fire cat pickles Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 (edited) A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, some use two. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck. No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; be respectful of one other. Please join us! Please post with your chosen deck for the week. Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you. Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here. Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form. Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in. Bodhiseed Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 I'm in with the Deirdre of Sorrows Tarot paired with the Victorian Flower Oracle. Thanks FC! ❤️
Rachelcat Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Good morning DoW crew! I’m back to using oracle cards for spread positions this week, with the Sacred Symbols for Divination and Meditation Oracle Deck (a mouthful there!) and Tarochino Mitelli Bologna 1660 CA (a Lo Scarabeo Anima Antiqua historical repro). Before my oracle-as-spread-deck obsession, I wouldn’t have been interested in a deck like the Sacred Symbols because it would have been a little too plain and simple. But now it makes perfect sense! (Like the Swatches of Chakra deck, just color and keywords. But it worked!) Plus I like reading up on symbols I haven’t run into before or may have seen but not immediately learned about. I haven’t used a tarochino for a deck of the week before because I don’t know if it makes sense to read with a deck with no 2s-5s. Would too many ideas be missing? I guess I could read with just the majors, or majors and courts and aces. But I think I’ll just go with what’s there and see what happens. Another issue with the Mitelli is that I THINK I should like neoclassical, clean-lined, artistic historical repros (like the Mitelli and the Tarocco Neoclassico), but in use, they feel cold. What I REALLY like are messy, quirky, rough and ready historical repros (like my beloved Budapest and the Tarot de Paris). Oh, and the majors are a bit different than usual, as you’ll see. Let’s start with interviews! Most important characteristic: Lucky I like lucky! Also, many of the symbols/cards are down-to-earth and easy to recognize and understand. Strength: Shadow It’s an oracle that has negative as well as positive cards and meanings. I’m not a big Jung/archetype fan. The one concept that works for me is the shadow. Something that is very like me but all my negative traits and things I don’t like about myself. Powerful for card readings. Weakness: Good fortune It’s not good for reading about finances? But see Affluence below. . . .? What can deck teach me? Full moon Everything! It can teach me about fulfillment and having it all. How can I learn it? Affluence I’m thinking physical wellbeing more than finances here. I can learn about having everything I need by focusing on physical wellbeing. Outcome of our work together: Trust Booklet says this image is based on the Nothing in the movie the Neverending Story. So it’s about courageously going into a situation without all the information? It will help me trust my intuition and readings more. Most important characteristic: Page of Staves The deck is a challenge and knows it’s a challenge but wants to be wrestled with! Strength: VIII Coins Quite a variety of heads on the coins! The concept and physical presentation are very good. Weakness: VII Staves It’s kind of a struggle to read with this deck. Even if I enjoy a struggle! What can deck teach me? Knight of Staves I can make real progress by putting energy into it. How can I learn it? VII Cups And by just enjoying it and how it feels! Outcome of our work together: Chariot This is Venus in her chariot drawn by doves. On a cloud. The only major in the reading. I will end up enjoying the deck (Venus), and it will take me forward in my tarot studies. I won’t be afraid to use abbreviated decks anymore! Looks like a good start!
Bodhiseed Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 This week I'll be using the Deirdre of the Sorrows Tarot, a self-published set created by Deirdre O'Donoghue and illustrated by Wayne McGuire. Along with it, I'll be drawing from the Victorian Flower Oracle, created by Alex Ukolov, Karen Mahony and Sheila Hamilton; it was published by Magic Realist Press. Today's draws are the Two of Coins and Mimosa: Judging by his attire, this guy's intention was to keep a sense of humor about his extra load. But from the look on his face, he appears perturbed and resentful. He thought he could take some classes that his boss suggested and do some repairs on the house for his wife. But energy and time spend like money - there's only so much each person has. Mimosa's leaflets fold inward in response to touch, giving her the keyword sensitivity. Some folks have a hard time saying 'no,' feeling as if they must constantly be in another's good graces. But no one's opinion should define our worth, and boundaries are beneficial to our well-being. As Anna Taylor said, "You teach people how to treat you by deciding what you will and won’t accept."
Rachelcat Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Hi! I like seeing the Victorian Flower Oracle in use! Here is my Sunday reading. A little too close to home, but that's what readings are for, right?
Nemia Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I work with the John Bauer Tarot this week. I have no idea whether I'll get more than this good old planetary week reading under my belt... too busy this week.

I just can't wrap my head around how to read with the missing cards. @Rachelcat How do you do it? Edited March 13, 2023 by Misterei

From the readings I just did, I think my advice is to be really up on reading court cards! I seem to be having trouble differentiating kings and queens, but I'm working on it!

Interesting approach. I'm so numerology oriented ... missing numbers make me freak out.
Guest Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 I started posting this week's draws with the Magickal Botanical Oracle here:

AFAIK Rinascimento released a book about it that includes detailed divinatory meanings.
