MoC Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 I'd like to read some other books apart from Andy, and Rana George.. but i am also worried that it may confuse me.. is there a book (author) that you would recommend that i should read anyway ?
HOLMES Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 You would be already confused I would wager on certain cards Rana says in her book she comes from the French playing style which means the playing inserts of certain cards come from French cartomancy. Andy b follows a German tradition where those same cards are almost reversed in court card meaning. If you read through the previous discussions, and debates you will various threads on books, and more. Andy b was once a member here but it didn't work out and he left. Like the tarot waite vs Marseilles debate. It was the same for lenormand, tradition vs experimental and so they created the experimental forum for those who want to explore So it comes back to books. The question to ask yourself 1. How much are you willing to spend 2.do you want to knoweverything or just one thing at a time. 3 are you looking for a teacher/textbook or a stepping stone to guide you. Example Andy b book like a teacher. Rana is a stepping stone. I have the andyb book Rana george. I found them both great reads, I found Rana focus more on the portrait box Andy b more on the 3, 5, 7 , 9 And both concepts help me. Tbh. I am still a lenormand beginner exploring it my own way. Caitlin Matthew's book is a good textbook, she well studied, it may serve as a bridge between Andy b and Rana work. I have Lisa Sutton book on kindle, it was discounted first by me, because she didn't focus on playing card inserts, and her first you tube channels was discounted. However her YouTube channel consistently put on instructional videos and I found of them I formative Lozzy philips kindle book Andy b reviewed as a good book, with some flaws in his forum post. I spent last couple of minutes looking for new lenormand books. Only one I saw that interested me was https://a.co/d/54S2m51 376 pages. I'm going to try to get it on kindle. I had my eye on Petit Lenormand Encyclopedia: Volume 1, 2. 3 But 40 for each book in Canada just slightly out of my price range. Of course it all depends on if you are actually going to use the book. Example you see some of the books are combos. Just 2 card combos for example. Something you see on fb Unless one is willing to do the work with the combos, it would like trying to read the tarot with a book.
DanielJUK Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 We all quite like Treppner's course. She is German and there are some mistranslations but she has good core ideas about the cards. I like her combinations and the section about the meanings about each card. We studied through it recently, you need to get to 5 posts to view the section but you are welcome to work through it with the old threads for each part. Come say hi to us in the introductions area to up your posts. Our course discussion section is here. You used to have to buy Treppner's course but it's now available to download free from her here I also saw Mary Greer once talking about a great reference book which has multiple sources of meanings about each card. I bought the ebook version on Kindle and recommend it. It's called "Lenormand Symbols: Exploring the Origins of the Images on the Cards" by Anthony Louis, I believe it's only an ebook in form. It's cheap and not that large but it's so useful to have all the different ideas about each card in one place. Really it's like an encyclopedia. I use it as a reference in every reading I do. This is the Amazon link, change the amazon at the front to your own country's domain to find it locally 🙂 - https://www.amazon.com/Lenormand-Symbols-Exploring-Origins-Images-ebook/dp/B00J7229O2 Do read our FAQ page here... If you are at the early stages, it's best to stick to one author or set of interpretations and learn that really well. Because they all have different ideas and takes and you need to decide on how you see each card 🙂
Sadewa Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Speaking from my own personal experience here... If you are worried that extra reading might confuse you, perhaps it isn't yet time for you to expand your reading, especially when you are already following a couple of writers whose methods vary. Lenormand is like a language, with different speakers using a slightly different tone. It's better to stick to one good credible writer to build a solid foundation (to a point where you are pretty sure how you would interpret the meanings of cards in different sceanarios) before you decide to branch out and take up some useful tips and tricks here and there from other writers.
