Misterei Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Do you mean reading for yourself? Or for another person / client? When reading for myself, I sit quietly for a time to absorb the spread. I often take a picture of the cards. Sometimes I thank the cards and/or helpful spirits. For clients, it's timed ... so we start winding-down and concluding about 5 minutes prior to make sure closure is there. For friends / untimed ... there's usually an organic process where the question has been answered and the read feels complete. I seldom to never re-order the deck. This is something I reserve for if the deck feels "tired" or there is a practical reason to do it (i.e. for teaching) I often take a picture or the Sitter takes a picture. I do put the cards away carefully with a feeling of reverence and a moment of silence.

If you're reading for yourself, the reading would end when you've answered your original question. I never re-order my deck but if I am using reversals, I do put them upright, I don't leave reversals in my decks. It's important to keep focused on your question to the deck. If you're reading for someone else, after you've explained the individual cards and their positions, summarize the reading and ask them if they have any additional questions. If not, the reading has ended.
Grizabella Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 I don't re-order my decks and I don't use reversals but if a card does show up reversed by some means, I do read it reversed and then put it back upright when the reading is over. The way I end a reading for someone else is that I just ask if there are any other questions. If there are, then we address those. Once it's really over, then I gather the cards back together and to provide a fresh slate for the next reading, I deal the cards out into 4 or 5 piles to truly randomize the deck for a new reading. I'm a riffle shuffler but that doesn't really randomize the deck well enough, in my opinion, so I do the dealing into piles and then when I read again, I riffle a few times. It just feels like the right way to do it.
Andrea_Luna Posted May 28, 2023 Author Posted May 28, 2023 Thanks for all the answers. Yes I meant reading for myself.. is just that it feels weird if I just put the deck back on its box and get up and leave the room lol I do feel right to stay a minute taking all in and then put the deck away. I'm curious now.. why don't you ppl re-order the deck when reading for yourself? so it keeps your energy?? (I'm still a beginner)

(I'm still a beginner) It takes a lot of time. But also, i want a certain random factor in my reading decks. If a deck has been re-ordered ... then I have to spend a LOT of time shuffling to randomize it. Clients don't appreciate shuffling for 10 minutes whilst they're on the clock. Chacun a son gout. Some people like to reorder their decks after every reading ... but if you're reading professionally ... you probably won't have time to do this.
DanielJUK Posted May 29, 2023 Posted May 29, 2023 You could end the reading with flair and a flounce, pull the reading cloth out from under the cards, like people do with a table cloth and all the glasses and tea cups on the table! 😉🤣 I don't really do any formal ending, maybe I should. My readings don't tend to end in an easy immediate way anyway. I lay out the reading and do it and then I take a photo of the cards. I put it all back but then my readings take days, so I use my photo and notes I make during the reading. 19 hours ago, Andrea_Luna said: Thanks for all the answers. (I'm still a beginner) Learning to read is about finding your own methods and rituals that work for you. It's fine to experiment to see what works and what doesn't. Some members here put all the cards in order and back in the deck. Their method is very strict, they shuffle the cards and will reverse a certain number of times, so their shuffling is very controlled. They always want to start with the deck upright and in order. For me, I keep all my decks randomly shuffled and shuffle each time. I put the cards from a reading randomly back in the deck, in different places. I largely never put decks back in order. Some people say that if your deck is giving bad readings, you should reorder the deck to "reset" it. So it's fine whatever you want to do and what works for you

There is no need to keep the cards reordered because you will shuffle anyway. If the deck is in order and you don't shuffle your cards well, you might find cards are dealt in order, (a few cards one right after the other). When I see this in people's spreads, I see a deck that was possibly not shuffled very well. If you are unsure of your shuffling, practice! If you can't shuffle at all, you can place your cards in 5 rows (or any number of rows you want), and just keep laying a card out in each row, then put them together, that will shuffle the deck also. It's like Daniel said, you will find what works for you!
Andrea_Luna Posted May 31, 2023 Author Posted May 31, 2023 all your inputs are helping me a great deal so thanks i read them all 🙂 "I put it all back but then my readings take days, so I use my photo and notes I make during the reading." this is happening to me rn.. i did a reading and the card combination is taking me some time to understand what could possibly mean lol i don't like to think i did it ''wrong'' is just that's taking me some time to 'unlock' the meaning hehe
gregory Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 It often takes time. I've been known to take a couple of WEEKS to make sure it all became clear.
Mi-Shell Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 I do a 3 card reading every morning - or thereabouts. The cards stay on my reading table through the day, so I can have a quick look at them again late in the evening and reflect on their relation to the events of the day. Next morning I put these cards back into the deck, shuffle and draw new cards. The deck to me is a visual working tool among many I other tools I use in my work ( - like my jewelry making pliers - I always have to put them in their place, so I can find them again on short notice ) When I read for clients there is the time factor and yes, they have to take a picture so they can remember the reading. Then I re-shuffle the cards. With repeat clients I put a pic of the reading in their file. Seeing 4-5 readings taken over an extended period of time and compare and contrast them may well be another sitting we have....
Silk Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 No, I have no special ritual or practice around the end of a reading. Sometimes I know it's time to end it because the deck starts spitting out cards that seem like they are not in answer to the question... then I figure either it's time to end it or to change the question I'm asking if it seems like something else is begging to be addressed (which does happen, but not often.) I don't mind leaving reversals in the deck but I will reshuffle before a new session. I will put them all upright only if my intuition indicates.
thetarotlass Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 During a mediumship reading, I literally just talk/channel until the spirit has communicated everything they wished, and I no longer feel their presence. I just say a prayer, ask for protection, things like this, to then conclude the reading. Spirits really do have no time to waste, because they are just fine where they are, no pain, etc. They say what is needed for their living loved one(s) to find peace, and are then on their way, because the time we have here on Earth is so precious. It is borrowed. Our loved ones know we miss them, but always assure that they are safe in the afterlife, and insist that we, the living, must continue onward and live out our lives to the fullest. We’re each born with a special and divine purpose, so they will really insist and put emphasis on moving forward, because “we will meet again one day.” Sometimes, spirits will “piggyback,” so I might be in the middle of channeling one spirit, when another hops on the conference call 😄 Still, I keep talking/channeling until the spirit(s) is content. There have been times when a person’s relative will pay me an additional visit, because they forgot something, and need me relay it. They communicate much like the living, really, haha. For general Tarot reads, I go until I get a feeling that the card I’ve just put down is “it.” It summarizes the whole vibe and message of the reading, so I then call it. 💜
Guest Posted June 12, 2023 Posted June 12, 2023 I say a grateful prayer for the knowledge and guidance I was given and yeah, I sometimes reorder my cards too.
RickInBakersfield Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 I do a brief "Sum-up" of everything I told them, the highlights of each cards meaning and if they are working with a question I will go ahead and re-answer that question. I will also tell them what to look out for in terms of warning cards and just anything other that came up in the reading that I feel is important to them.
