Oprah Promoting Tarot Cards

I was doing some Googling on Oprah Winfrey the other day and was very surprised to find she is or was selling tarot cards on one of her sites. 

 

I do not think that this is a good thing for us tarot people to have Oprah's name involved with the tarot community.

 

The following is just my opinion of new-age guru Oprah Winfrey.

 

Oprah has been behind so many new age scams it's not funny. I'll list them for you.

 

The first one is called A Course In Miracles and I remember in her early tv days she had guest and ACIM teacher Marianne Williamson. Basically, ACIM is a "channeled" teaching of Jesus which talks about love, undoing and other confusing subjects.

I sort of did the daily lessons for about 60 days before I had to stop, I needed to come back to reality before I became some type of zombie.

 

Another guest I remember is Eckhart Tolle who wrote a book called The Power of NOW. I bought the book and read it. The main message that I got out of the book is that our "thoughts" are basically bad for us. I knew that was a scam when I read it.

 

Deepak Chopra was another scammer that was on Oprah a few times that I remember. I didn't buy his book because I knew to stay away from it.

 

And let's not forget John of God now. A convicted rapist who when he turned himself in had over 600 allegations of sexual misconduct and using "magic tricks" to do faith healing with was promoted by Oprah on her show and in her magazine.

 

And to me, the most toxic philosophy she has promoted the hell out of is the Law of Attraction with both tv shows on the video The Secret & new-age channeler Esther Hicks. What is the Law of Attraction? It's the belief that this world is an "attraction-based Universe" & that "like attracts like" This sounds like an easy and simple philosophy of life. But that means that everything that happens to you good or bad means that you attracted that circumstance. So, let's say you are a woman, and you get raped, you attracted that from the Universe. Or if you get beat up by your husband, you somehow attracted that. Or if you get into a car accident and you become disabled...you attracted that.

It seems to me that Oprah has been behind every toxic system of beliefs or thinking with the last 25 years.

 

I've also been reading on the internet that she has connections to P. Diddy. I put a link in for the article I saw.

We can’t control who will use or endorse a divinatory tool, so I personally wouldn’t waste energy on it. And to be honest, what Oprah potentially could do to the tarot community is absolutely nothing compared to what Hitler and the nazis did with the runes. 
 

My approach is this: be the change you want to see and use tarot the way you think it should be used!

Why shouldn't she ? She's no worse than the people on AT - and there are a couple here too - who DEMAND that everyone should accept tarot as being an important part of who we are (fair enough), just as valid as belief in god, which to them it isn't so that's a bit inconsiderate - and in the same breath demand that they accept that their religion is rubbish, that the fact hat their religion says tarot is wrong means that THEY are wrong. We can all accept others for who they are. There's a thread here somewhere which started out asking how the OP could MAKE the people around her understand that tarot is the real thing and none of their stuff is.

 

Yes it's a shame that she seems to have some questionable people in her circle, but don't we all. NOT telling about mine, but there are certainly two (one now dead) that I KNOW everyone else here (except Raggydoll, I think; one person who has totally GOT acceptance) would wish to see locked up. Her associates might learn something from tarot - and even if it isn't what we aficionados might want them to learn, it's still learning. Leave her be and don't watch. OR - offer to go on her show.... Whatever you think of her and New Age - she has also done a lot of good. And let's not forget, she may get a few people in who DO start to study it seriously. Just like Horrid Histories get kids into REAL history and demanding museum visits and the rest.

Returning to add - she is no worse - and in some ways better - than the fair number of people who consider they are SERIOUS about tarot and hype their stuff to make as much cash as possible out of it. I could name two particular sites here, but that would be invidious; They, however, promulgate as much junk in their way as she does. AND because they put themselves across as genuinely knowledgeable about tarot itself, and some people - here too - believe them, they do more damage than she ever will.

 

And if Doreen is again her, she must be doing something right. Doreen who for years sold - for BUNDLES of money - very dodgy decks with things like death and the devil substituted because they weren't NICE - and then suddenly went back and decided to find Christ and give it all up - so now makes just as much money out of that,

Please can we becareful of the language we use about the famous people being mentioned and calling these rich people scammers, we don't want to get sued in future 😅
