A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, some use two. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; be respectful of one other. Please join us!

You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in.

  • Please post with your chosen deck for the week.
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you.
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here.

I'm in with The Phantomwise Tarot which just arrived yesterday and Carol Herzer's The Illuminated Tarot.

So love my janky, little second/third/fourth? hand Illuminated. It's on the old, flippy floppy "cardstock" that's probably just laminated paper, with backs that look like a grandma's nightie and really do not go with the deck 😁. Wouldn't change a thing. I always forget (reading in rubbish light) that this has handpainted iridescence on it too, despite not being a special edition. Did Carol used to add hand painting to all her decks? I can't recall now.

Edited to add: I first typed out that the backing looked like drawer liners but wasn't sure how well that translated across countries. Just did some noseying and found that it literally was vinyl drawer liners for the backing back then. Love it 😄. And yes, not sure when she stopped but she did used to hand paint iridescence onto every card. Reckon this deck might be late 90s?

Have had a little play with the Phantomwise and am really pleased so far. Was disappointed to see the (comparatively) small images vs big title sections in online pictures but in person it really works for me. Pretty sure this deck's going to be a future friend.

I'm in with the Alchemical Renewed Tarot paired with the Oracle of the Radiant Sun. Thank you Fire Cat! 🧡

I'm in too.

I'll be using the Apokalypsis tarot by Kim Huggens and Erik C. Dunne. It comes in a big box with a large book so plenty of reading there. The imagery uses different cultures to represent the minor arcana suits (for example the Wands are ancient Egypt so the King of Wands is the god Horus). It's very beautiful and I'm looking forward to getting used to it. This is the last of my current decks to start using - I did a reading on the New Moon with it and the photos are attached.

She is a beauty isn't she. That 10 of cups is just adorable. Was supposed to be working with the Phantomwise right now but then kitty showed up all soggy and happy to see me, so we're wrapped up in a towel, snuggling under the duvet. It's a hard life 😁.

Hopefully some tarot time later!

Happy new week, everyone!  My kitchen has been transformed into a cookie factory, but I’m taking a break now while some cookie dough chills so I can then roll it into balls.

My deck this week is Lynyrd-Jym Narciso’s Tarot Vandestijl.  I picked it up from the Tarot Garden booth at NWTS.  I couldn’t resist it when I saw it in person!  And then I see it’s an add-on with Urban Incantations, but I don’t need to do that now!

Wikipedia:

Quote

De Stijl, Dutch for “The Style,” also known as Neoplasticism, was a Dutch art movement founded in 1917 in Leiden. Proponents of De Stijl advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and colour; they simplified visual compositions to vertical and horizontal, using only black, white and primary colors.

The most probably most famous member (at least the most known to me!) is Piet Mondrian.  I really like geometric art because I feel like I “get it” (unlike other modern styles that make me feel like I’m not smart enough to follow the plot!).  And as usual, Ly (I hope that’s the right name to use) gets the tarot right, right down to the titles in Dutch.  It follows the Marseille pattern closely, including curved swords and creator’s identification text on the 2 of Coins and 2 of Cups.  I’m usually not a fan of curved swords, but in this stripped down style, I don’t think there would be any other way to distinguish the wands and swords!  Omg, I just saw / remembered that it has de blije eeekhoorn (The Happy Squirrel)!  You haven’t lived until you’ve seen a De Stijl squirrel, and a happy one at that!

I’m eager to see if this clever art style deck is also a reader, so let’s go on to a good wash and shuffle and the interview!

Most important characteristic:  X Zwaarden

It’s part of an intellectual (swords) community (10), in terms of both the art and tarot.

Strength:  III Zwaarden

The best part of the deck is that it encourages us to learn something, and it’s the manifestation (3) of such learning (swords).

Weakness:  De Heremiet

But there might not be a lot of tarotists that “get it” or would enjoy it.  It’s an acquired taste.

What the deck can teach me:  De Maan

It can teach me strange, dreamy, and maybe dark things.

How I can learn it:  Ace Bokalen

By getting in emotional tune with it.  Give over to how it feels, even if it’s a new, unusual feeling.

Outcome of our work together:  III Staven

It will move me to a different tarot place.  We will manifest (3) tarot energy (wands)!

