A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in!

I'll be staying with the Williams Minchiate for another week. This is my first true full day off since the big test. Still decompressing!

I'm on the home stretch now with studying the Tarot du Cirque.  I've finished hanging out with all of the cards and reading the book -- except for the spread section in the back.

This week I'll be using the Tarot in de Herstelde Orde (Tarot in Restored Order), created by Rob Docters van Leeuwen and Onno Docters van Leeuwen; it was published by Servire. The second deck I'll be drawing from is the Oracle of Kabbalah, a deck and book set created by Richard Seidman and published by Thomas Dunne Books. Since the Kabbalah cards are of the letter only and rather plain, I'll be using the illuminated paintings of Victor Brindatch. Today's draws are Juno and Alef:

Intuition becomes increasingly valuable in the new information society precisely because there is so much data.
―John Naisbitt

The Tarot of Restored Order adds two cards to its deck: Juno (Intuition) and Jupiter (Truth). A temple to Juno Moneta (meaning “Juno Who Warns”) was built on Rome's Capitoline Hill in 344 BCE. According to Plutarch, the cackling of her sacred geese were said to have warned the Romans of an invasion of Gauls, allowing them to save the summit. Juno's card represents that spiritual nudge, bad feeling or intuitive flash that advises us to pay attention and take action. It helps us filter out the overwhelming amount of stimuli and focus on what's important in the moment. Symbolizing oneness or unity, Alef (Aleph) is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet and means 'master' or 'leader.' When it appears, it suggests we recall what is primary; we need to strip away the superfluous and get back to basics. Both of these cards encourage staying grounded and not getting distracted by meaningless fluff.

Hi crew!  Interesting decks again this week.  The illuminated Hebrew letters really need to be a deck!

This week for me will be Wiener Secession Tarot, Wien, 1906, a Lo Scarabeo Anima Antiqua edition.  The artist is Ditha Moser of the Wiener Succession/Wiener Werkstätte art movement, who created it as a fundraiser for an orphanage.  This is a tarock deck with French suits and double-ended majors and courts, meant to be used for game play.  Tarock means it leaves out clubs and spades 1-6 and leaves out hearts and diamonds 5-10, giving us 54 cards total.  The cards are a little taller/thinner than most at 2.25 x 4.5 inches.

I love the art style, similar to the more abstract style I’ve been gushing about lately.  (I also have Tarot Resom (Moser backwards), a majors-only tribute Ditha Moser by Ly Narciso, Paraluman Studio.)

It has 22 majors, no number-XXI, but they aren’t usual tarot majors, instead, they kind of look like toys.  The courts are various cultures:  Clubs = medieval Europe; hearts = 18th century Europe; spades = Byzantine Empire; diamonds = ancient Egypt.

The combination of non-tarot majors and missing minors is going make it a true challenge to read!  I’ll try a combination of tarot minor keywords and reading the pictures, I guess.  We’ll see!

Interview time!

Just clubs and majors.

What is your most important characteristic?  Fool

I like how all the Roman numerals are in the background checkerboard.  He holds a toy version of himself.  I’m not sure it’s a good idea to give a fool a sword!

The most important thing is to remember it IS a game deck for a game of chance.  We can just go wherever it leads.

What is your strength?  XIII

Definitely not a death card.  A couple holding hands, but what is that other woman doing under the tree?

A strength is it doesn’t have a death card!  It is easy to see but still has some mystery.

Your weakness?  Queen of Clubs

It’s full of emotional energy but doesn’t balance those two things very well.

What can you teach me?  Page of Clubs

It can teach me to just jump into the action and see where it goes.

How can I learn it?  XIX. Sun

I’m going with this as a sun card to go with the number.  A woman is outdoors with flowers and a purse and an orange cat.  Seems pretty sunny.

I can learn it by being open and honest.  And confident.  And a cat.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  7 Clubs

I will enjoy (7=Venus) the struggle of reading with the deck.

Hmm, interesting!  I’m eager to try more!
