A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

Thank you Fire cat!

This week I'll be using the Margarete Petersen Tarot, created by M. Petersen and published by Königs Furt. The oracle I'll be using is the Elemental Dice. Today's card and dice roll are the Moon and Lightning (Air + Fire):

We habitually jump to thoughts and feelings about what is being perceived. These thoughts and feelings, rooted in past experiences and conditioning, then influence the mood of our mind.
—Ruth King

The woman on the left pillar is finally seeing that her free will is not very free at all. The unconscious is a mental file cabinet that immediately sends to the conscious mind any file remotely relevant to our current situation, yanking our chain according to past encounters. So much of what we think and feel is tied to our past and greatly influences how we respond. Yet Lightning, a massive electrostatic discharge from cloud to ground, suggests we find a way to pause and looks with discernment at what the mind tells us. I've found two tools that are helpful in this regard: a fearless inventory of my life and meditation. A inventory helps me become aware of patterns that have become habitual but are unskillful or harmful; awareness can aid in change. Meditation allows me to see just what is swirling around in my head so that I don't unconsciously react to it.

Before fixing what you're looking at, check what you're looking through.

Hi, everybody!  Universal Fantasy and Margarette Petersen, two I had and passed along.  I'll be checking them out this week!

For me, in honor of Halloween, this week will be Tarot of the Vampires, a newish Llewellyn deck.  I had to leaf through the book for this one because I’m trying let go of the unsettling new Interview with the Vampire series.  And the deck has recurring characters, so I wanted to make sure I caught all those.

When shopping, I was put off at first because the cover image is of the Queen of Swords in Victorian dress.  I’m not really into Victorian stuff.  But the deck is actually in a contemporary setting, and I like that much better.

The backs pick up the very taroty symbols of rose and lily, which in this context represent the blood and passion of vampires and the innocence of mortals.

For fun, here are other vampire decks I own:  Gothic Tarot of Vampires, a Lo Scarabeo graphic novel-style deck, which, like this one, is in a contemporary setting; and Robert Place’s Vampire Tarot, based on specific literary and cinematic vampires, with his amazing artwork.  I’ve also pulled out a few of my more Halloweeny oracles to probably use as spread cards with this deck.  We’ll see!  And I’ll be using my Spirit Tarot Cards by Spirit Halloween, which has a monster or being for each card, for readings at my Halloween party at work.

Wash, shuffle, and interview with the vampires!

What is your most important characteristic?  Five of Pentacles

It shows loss and fear very well.  And change and confusion.  I’m pretty sure I’d freak out if I was turning into a vampire and didn’t know what was happening!

What is your strength?  Nine of Pentacles

Your weakness?  Three of Cups

It portrays individual enjoyment and satisfaction more that relationship or group enjoyment.

What’s the Maltese falcon doing here?  Sought-after treasure that she already has.  Plus the bust:  She may not be able to see herself in the mirror, but some kind sculptor has taken care of that for her.

Vampires’ enjoyment is still terror to mortals!

What can I learn from you?  Ace of Cups

There is so much potential for happiness and enjoyment, even if it comes across as creepy!

How can I learn it?  Eight of Swords

Face my fears and free myself from them by using my rational mind.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  Nine of Wands

It will help me prepare to defend myself from irrational fears.  She’s using the vampires’ own staves to guard against them.

Interesting how that turned out!  I never like horror or scary stuff or blood.  But I always liked esoteric and occult things.  Tarot is definitely the gateway drug to so many things!

Yes it is! 😂 There are days when I go down a rabbit hole researching things that come up in a reading.
