A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, some use two. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in

Participants:

  1. fire cat pickles: Williams Minchiate
  2. Bodhiseed: Daniloff Tarot paired with a set of Kuan Yin Sticks

It's going to be another week with the WIlliams for me, mostly because the next deck for me will be the  Fantastic Menagerie which will also be at least a few weeks anyway.

@Bodhiseed looking forward to see pix of your spread with Daniloff. I have his Persian themed deck ... but didn't buy the original. I also have 2 of his le normands.

This week I'll be using the Daniloff Tarot, created and self-published by Alexander Daniloff. I'll also be using a set of Kuan Yin Sticks with the corresponding verses from Stephen Karcher's book The Kuan Yin Oracle. Today's draws are the Moon and 'Candlelight and Shadows' (verse 97):

The literal translation for the French phrase “Entre Chien et Loup” is Between Dog and Wolf.  A French linguist would describe this as that time of day when the light is such that is becomes difficult to distinguish between a dog and a wolf, between friend and foe, between known and unknown.

The Moon represents those times when we are pulled like ocean waves - by our emotions, memories and subconscious. Just as high tide is not the best time for swimming, neither are these 'moon times' the sanest moments for making decisions or thinking in absolutes. The mind's illusions will eventually ebb if we don't add chum to the waters. The 97th verse for the Kuan Yin oracle reads:

The candlelight throws shadows
that dance on the wind,
like flowers
scattered on green fields.

Rather than focusing on flickering shadows, we might take the advice of Eckhart Tolle: "Rather than being your thoughts and emotions, be the awareness behind them."

Hi!  I have the Karcher Kuan Yin sticks but never used them.  Great to see them in action!

For me this week will be the Taro as Colour by Ithell Colquhoun.  See the attached pdf of my tarot society presentation all about the deck.

So we’re going to see if I can actually read with a very abstract deck.  With the help of the notes.

Interview time!

What is your most important characteristic?  Chariot, Air (Water)

The deck goes where no deck has gone before!

What is your strength?  Ace of Cups, Water

It’s very good for intuitive reading.

What is your weakness?  Princess of Swords, Earth of Air

But not for someone trying to learn.  Or relate it to the real world.

What can you teach me?  Seven of Cups, Fire of Water

(Fours are related to kings.)

I can learn how to balance fire and water, action and emotion, and what is real success and what is illusory success.  The splash of red and orange is small compared to the vast area of water around it.  Feelings may override action.

How can I learn it?  Queen of Disks, Water of Earth

By grounding my emotions before I decide to act.  This looks like a very introspective card.  The water is slowly soaking into the earth.  Catch it before it turns into mud.

What is the outcome of our work together?  Four of Disks, Fire of Earth

Ok, earthly power works with fire of earth!

The red here is much larger, and there’s quite a lot of purple combination, but the lines are distinct.  So I will figure out the nuts and bolts of reading with the deck, but it will take some effort!
