What are your favorite Tarot apps, or at least the ones that you always use? What did you like about it, and how was it?

Mine would have to be The Classic 1910 Tarot app released by Fools' Dog. It's the one that I usually access in my phablet when I have a question and I'm far from my decks or when I just want a quick reading without shuffling my physical decks. The cards that I draw from it are usually accurate, and the images of the RWS are great. You'd love looking at them in their full glory on a large gadget.

It also has the full range of reading spreads available in most Fools' Dog offerings - which is a lot. It has two companion ebooks that may be read in the app itself: Waite's Pictorial Key to the Tarot and another one whose name escapes me for the moment.

I have 3 or 4 of Fools Dog apps, I expected them to be a more accessible manner of using cards when I travel.

I didn't and haven't even opened them for maybe a year. I did like though the large images

My favourite/most used is The Tarot of The Holy Light (Fools Dog...) for studying card meanings or fooling about with a daily draw.

Then I have Ellis deck

Uni Tarot which I like for the imagery because it has 7 old decks on it - means I have 7 decks to hand without lugging them about.

And CBD Marseille for card meanings.

Then I have Dondorf Lenormand because that's what I could find and Galaxy Runes Pro.

I chucked everything else off - because my mobile model is old and grumbles that's it's overloaded a lot these days.

Bohemian Gothic and Bohemian Cats have great apps. Ben Dov's app is very good. So is Ciro's Kipper.

I have Bonefire and Holy Light in app form, too, but TBH I don't use them much.

I need a good Thoth app. All the ones I've tried have been crap.  :(

Golden Thread! It's a bit minimalistic so it's not great for intuitive readings but it has some interesting spreads and it gives mostly accurate readings

I've heard that if one has the Bohemian Gothic, the app would also be necessary since it has the complete companion book. An actual physical copy would cost an arm and a leg so at its price it's really quite a bargain.

I also have the Holy Light app, so with Tanga that makes three of us. :) The text there is really comprehensive, so if I do get the deck, I guess I can skip the physical companion book? It only has discursive text on each of the cards tho - it didn't include all the other sections of the book so if I want to really delve into Payne-Towler's system I may still have to get the companion tome.

I have the Ciro Kipper now, and I'm so going to get the app just to view the animation sequence for each card. :P

And yeah I love the Thoth to bits, so I noticed a sad lack of good Thoth Tarot apps. It's a shame, really.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Golden Thread app! Its art does not compel me tho, but since I have a passion for metallic decks, that might change in the future.

I have several Fool’s Dog apps but my fav is the Bonefire.  The Fool’s Dog overall reading app in general is very good, I choose the Bonefire because I like the strong images so much.

I guess it depends how far down the Payne-Towler rabbit hole you want to go. The app has sufficient information to use the cards. But the book is FAT.

I don't claim to have a full grasp of her ideas even after reading it. It's kind of an ongoing study. So - book if you want a big bottomless ongoing study. App if you just want to use the cards.

The Kipper app is quite good, but it's a regular app - daily cards, spreads, meanings. For the animation sequences, you'll need one called Aurasma.

No worries, that one's free.  :)

It really is! Every Thoth app I've tried has been s***.

I wish Fool's Dog would collaborate with that Corax guy and put a decent one out there. A lot of us love the Thoth.

I better check out Aurasma then. And thanks for the tips! :)

I want to add my voice to the chorus of acclaim for the Golden Thread Tarot app. The draws that I get there are so spot on.

My fave app is Ostara. It is the one I use the most and I don't have the physical deck. Also chiming in on Holy light mainly for the very good book.

Urban tarot is a nice one too.

I haven't checked to see what new things they have though, i might be able to squeeze in one more, maybe... Or i try to get a pad and devote it to only tarot!

Sorry that these are not in any order.

I also have the beautiful Druidcraft Oracle and a few Fools Dog Lenormands.

Fools Dog do the best apps for Apple IOS.  I've tried a few others but they are not of the same quality.

The beauty of the apps is that you get good quality graphics and the entire book.

It's easy to upload readings to an online journal.  I use Evernote for this and a whole range of personal records.

Apps are good to read with and they are so portable and accessible.

I have seven Tarot apps in my smartphone, but whew MollyCat, your collection is quite something.

A bit of an old thread I know but, I've just discovered all the extra Fools Dog apps that weren't there last time I looked! Just goes to show how long it's been lol

I now have

Ostara - I've been debating on getting the real one for a while and thought "why not give it a test run with the app!"

Boadicea's Tarot of Earthly Delights - not my normal style but it caught my eye and I thought I'd give it a go

Ellis decK - all those pretty colours called my name and some of the cards looked really interesting. How had I not seen this one before???

I've also got Galaxy Tarot which I use for my daily draw. It has a great little widget you can put on to display it, and is a pretty good RWS app that give you info about some of the symbols and numbers etc

I like galaxy tarot for my phone and orphallese for my computer.

I think they're good options when I don't have a deck close to me.

For what it's worth, I've been told that Fool's Dog has changed hands recently, and is under new management.   The news is they intend to continue on offering their apps as before, and to expand on their products going forward.

Posted

That makes sense @InternationalIcon it feels like development and updates have stalled for a while with the Fool's Dog apps.

I am not sure what has happened with the Galaxy Tone apps, they made great Android apps and their Galaxy Tarot app which was RWS. At one stage they made various licensed apps for decks including a great Wild Unknown one but the artist asked for it to be withdrawn after a year. Unless you bought any of the pro versions or previously downloaded their apps to an Android device, they all seem to have gone from being able to be found or for any new updates 😞 . As well as deck apps they had a crystals and rune app at one stage. Anyway it looks like you can't download any of their stuff anymore as a new user which is sad. They were well made stuff! I have one of the creators of the brand on instagram so will ask her what is going on sometime. I loved those apps!

If you have downloaded or bought their apps before it will stay in your "not installed" folder of Google Play if you don't have it on a device. If you upgrade to a device with a much bigger screen it's possible it won't allow you to install (they have size of device restrictions) and also if they upgrade Android in future, it's possible with a lack of development they will fail to work but if you have one still going (like me!) you are in luck! Well for now.

I've been enjoying the Labarynthos app, you can choose between using multiple decks (including Golden Thread) and it has little lessons and quizzes you can take. As a beginner it's been helpful to have a full tarot reference as well as a virtual deck all in one app.

Posted

The Galaxy Tarot app is my go-to for quick RWS reference.

@Runa I downloaded the Labyrinthos app a while ago but not sorted it out to get it to work. I think it's free but I think you have to register for an account with them with email address to use? It won't show me anything until I am logged on. Will give it a better go 🙂

@Wyrdkiss it's still my fave tarot app!

Posted

Yeah, I normally hate when something requires me to "sign up" and avoid apps that want my email but since I enjoyed the Labarynthos website I gave the app a try anyway!
