Paper/Cardstock for Making Cards

Here’s what a stack of my homemade cards look like (around 40 cards). I have yet to erase the graphite lines around the edges after cutting them. Just wanted to give you an idea of what they’re like. They definitely add volume to a deck, which I like 😊

Thank you for sharing, @Raggydoll. This looks like a beautiful project in the making.

Thank you, friend! I’m currently tinkering with some ideas for a deck, and I think it’s really nice to test out different designs on handmade cards. I am a very tactile person who likes traditional art, so this is right up my alley!

You and your art are very inspiring, @Raggydoll. I was creative once or twice and made my own paper. I have an oracle deck I started in an art class I took pre-pandemic. Maybe it is time to finish that up. Happy creating!

That sounds like a great project! I find that the full moon often urges me to get creative. Maybe it will for you too 😊

Someone just told me that there are brands of watercolor paper that are printer compatible. I believe they are called Watercolor inkjet paper or Watercolor printer paper. I have obviously not tried it myself but wanted to share the info here since I know this could potentially solve the issues with printing the card outlines directly onto paper and then coloring by hand. I don’t know how sturdy it will be but might be worth looking into.

So I got some good news (which unfortunately doesn't spill over to others here.)

I work at a technical college. I was asking the program director of our Design & Media Production Technology program about a good paper for making cards, and he said that he has good card stock on hand and equipment to print on both sides and cut to size. He said he has new equipment for this that he really wants to test out, and tarot cards would be perfect. So anytime I want, he will print cards for me.

That means I can do my coloring of the CBD line art project as soon as I find a pattern for the back to give him.

I see lots of options for card back patterns online... all so far cost something. Not a lot, not a problem, but something.

Does anyone have a go-to source for such images?

This is indeed good news.

And: It does spill over.

At least for those who do have a Technical College/University, or perhaps some similar kind of institution in the field of arts (painting etc.) nearby.

From the top of my dome, I can think of a whopping seven places where one could try asking!

For now we know that there might be

a) the necessary equipment, including cardstock, inside of a college/university/faculty of kinds

b) someone open-minded/inclined enough to have a go at printing a pack

For information: Ben-Dov's deck is available for free in pdf and jpeg format on his website (I know, he went on, but the site is still kept running).

Photoshop, Paint3D, Gimp, whathaveyou should do the job of clearing the colours out just fine.

ETA: Oh. Yeah. It was the backs. I see.

😎

Thanks. Just what I'm looking for.

Yes, the Ben-Dove JPGs were the start of this whole idea. And you don't have to clear the colors: he has a zip file of just the line art (along with high- and low-rez color versions).

That's true... about the other technical colleges.

I don't know if they call it the same thing at other schools, but in our system it's called "live work": doing services/work for the public, usually at a very low place. You could check the technical colleges and see with ones have programs in design, media, printing & graphics, etc., and as if they do live work. (They probably do.)

They do.

They really do.

Tarotists of the world, the gateway to proper decks printed on cardstock is open.

And budget-friendly, to top it of.
