Doktor_Zeus Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 I mostly use the original 'Game of Hope', because it was cheap and I don't have to worry about damaging the cards. A bit worried that it might be a knock-off, but at least the images are definitely in the public domain! I don't think it's very user-friendly though because the images are rather primitive (due to their age) and some are not instantly recognisable - for example, it's easy to confuse the Garden with the House as both have buildings in them. Nice to have for historic reasons though. If I want something pretty, I use the Gilded Reverie deck. I like its extra significator cards for LGBTQ+ readings, but I'm not a big fan of the other extra cards in the deck. I also like the Maybe Lenormand, mostly for fun and lighthearted readings, but I wouldn't recommend it for absolute cartomancy beginners because it has a LOT of extra non-standard cards. I also have my own deck which I made using AI image generators, for the purposes of having something completely copyright-free that I can use to illustrate commercial readings. That's subjective though; I find it easy to use because I made it. For books, I mostly use Caitlìn Matthews' "Complete Lenormand Oracle Handbook", but that might be a bit heavy-going for total beginners. Lisa Young-Sutton's "Petit Lenormand Oracle: a Comprehensive Manual for the 21st Century Card Reader" is more accessible and a great starting point, but not as long or in-depth.
gregory Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Has nobody suggested Boroveshengra ? Why on EARTH not - best book out there.
akiva Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Andy B also has a really good website which supplements the book well. Though it's often down/relocated, it seems to of stayed up for a while this time! 😊
