Bodhiseed Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 (edited) Thank you Fire cat for keeping us rolling along! I'm in this week with the Ellis Tarot paired with the Brownies Oracle. Creativity is an energy. It’s a precious energy, and it’s something to be protected. —Ava DuVernay Lichen is often seen growing on tree branches, but on unhealthy trees, it appears in profusion. The bark of a healthy tree continues to expand and slough off with the growth of the tree, but with a tree that isn't well, this process stops. It's no wonder that this Queen is adorned with lush growth, as she is a nurturer of creativity and development. She would tell us not to worry about making mistakes, as these are to be expected, but to keep working at cultivating our talent. The Brownies warn us to shelter ourselves and the project we're working on. There are those who love to criticize, not to be helpful, but to squash our confidence and enthusiasm. GreyBug Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 I'd like to join! It's my first time I'll be working with Tarot of the Drowning World and I made my first post in my journal here. It's one of the decks I've used relatively often, definitely not one that needs to be included into rotation by force, but it's a week of plenty of uncertainty and I wanted something at least somewhat familiar and comfortable.
fire cat pickles Posted November 25, 2024 Author Posted November 25, 2024 Welcome to the group @GreyBug 😀 The DoW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members. Hope you enjoy your time with us here!
fire cat pickles Posted November 25, 2024 Author Posted November 25, 2024 Tarot of the Drowning World is a deck in my collection! It isn't one I read with, but I do like it. It's one of the few photo collage decks I think the creators manage to make work. I may have to break it out and have a look again.

It's photos of installations made in real life in the photographer's garden, kind of like the Somnia but pips. I appreciate the dedication and work behind that. I did also quite enjoy the guidebook (and its bibliography) but I'm not relying on it this week. Previously I've used this deck to best effect for ancestor work, but I'm trying a new technique this week. I already see I need to tweak it, perhaps step 1 will be to flip all the cards at once. If that still doesn't yield results I'm happy with, I'm going to re-name the piles/assign them different functions.
Rachelcat Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Hi everyone! I love to see our little group growing! This week, I’ll be doing food decks for Thanksgiving. I’ve searched around for food decks, but it looks like all food tarots have some meat in them, so as a veggie, I have to pass on them. I’ve ended up with two foodie oracles: Field Guide to Garden Dragons (one I’ve used as a deck of the week before) and Green Witch Oracle. Garden Dragons are adorable dragons styled as fruits and veggies, plus tea and coffee. 46 cards with keywords. Green Witch Oracle is by Cheralyn Darcey, who has created other flower decks for Rockpool. It has 11 cards for each element: Fire is herbs, water is fruits, air is flowers, earth is vegetables. Cards have realistic illustrations of the main plant with various esoteric symbols added and keywords. Let’s give them a spin! Well, this looks really Thanksgiving, at least the first three cards. What is your most important characteristic? Honeydew Dragon, Gratitude I actively dislike melons, but I’m into gratitude though. And the little bee by the flower. The deck makes me feel good about all the wonderful plants that provide us yummy food, and the farmers and pollinators that make it happen. What is your strength? Pineapple Dragon, Hospitality So spiky yet so sweet! The pineapple is indeed a (18th century?) symbol of hospitality. The deck is all about welcoming and enjoyment. Your weakness? Pumpkin Dragon, Mystery Oh! Pumpkins for jack-o-lanterns for Halloween for mystery! Got it. The deck’s weakness is the sometimes long chain of associations for the keywords! What can you teach me? Lucky Clover Dragon, Luck Ladybugs and a rainbow, too! And some sort of Irish symbol on the wing. The deck can teach me to be open to feeling lucky, and to recognize when I’m actually lucky. How can I learn it? Blackberry Dragon, Timing I love blackberries! Second favorite fruit after cherries. I can learn to recognize my luck by paying attention to when good things happen. What will be the outcome of our work together? Celery Dragon, Renewal Celery takes a long time to grow from seed. But it can also grow back from the roots after it’s cut. That’s why it’s renewal. Just saw the caterpillar about to renew into a butterfly. I will come back to this adorable deck again and again when I need a renewal of cuteness plus food plus science! All food, no flowers (air). What is your most important characteristic? Productivity, Pumpkin (Also moon, scissors, and Cancer) Another pumpkin! The deck draws attention to its creation; it’s openly artistic, especially with the ink spots. And the theme of the four elements is obvious as well. What is your strength? Cleansing, Lemon (With moon, candles, and Gemini) It cleans away preconceived notions. It’s a clean concept with just the pictured plant. Your weakness? Stimulation, Chili peppers (Feather and Aries) I’ll get too excited about learning about the plants and forget about divination. What can you teach me? Passion, Beet (Oil lamp and Leo) Red for passion. I like “spring mix” salad greens, which include beet greens. I always make the joke that when I was a kid we threw the beet leaves over the fence for the neighbor’s horses, and now I’m paying extra to eat them! Evidently, the deck is sparking my nostalgia. The deck will help me recover some of my passion is for the past. How can I learn it? Wholeness, Blackberry (Pentagram and Aquarius) Got blackberry in the same position with the other deck! To do that, I should just go with what I like, like blackberries. Oh, and it might not be easy to learn. Blackberries are great, but the bushes are so prickly! What will be the outcome of our work together? Protection, Onion (Wind chime? and Aries) I don’t know. How will the deck bring me protection? Maybe it will be the ultimate veggie deck, and protect me from wanting another?
GreyBug Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 My second post of the week is here. Tweaking my approach with the method I've planned. Seemed to have work better today (I need to flip all my cards in one go, especially if it's a pip deck). Maybe it's a coincidence but it seems to be nudging me towards ancestor work in general again.
Bodhiseed Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Welcome to the DoW group, @GreyBug! @Rachelcat, I really like those two oracles you're using this week!
Natural Mystic Guide Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Natural Mystic Guide here again. I'm still enjoying familiarizing myself with the Witches' Wisdom deck.
fire cat pickles Posted November 26, 2024 Author Posted November 26, 2024 Welcome back @Natural Mystic Guide 😀
GreyBug Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 I forgot to share yesterday's post from my journal. I'm discovering that I can get a lot from this non-standard imagery and I have to skip that step if I only want a brief reading. Not sure I'll be doing a daily check-in today, not feeling it this morning. Maybe I'll try one of my bookmarked spreads later?
