Is it pointing to a relationship that's filled with conflicts, disagreements, arguments and tension. That the two people are perhaps too different to have a harmonious relationship. Or could it be saying there could be competition - other potential partners competing for this person's attention. It doesn't seem a very encouraging card! Any input appreciated.

Not seeing eye to eye on things and a lack of cohesion within the relationship. It's one of those cards in the deck that's very on the nose, in the sense it reads how it looks. There are people in conflict on the card, so it very much represents conflict. There could also be grounds for potential domestic abuse in certain contexts, though I wouldn't feel comfortable reading that in a single card. One interesting caveat is the fact that Waite also gives the meaning "struggle of the search after riches and fortune. In this sense it connects with the battle of life". Which is a hint to Ettiella's meanings of gold, fortune and prosperity for this card. This gives the feeling of trying really hard to keep the relationship together because they view it in an idealistic way (battling for the relationships riches). Whether it's a dysfunctional relationship and its all in vain. Or that they're struggling because of outside factors and they're trying hard to stay together because they truly love each other, would largely depend on the cards surrounding this one. It could also be that it's a difficult relationship and they're in it only for the money (the struggle for riches). Hope this gives you some ideas to go off of 😊

That these comrades are practicing, supporting the person to improve and get better at whatever the skill or situation is before them. Depending on the question and the surrounding cards, of course, I think this could indicate that this relationship will challenge you to be or discover your best self, or I suppose it could be that you will do that for them. On a personal note, I’d want to be sure that this is the kind of relationship you are seeking i.e. it feels like there may be some pushy energy involved. As always, context is everything.

DanielJUK Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Ironically I think this is a good card for someone going into dating, it's taking action by going into the dating game, maybe using websites, apps or socialising and meeting plenty of new people. Many potential choices could come of it. For a potential relationship, it's not the easiest card. Like what @akiva said about the negatives, arguing, even abusive. They might not be on the same page. Also the competition of partners, what can one person offer over the other options? But thinking of the positives of this card.... - this could be a couple with passion, they work well challenging each other, maybe their beliefs or in discussions. They could be competitive with each other, they run or do triathlons and challenge each other's times, something like that. The key here is that they have some deep connection but it works well challenging each other, this is a healthy and positive manifestation of this, it's quite an energetic card. - there are ways this energy can work, like it might work out well for a couple with this potential to give each other a lot of space. They might have a good future together but have to have their own hobbies and do their own independent things each week. One might like their Martial Arts and the other like their tarot, they go away and do their own things. Giving each other space is very healthy. Doing some things together and doing your own thing works in many relationships. It's interesting I think in the RWS 5 of Wands that the guys all seem alike, same size (their builds), same clothing styles, same weapons, compared to the RWS 5 of Swords where some people have victory (or did they really win over the others? 😉 ). There is a compatibility or equality there perhaps. I see this card coming up sometimes where one partner has something in their lives that takes up all their time, like they are or become famous or a sports person or spend a lot of time gaming or watching TV, the other partner feels ignored. They are in competition for attention in the other's life. This can be a problem or a just a fact of the situation but it's a difficulty in the relationship. If one partner is say an author who suddenly finds great fame, the other partner may feel squeezed out but that is different from one half constantly ignoring the other and this can end it. The 5 cards are all a chaotic, difficult energy which brings change and instability, after some stability of the 4 before. This card is a relationship problem where a solution to deal with it must be found for a long-term future together. Ultimately I think the way you deal with this energy in a relationship is to find your own things you love and want to put time in and to find your own space and time away from each other. You can't always be dependent on each other with this card, it can work out but is an obstacle where a solution needs to be found 🙂 .

Thank you. @DanielJUK thank you for such an in depth analysis of the card. You have given much to consider here. I don't like to see any of the 5s as relationship potential because as you say 5s can be so chaotic. Yes, I think for a long term relationship to work a solution must be found - this is good advice.