I’m not sure what to think about the deck so far, but I’m going to keep going and find out!

This week I'll be using the Alchemical Tarot Renewed along with the book Alchemy and the Tarot, both created by Robert M. Place and published by Hermes Publications. Paired with it will be the Oracle of the Radiant Sun deck and book set, created by Caroline Smith and John Astrop and published through Eddison-Sadd Editions. The draws for today are Death and Generosity:

death.jpg   generosity.jpg

Alchemists often used skeletons to signify putrefaction, a complete breaking down of matter into a black ash. It was considered the first step on the pathway to the philosophers' stone. Symbolically, it is a clearing away to make room for something else. Humans experience it when careers are ended, family and friendships disappear, or our beliefs and ideals are turned upside down. We rarely welcome such a clean sweep. Yet the Generosity card (Saturn in Leo) suggests it offers an opportunity, a chance to use this new space to grow something good that will be useful to others.

In spite of all similarities, every living situation has, like a newborn child, a new face, that has never been before and will never come again. It demands of you a reaction that cannot be prepared beforehand. It demands nothing of what is past. It demands presence, responsibility; it demands you.

@Bodhiseed, I would never have thought to pair those decks, but it seems to really work!

Here's my reading for today, fifth day of the moon month.

Deck interview spread:

1. Tell me about your energy.

Four of Rods

This deck is creative, active, joyful, involves community and gatherings.

2. What are your strengths?

The Tower

You are strong in moving things along, transformation, recognizing when it is time to embrace a necessary change.

3. What will I learn from you?

4P

I will learn from you how sharing my gifts and talents with the world, helping others, will bring me stability and security. I don’t have to hide or be protective.

4. What can I do to keep our communication clear?

King of Rods

I can listen, pay attention, and focus on the big picture. I can be sovereign in my beliefs and stay grounded in my spiritual power.

5. What else do I need to know about you?

Page of Rods

There are things you may be keeping protected or not out in the open. I will need to keep my eye on you and be willing to go above and beyond to learn all that you have available for me to learn.

This is going to be a good adventure for everyone involved. I feel a sense of trickiness about our relationship. While I was shuffling, I declared that I will not be reading reversals for this spread and, two or three times I found myself shuffling the deck upside down. Hmmmmm…. Sneaky! There could also be so sneaky energy in the 4P and the Page of Rods. The spread informs me that this deck is going to help me with learning, creativity, connecting with others, keeping strong and remaining in my personal power while embracing change.

There are two 4s: Rods and Pentacles, and 16 The Tower sitting in between them. Maybe discovering my creativity and community connection will bring the change I need to achieve stability and security, confidence that I am worthy to serve and receive. The numerology is 24 = 6 The Lovers which always brings me to making the choice of loving myself and that will free me to truly love others.

For me, that's, half the fun - finding a tarot and an oracle that work well together.😊

Your deck this week really makes me pause and look deeply at each card to see the figures within. The geometrical design almost makes the figures seem to move!

Day 1 Spread

What do I most need to be aware of:

1. An area of focus, general atmosphere or the overall energy at play.

Ace of Cups

New beginnings, new growth, my cup is overflowing, going out after a period of rest and receiving the light, the warmth of the sun, a gentle breeze and the earth beneath me.

2. This is the part of myself that is most active and of which I need to be most aware.
Knight of Rods

Now that I am outside what restrains me, the conditioning that has me doing what others want of me, I am ready to take action on my dreams and wishes: To announce and declare my true desires. I am free and I will conquer if I take action.

3. This is the situation that the part of myself (Court Card above) is concerned with today.
Four of Rods
Community, gathering, connecting with others along my path. Am I on the right path? With the right group of people? Are the people I am with empowering me and supporting me?

4. This shows why I need to be aware.

The Chariot

I need to be aware of the trajectory I am on and to shift if a different path is meant for me. Is this path balanced? Does it bring me joy? Am I heading in the right direction?

With all of the yellow in these cards, there is a message of it being a day of joyful clarity. Yellow is connected to the solar plexus which is where I feel my heart’s desires. If I still myself and listen to my feelings, I will know what to do and who I want to do it with. I will be divinely guided and nurtured. pay attention to my surroundings, my words and actions, the people I am with to view the current trajectory and with an open mind, consider new possibilities.

