Anesiadora Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 This week I think I'm going to focus on the Carnival at the End of the World Tarot. It's relatively new in my collection and kinda got shuffled out for other decks I purchased around the same time. So I'm curious to see how this one works for me with consistent use.
fire cat pickles Posted April 22, 2024 Author Posted April 22, 2024 Welcome back @Anesiadora! This week I'm using Book of Thoth Etteilla. There's a Club Study Group for support with this deck. So far I'm getting quite interesting and accurate readings, but it doesn't lend itself well to general readings at all. The challenge is to come up with a question each day.
Bodhiseed Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Thank you Fire cat! This week I'll be using the Tarot of Mystical Moments, created by Catrin Welz-Stein and published by U.S. Games. Paired with it will be the Inner Eye Oracle, created by Steven Bright and published by Red Feather. Today's draws are the Ace of Swords and the Three of Hearts: Your mind is a shrieking gibbering madhouse on wheels barreling pell-mell down the hill utterly out of control and hopeless. No problem. You are not crazier than you were yesterday. It has always been this way and you just never noticed. ― Bhante Henepola Gunaratana We often assume the mind is our ally, but actually it is just a collection of knowledge, an endless fount of ideas, a holder of our memories and the keeper of our emotional patterns. For it to become a help rather than a hindrance, we must be aware of its thoughts, question what it tells us, and compare it to reality. We then must learn to steer it towards a beneficial focus and away from worrying rumination or excessive emotional impulses. The mind becomes a friend when it is trained to respond rather than reflexively react. The Three of Hearts is illustrated with a locket, signifying memories. Reminiscing about the past can be helpful in preventing us from making the same mistake over and over, or if our mood needs a little boost, by remembering a pleasurable moment. Yet there are some memories that poke our old pains and grievances and simply cause suffering. For those, we should take Shunryu Suzuki's advice: "Let thoughts come and go. Just don't serve them tea."
Rachelcat Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 (edited) Hi all! Happy to be back! I recently went through my collection list (339 decks as of this minute) and marked the ones I’ve used as decks of the week since March 16, 2020, the first day of quarantine here. Mostly left over are Lenormands and Thothy decks, so get ready to see them in coming weeks, along with my sad attempts at Lenormand reading. (I have at set of three Kickstarter decks on the way that will jump to the front of the line when they show up. Two of which are Lenormands!) Relatedly, in an effort to finish out some subcollections, this week will be the rest of my cat decks that I haven’t used as deck of the week yet, Baroque Bohemian Cats’ Tarot, second edition, Halloween Tarot in a Tin, and Cats Lenormand. Halloween Tarot is a cat deck according to me because there’s a cat on every card, the same slinky black cat. And it turns out I’ve never used it at Halloween time, so no time like the present. It’s RWSish with a Halloween tilt. Wands are Imps, cups are Ghosts, swords are Bats, and pentacles are Pumpkins. Baroque Bohemian Cats is the ur-cat deck, but I usually prefer more naturalistic cats. I call this “cats in coats.” On the other hand, these kitties are very expressive, and the art is pretty amazing. Probably everybody knows this, but: the costumes were created and photographed and then the cats were added digitally. The booklet says the only cat that actually wore a costume is the kitten in a bustier on the Sun card. Oh, and many of the settings are in Prague (the Bohemian part). I got the Hermit bag because he looks like my long gone beloved Mouchoir. Cats Lenormand has cute and clever kitty watercolor art. We’ll see what I can do with it. Stay tuned for interviews! Rachelcat Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Interviews! What is your most important characteristic? Four of Pumpkins The deck’s value is in its physical manifestation. And it sowed the seeds for future Halloween decks. It as veggie people as well as more normal Halloween characters. What is your strength? Two of Bats It makes you think, and think about the RWS, too. It gets those thoughts flapping around in your mind. Your weakness? Six of Bats It’s both too much and too little of a departure from RWS. The ideas are kind of all over the place. Does it have a destination in mind? What can you teach me? The Moon It’s ok to be made up of two natures, wolf and man. To trust my instincts. To pet a Frenchie. To avoid roadside lobster stands. We must be in Maine. How can I learn it? Queen of Pumpkins Stay grounded in the source material, but yes, use my intuition. And start by petting cats and rabbits. What will be the outcome of our work together? Justice We will achieve a well balanced combination, less painful than a werewolf. And understand true justice, not petty revenge (the voodoo doll in the corner). (Justice is Libra, cardinal air, shown by bats, crow, and owl.) Almost all cups. What is your most important characteristic? Seven of Cups The deck is very emotive. You can see in it anything you want to see, like the swirly ceiling. What is your strength? Three of Cups It helps you manifest (3) those emotions. The deck will feel like a friend. Your weakness? The Hierophant It’s a bit too traditional in meanings, but not in portrayals. What can you teach me? Nine of Cups To enjoy the richness of the deck and tarot. I don’t have to like what everyone else likes. How can I learn it? Ace of Cups Let the feeling flow naturally and unimpeded. I love a kitten in a cup! What will be the outcome of our work together? Ten of Pentacles I will introduce you all to the richness of the deck so we can enjoy it together. My taste will expand, and maybe my collection! Short interview for a Lenormand: What is your strength? Woman The deck will address my specific issues well. Your weakness? Mountain But it might be a struggle to get there. What can I learn from you? Clouds How to understand “negative” readings. What will be the outcome of our work together? Letter I will become more confident in my Lenormand readings.
