GreyBug Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 (edited) My third creation - another all-majors deck, this time executed in collage. I like the feel of the images, they carry a weight of human history and culture. I haven't numbered or named them but I frankenstein-ed a picture of them all in order, so you can more easily see what's what (if you're not fussy about your Strength and Justice cards). I'm not entirely sure if that's who it is, but the statue on the box lid made me think of Pastoral Apollo, who I associate with his oracular domain. Edited November 24, 2024 by GreyBug
Raggydoll Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I love collage decks and I also love archeology, so your deck is right up my alley! 😍 The box and the back design is wonderful too. I really like the colors on the backs! Did you draw out the backs or did you use a preexisting design? You previously talked about using tarot sleeves, what exactly are those? And where did you get them?
GreyBug Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 Thanks, @Raggydoll I drew the backs myself after a couple different drafts The protective sleeves is something that I found in a gaming shop, like for trading card games, Magic the Gathering etc. I think maybe people would also use these for baseball cards back in the day? You can find them in various sizes, I think "tarot" is the biggest size - 7x12cm. After the shop closed down I had no trouble finding the sleeves on Amazon.
Rose Lalonde Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 (edited) @GreyBug, wow, you're great with composition and color! (I'm not usually a fan of collage decks, but you've won me over with this one.) Your decks, even the backs, are beautifully done. @Raggydoll, if you don't find them quickly, try looking up "TCG sleeves" (trading card games). Like GreyBug said, I got them from a gaming shop. They make for sharp corners and a thick stack if you're putting them on 78 cards; I only use them on one deck, because I read with it often and don't know that it will be reprinted. I'll put a preview image small so I don't take up GreyBug's lovely thread. Edited November 29, 2024 by Rose Lalonde
GreyBug Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 Thanks @Rose Lalonde It is quite difficult to strike a balance with a collage deck. There are some that I find too sparse, others are definitely too crowded. And then of course they also have to fit whatever aesthetic you're into... I think this one is leaning slightly to the side of "crowded", but it's quite alright in small spreads. And yes, the sleeves make things so chunky, but I like the soft sort of... puffiness? The air cushioning between the cards. Usually I prefer decks to feel more papery than plasticky but somehow the sleeves don't bother me.
