Hello everyone, I've read somewhere the Death card can be related to finances in general, but in what ways?

I tend to interpret this card in terms of change and transformation, especially after an ending, or also as something inevitable, as paying taxes for example 😂

What do you think?

What are your experiences in terms of finances with the Death card?

Thank you so much.

Death is *not* good financially. Dead money, lay-off from job, bankruptcy or business failure [death of business].

In some spreads it might be good for Inheritance or if you actually work in a Death-related industry like mortician or hospice. Only then would I take it as  financially neutral. The other cards would reveal more details in those scenarios.

Thank you for your answer @Misterei. Actually I have the same "negative" feeling.. I've thought about inheritance too; of course yes, it always depends on the other cards.

This reminded me of that quote, "in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes". It was in a letter by Benjamin Franklin but he probably took it from somewhere.

For me, in the long-term, Death is not necessarily a bad financial card, it's difficult in the short term. This could indicate an inheritance, literally a death , like @Misterei said. Besides that, it can be better finances, but you have to change things now. It needs bold action and decision-making. For example, finding a job with better money, an even bolder action is to entirely change careers. It's something like that, a big change! There is something to this card as well I think about not ignoring reality, something has to die in your life, so you can thrive. The short term could be a loss in some way but long term, you are in a much better position.

I don't see Death as a negative card, but a neutral one.  I see Death as the end of something that has been ongoing a while—not like the Tower, which is usually something unexpected, out of the blue.  Death may not be something cheery, but it's a necessary end. And one you've actually seen coming for a while.

In terms of finances, I am inclined to go with the Death card as interpreted in the As Above, So Below deck, by Barbara Moore.  It depicts Death as an everyday event ...a SOLD sign going up on a property.  In other words, that phase is over ...for better or for worse ...and you can finally move on.  It might represent either a financial gain or a loss, depending on circumstances, but the event itself is over.  You won't get that house (or money, or job, or business) back now.  The deal is final.

I generally feel a sense of relief when the Death card appears in one of my readings.  Something that has been dragging me down (money, career, relationship) has finally been lost, but the loss is long overdue—and final.  Death, to me, always indicates finality.  You can't go back, once the Death card appears.

Death reversed usually indicates that something SHOULD be gone/done, but is lingering ...either through circumstances, or because I won't let go!  In general, I'd much rather receive Death upright than reversed.  Clinging madly to what should be gone is stressful.

The only time the Death card worries me is when it appears and I don't know what it refers to.  It CAN occasionally mean the death of something or someone  I've not forseen, or don't know about yet. That's when I pull a clarifier!  🙂

@DanielJUK and @ChariotI agree with both of you, something will financially end, for better or for worse. It's something that's necessary for moving on. Thank you for your takes.

Hey guys! ☺️
@November, I agree with the contributions that have already been made.
In general, I see death as a period where the priority is to cut costs, reduce expenses, ration, and make budget adjustments. The scythe reminds me a lot of this aspect of cutting. Death also reminds me of winter, the cold and the period of scarce resources. Something very connected to the fable of the ant and grasshopper.
However, like everything in tarot, I believe it depends on the context. I already did a reading where the financial forecast came as the combination of death + king of pentacles. I interpreted it as a very positive change. The sickle, in this context, came as a harvesting instrument. Harvest good fruits after a period of drought.

Hope it's useful!

Thank you @Yola, I like your interpretation and I agree about it all, especially for what you said about the scythe.

The Death card is connected to the 8th House of Astrology and Scorpio. It is connected to someone else money. This can be a loan, credit and an inheritance. Astrology can give more insights to the Tarot cards.
