live in water, etc. I guess they have a stronger relationship to the meanings than the elements? We’ll see about that. I’ve attached a list the attributions. Wash and shuffle and interview! All but one is a major! I swear I shuffled! Most important characteristic: Eight of Wands, peregrine falcon The deck connects quickly, and is helpful with planning (8=mercury + wands=action). A falcon can quickly avoid arrows aimed at it, but this is a lot of arrows! Strength: Strength, reindeer Ok, strength is strength! The deck has its own power and isn’t afraid to be different. A reindeer is pretty strong to pull a sleigh. Weakness: Fool, baby sea turtle The baby turtle is just starting his life, coming out of his egg. This isn’t a deck for beginners? Or maybe it goes its own way a bit too much for easy understanding. What I can learn from deck: High Priestess, Wolf Love her pomegranates! I can learn quiet inner wisdom, rather than rote tarot knowledge. How I can learn it: Star, jellyfish By letting it be a blessing to me. Just be open to the good. So this is a bioluminescent critter? I never thought of a jellyfish as beautiful (more weird), but this one definitely is, appropriate for the star. And the compass rose/star makes another appearance here. Outcome of our work together: Sun, capybara The rodent of unusual size! It really does look like it’s soaking up the sun and enjoying life! The deck and I will get along and have fun and read about the good things in life! Well, that was fun! I’ll be back with my new moon reading this afternoon. Oriens Animal Tarot.pdf
fire cat pickles Posted September 25, 2022 Author Posted September 25, 2022 Hi and welcome back @Rachelcat 👋 Updated, @Bodhiseed 🙂
Rachelcat Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Thanks! Happy to be here! Here's today's reading from the new moon thread!
AnomalyTempest Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 (edited) @Rachelcat I love the colors on that deck. Here's my first reading of the week: Also editing in my New Moon reading which is here Edited September 25, 2022 by AnomalyTempest

I'm asking because mine is a First and it's so...I don't know if blurry is the appropriate term, maybe misty...that I can barely see anything. (Doesn't help that my eyesight has definitely declined over the years). I have to use magnifiers to see the images satisfactorily. I was wondering if the artist might've made later editions a little more crisp. @Rachelcat That deck is quite lovely! I don't think I've seen it before. What is the animal on the Sun card? Guinea Pig?
Bodhiseed Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 @DesertRat, it is a first edition. I think the intent was to be misty, as if you stumbled into a hidden estate. My scanner is what helps me see so many details I would otherwise miss. I'm curious about the later edition; I have a feeling it is the same since it was released after the artist's death by a family member. @Rachelcat, that artwork and colors of your deck are gorgeous!
MichaelH Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 I'm away from home at the moment (husband ran the Berlin marathon yesterday) but going home tomorrow so will start to use my new Guardian of the Night deck.

What is the animal on the Sun card? Guinea Pig? Yes, just when I think I have enough animal decks, I saw this one! The Sun animal is a capybara, a ridiculously large rodent! I don't know if they're all as serene is this guy, but wouldn't that be great! Wikipedia: Quote The capybara is a giant cavy rodent native to South America. It is the largest living rodent. Its close relatives include guinea pigs and rock cavies, and it is more distantly related to the agouti, the chinchilla, and the nutria. The capybara inhabits savannas and dense forests and lives near bodies of water. It is a highly social species and can be found in groups as large as 100 individuals, but usually lives in groups of 10–20 individuals. Adult capybaras grow to 106 to 134 cm (3.48 to 4.40 ft) in length, stand 50 to 62 cm (20 to 24 in) tall at the withers, and typically weigh 35 to 66 kg (77 to 146 lb), with an average in the Venezuelan llanos of 48.9 kg (108 lb). Females are slightly heavier than males.
AnomalyTempest Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 Here's my reading for the day. @Rachelcat Why the who is in the what is one of the best questions I've seen. 🤣
fire cat pickles Posted September 27, 2022 Author Posted September 27, 2022 Welcome to the group @MichaelH!

Why is the major, who is the court, and what is the suit card. And the ace is where! I like it for new decks and decks of the week because you get to see all the types of cards in one spread. It IS also fun to say!

Really interesting - I'm curious why they chose that particular animal for the Sun card. Does the guidebook explain? I'm not feeling many warm fuzzies for this deck, to no one's surprise, I'm sure. I don't know why I keep thinking that I will be happy with a collaboration deck. I never have been. Note to self - you may think you will like it, but you won't.
Bodhiseed Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Welcome to the DoW group, @MichaelH!🌻 @DesertRat, I've had the same experience with collaborative decks - there's always one artist that I love, but then there's so many of the other cards I don't.🙃 And often they just don't mesh as a whole. Sending good thoughts to all in the path of Hurricane Ian.❤️

The keywords are Positivity, Prosperity, Joy. I usually don't see Sun as prosperity, but the characterization of the capybara as being well provided for works with that.