Numerology 12 = The Hanged Man - be open to seeing a new perspective and 3 = The Empress (also 3 is my Life Path #) - are my actions nurturing

Hey everyone!  Here's my moon day reading for today!

Scarlet Woodland
Posted (edited)

Haven't got as much proper work done as I'd hoped with a long weekend (DIY came calling) but I tried out a new spread from the Phantomwise book on Saturday night, the Celestial Navigation spread.

I didn't have any particular question in mind, so asked the Phantomwise to choose the topic it wanted to exlplore, when shuffling. I looked over the spread and asked the deck if I was correct in thinking it was about work, drew the ace of swords, which I took as a firm yes.

I took a light reading of the spread and decided it would be fun to repeat the spread next to it (with work in mind this time), with the Illuminated Tarot. I took another light reading and put the cards aside in order, to come back to it in the morning.

It was really interesting to have the two spreads to compare, as the verdict was quite finely balanced. The Phantomwise leant towards that my part time job pays the bills so there's no rush to look for a second job. My work life balance is great and I have everything I really need. The Illuminated basically agreed but suggested that money is rather nice to have, isn't it.

The tool that can help you on your journey card was an interesting one in both spreads. The Phantomwise gave me the Ace of Pentacles which hit me as "my potential" and I checked with the deck to confirm again (yes, ace of cups) as it came slightly out of left field. The Illuminated gave me the 5 of Wands, which I considered as suggesting competition but having almost no competitive spirit, I decided to sit with it a bit.

I think both spreads are basically suggesting that I shouldn't sell myself short and settle for a second job that I don't really want. The Phantomwise counsels me to be patient and enjoy my current freedom, while the Illuminated encourages me to strive for something worthwhile.

Interestingly both asked me to consider how negatively I'd feel if I had to leave this current job. Perhaps I should appreciate it more.

I've done a spread using the Apokalypsis deck and posted it on my Journal thread. It is a very lovely deck with interesting images while staying broadly within the standard RWS themes.

Very intriguing spread - thank you for sharing it here. I have that book and may just need to try it soon.

Day 2 Get to know my deck Spread by Mary K. Greer.

What do I most need to be aware of today:

1. An area of focus, general atmosphere or the overall energy at play

Ace of Cups

Continuing with the shift of energy we are having astrologically, what I need to be aware of is the gift of a new approach on how I support my emotional body.

2. This is the part of myself that is most active and of which I need to be most aware.

Queen of Pentacles

My experience and ability to bring life from beginning to fruition successfully for the sake of the whole is natural for me, often to the detriment of my own needs or growth.

3. This is the situation that the part of myself (Court Card above) is concerned with today.

Nine of Pentacles

Being sure to take care of myself and putting my needs first will allow me to be my best self. When I am my best self, I can serve others from a solid foundation.

4. This shows why I need to be aware.

The Devil

As a born-into-it natural nurturer, I have been conditioned to believe putting everyone else before myself is my identity. My upbringing, my religious experience, my education, my government, my community, feeds this messaging. Ultimately, although I am aware and healing from this indoctrination, every engagement I have with others is a temptation to put their needs before my own. It is like a drug that has power over me. It takes over all my sensibilities and before I can blink an eye, I am sucked right into committing to taking care of someone else at the cost of my own interests.

Today there is a lot of yellow, but the spread is also revealing red and two cards have a solid seating of a rock foundation. I feel the message for me today is to stay grounded in my personal emotional body for myself as the temptations will be strong today to take care of others. Just because I can doesn’t mean I have to. Today’s gift is nurturing myself first which will help me have a stronger foundation to work from. For me to be aware when I am about to put others before me and make a choice that supports me long term.

Numerology is 25 = 7 = The Chariot. This was in yesterday’s reading and continues to confirm what I am navigating through is Divinely guided, helping me to get the balance I need for a smoother ride.

A little apology to the Phantomwise Tarot for doubting her last night.

Was sceptical about receiving the 10 of wands for today's work day when I knew it was going to be a quiet day. Delivery guy just showed up with 10, long, heavy rolls of fabric in 5x 30 kilo packages for me to hulk back to the stockroom 😅.

She pulled a lenormand literal one on me! That's it, we're friends for life now.
