What Is in The Container that The Queen of Cups Is Holding?

It's myth. A myth is a kind of roadmap.

... I think that what's in the Grail is the Kingdom of Heaven, enlightenment if you prefer... We're all Parsifal.

The whole Grail cycle .... doesn't open up right away.

Yes, a myth (or legend) contains something of the story of all humans. We're all on a quest, which is an inherent part of our life cycle.

As for the grail cycle "not opening up right away."  Well, there wouldn't be much point, would there? This is the nature of the quest.  We already have eternal life, but we're not necessarily enlightened in that state.  We forgot our etherself when we drank the waters of Lethe.

So maybe it is the quest itself that is in the cup?

I've read that when we're about to reincarnate we have lessons about the quest that we've chosen and these lessons include signposting / turning points options, and dejavu is supposedly part of remembering those lessons. So we've sort of prepared our Earth journey already, but forgot about it. Maybe that's the innertuition of this Queen.

Thanks for this link @katrinka. This might be good for discussion questions for a mysterious and closed "secret" group 🤐. If anyone's into that sort of thing.

I can't work out how to quote different people's comments from different pages - can anyone give me tips? Thanks.

I resonate with that type of thinking. Dejavu has certainly been a significant part of my life, and it feels like a quality of the Cups suit.

I’m going to reread Waites grail book. I believe I mostly skimmed through it those years ago. I saw that I still had the lecture and the slides by Mary Greer on my computer, so I am going to watch it again. If it gives me any new angles, I’ll share.

I agree that a study group of that kind is best run in the private clubs/study group area. If there is an interest, I’m sure it could be arranged. (I just can’t be the one who runs it, I have too much on my plate). If there is not enough formal interest, and you still want to go forward with it, then I’ll gladly send you an invite to my personal club area and we can discuss it there! (PM me and I’ll send you the invite) 😊

That tends to be such a hassle so I quote from one post at the time. Not sure if there is an easier way 🤔

Late to this discussion, but the Queen of Cups is one of my favorite cards in the tarot deck.  I see here as a very psychic woman who is a good one to go to for answers.  I like to imagine she is holding a cup with water in it--and to answer your question, she peers into it for the answer.  A wee bit of a whimsical meaning, but that feeling always comes over me when she appears in my readings.  I did ready through all of the answers here and they are good answers too.  I especially like the idea of possibly having a study group started here on each of the symbolism in each of the cards.  I would believe it would be best to have it based on the Rider Waite deck at first though, as there are so many tarot decks with very different images for each card.  I will keep my eyes posted for such a group!  I've been gone for a long while, but ready to get back here again and would love something like that group!

That doesn’t sound whimsical, I think it makes perfect sense 🙂 Scrying in water is a very old practice, and her expression definitely fits with that of a psychic who is channeling visions!

There is also the theory that it is a mistranslation and refers to the Sang Real - the true blood.

Indeed 🙂

I do think the grail myth is highly relevant to how Waite designed the minor arcana. He was wrapping up his massive grail book at the same time that Pam began with the artwork for the deck. So it would surely had been in the forefront of his mind.

Today I began skimming through the grail book yet again, but his writing is (as usual) so very dense. And especially so for us non native English speakers. That’s why I’m forever grateful that Mary Greer did the heavy work for us 😁 She’s truly amazing at summing up Waites ideas!

Actually - who's to say there is anything in it anyway ? Is it the same cup that all the other court cards are holding ?

My personal line of thinking is that that the idea underlying the cup is that it is a vessel and inherent in that idea of the cup is that it is meant to contain something. As cups represents the element of water, which in geo-terms is life, there is the idea of something contained within us [ETA that has life of sorts]. One aspect of that is our subconscious - under the surface of the water, but not necessarily a substance or a thing. There's also the surface of the water, and as Luna said above, seeing something on that water. That's a vision, but not necessarily a thing, even though it may represent some thing in the material world. That then goes to emotions and relationships which aren't necessarily things, other than the people that are interacting and the chemicals that they trigger.

So after that rambling 'thinking aloud' what am I trying to say? Well, more thinking aloud ... a cup is a cup is a cup - it symbolises a vessel, thus it is the idea of a vessel that is being represented by a cup of whatever shape, material etc.  All cups are different because humans are contain different subconscious contents built from different experiences, and in this case there's one experience that we all sort of superimpose the other cards onto to get the 'substance' of what is occurring within or around the Queen.

This is leading me to think about what you've suggested @gregory - If there is an empty cup, what does that represent?

It looks more like a trophy than cup to me.

so, not just what is in it but why is she scowling at it? I mean, I always assumed the waters of Eden were in it. Otherwise why would you have seraphim on the cup to guard it. But man, between her frown and her angry eyebrows she is not happy about something about that cup.
