When I was first learning tarot, I became addicted to reading. They became my crutch for my anxieties and it was really unhealthy! These days I draw cards in a minimal way for myself. I do readings for others each month but I turn to them when I need them. I probably don't use them enough on myself but I much prefer my usage now. It's a few times a month 🙂

I definitely wen through "tarot obsession". Oddly not at first. At first I was quite happy to just read and study a lot. But then after I thought I knew something. Aw jeez. It took me a while to see that I didn't know as much as I thought ... and I had gotten myself obsessed. Boys, of course. I was boy crazy when younger.

🤣 Always the reading over boys, the same! 🥰

I tell my students to read on fictional topics, politics, celebrities, TV shows or similar.

That is brilliant! I draw one card each morning as a 'what does today contain' sort of thing, and then often want to try a spread because the card interactions are so interesting, but I don't like to repeat questions. Doing a read on a fictional topic would let me dive in and explore so more. Thank you!

At the moment I'm reading daily, laying two cards in the morning to outline what I can expect over the course of the day. I'm doing this more as a learning exercise though, and I think this intention comes through as I've been getting some really interesting results that have taught me an awful lot. Since February I've only had one reading that has left me a little puzzled (it involved the High Priestess and the Moon so I do wonder if there were things happening in the 'background' that day that wouldn't reveal themselves until another time), otherwise every single reading has become clear at the end of the day. And what I've found fascinating is just how varied the meanings have been, in terms of being applicable to my mental workings, my emotional workings, the actions of others, representations of others, a vibe for the day, a single event that happened over the course of minutes, big life 'stuff' and every day, mundane stuff... It's amazing. I think over the years as I start to get more experienced, the daily readings will stop, or perhaps change format in some way. But for now pulling cards daily is serving me really well.

When I went to comment in this thread, I was gonna say I usually only pull cards when i'm having a hard time and need guidance, And now looking at some of these posts in here, I'm seeing how much more connection with intuition y'all are experiencing and it's really inspiring me

I do a 3 card reading every morning/ noon or thereabouts.

1 card of the day

2 something to watch out for

3 an advice given

I switch out decks every week to get a fresh/ different perspective through the images.

But I also usually have 1 deck out for along term in dept study over several months. this is usually a deck new to me.

If I read for clients, they have a choice of decks.

You're most welcome. I love that fictional topics can help focus on love, or money, or whatever topic you want to practice };>

What a brilliant approach! Thank you for sharing it, I will try doing that. The thing is, I mostly don't have any questions about myself to ask the cards, but I need to learn anyway, and where do I get the material? Lovely, I will ask the cards if George Martin will ever finish those books!

That's the spirit!

I personally like to make imaginary people with imaginary problems ... but I'm a frustrated fiction writer deep down inside so this comes easily to me };>

Here is my divination routine:

Daily card draw (usually 2 cards for tarot, or 1 if I’m using oracle that day) for the day ahead. If I miss this reading for whatever reason, I like doing a reflection reading on the day that has passed, but not always. I like having one or two days off from tarot where I don’t want to know how my day tomorrow will go. So that’s roughly 5 dailies per week. Sometimes I will ask a specific question instead of energy of the day. Such as how will my exam go tomorrow? If I get a negative card, well that tells me all I need to know about that day’s energy too 😉

Weekly card draw for the week ahead using Tea Leaf Oracle. Sometimes I might use an oracle for healing advice on top of that OR I might read for a specific question. For example, currently I’m looking for housing, so I did a small reading on how will my housing search go this upcoming week. So that’s around 2 pulls per week.

Monthly reading circles. This month I participated in 3, last month in 2. I want to participate in at least 2 circles every month. So that’s 2 extra readings per month on top of what I already do.

Yearly draw for the next 12 months just for fun! I take these with a grain of salt because life is constantly changing.

I do shadow work once in a while, maybe once a month, could be less than that. Used to do some snooping about others’ feelings every couple of months, but I don’t do that anymore. The rest of the readings that I do fall into one of the categories above, sometimes there is an exception but recently I haven’t been called to do any more readings than I already do. If something is ages away, then I feel like there’s too many variables to make it an accurate reading. I suspect when life gets harder and I’ll have more choices to make (such as whether to move, get a new job, etc) then I’ll be doing a few more readings.

So in total, I would say around 7 readings per week, not including the circles? Now that I think of it, that’s a lot. But I feel more connected to my cards than ever, and tarot is my favourite hobby ❤️
