dancing_moon Posted April 18, 2024 Posted April 18, 2024 Table - Changement Table - Change Upright: a double meaning is given for the word "table", the more obvious "piece of furniture" (hence meanings like meal, banquet, nourishment, host, hotel, abundance) and the "original" ("Egyptian"?) meaning of "table/tablet of law" (producing meanings like stability, obstinacy, painting, image, hieroglyph, catalogue). In line with that latter meaning, this card is said to confirm the prediction of the nearby cards. Reversed: unexpected change, (trans)mutation, alteration, variety, reversion, interpretation. A.E. Waite gives this card a heavy Christian slant that's notably absent in Etteilla's deck, elegantly weaving the meanings from the latter into the "house of the true heart/house of the false heart" pair, juxtaposing the joy and abundance of one, and the mutability and instability of the other.
fire cat pickles Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 (edited) This image is from the LoS version of the Etteilla. There isn't much to go intuitively like I'm used to for TdM readings. I like how many of the the Cups cards are not tied to the over-emotive meanings like GD's are, though. I also like, as you mention, that the interpretations aren't over-Christianized either. I'm noticing that the trick with the keywords is to choose ones that fit in context with the question in hand. This deck isn't going to fit well with general readings, I don't think. It will be interesting to test the deck out with some one-carders in the near future. I will probably post my readings in my journal and link them in the Chat thread here, unless you create a Journal Section here 🙂 Edited April 20, 2024 by fire cat pickles
