Merry Christmas Everyone!

A unique version of Reading Circle for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in!

Merry Christmas all!

So it’s Christmas week.  And I’ve decided to reveal a deck project I’ve been working on off and on for probably 15 years: A Christmas Carol Tarot. What I have are: card attributions/titles, quotes from the novella, text that would work in a smallish booklet, some spreads that I’ve already used a good bit, and ideas for illustrations. The illustration ideas will probably need to be revised because some now seem impractical to fit all on one card! If you know someone who can create Victorian-style illustrations, please put them in contact with me (a serious request).

I printed the attributions on 3x5 cards a while back, so that’s what I’m going to use. (They really don’t shuffle well!) And I’ll add the quotes in readings. I’ll do a regular reading for Tuesday and then a card a day with my regular Twelve Days of Christmas spread for this week and next. And I’m adding Yuletide Lenormand because Yule!

I’m really curious to see what I get for the deck interview.

What is your most important characteristic?  Emperor, Old Fezziwig

“He has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome; a pleasure or a toil.”

I’m in total control of this project.  And I’ve been very possessive of it until now.

What is your strength?  2 of Knives, News for Caroline

“He is dead.” . . . She was thankful in her soul to hear it . . . . She prayed forgiveness the next moment, and was sorry; but the first was the emotion of her heart.

I’ve made good decisions on the attributions.

Your weakness?  10 of Knives, The Man Lying Dead

A pale light . . . fell straight upon the bed; and on it, plundered and bereft, unwatched, unwept, uncared for, was the body of this man.

I’ve let it lay around without doing anything with it for too long.  But with the Death card below, maybe it means this is really the end of the whole thing.  And is that a weakness?

What can you teach me?  6 of Cups, Wonderful Party

“Will you let me in, Fred?” Let him in! It is a mercy he didn’t shake his arm off. . . . Wonderful party, wonderful games, wonderful unanimity, won-der-ful happiness!

The deck can teach me to be more emotionally generous.  I can give the fun of this deck to you.

How can I learn it?  Mistress of Cups, Scrooge’s Niece

She was very pretty: exceedingly pretty. With a dimpled, surprised-looking, capital face; a ripe little mouth, that seemed made to be kissed–as no doubt it was . . .

By asserting my ownership but still enjoying sharing good feelings.

What will be the outcome of using you for this two-week period?  Death, The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come

Scrooge . . . beheld a solemn Phantom, draped and hooded, coming, like a mist along the ground, towards him.

Well, this is disturbing.  Does this mean this is the end of the project?  Will I just let it fall to the ground now?  Or does it mean this is the next logical step and it’s time to go forward?  They say you can’t read for yourself.  I’m learning I can’t read for my decks!

Yuletide Lenormand short interview

What is your strength?  Reindeer (Rider)

It moves straight to the point.

Your weakness?  Wreath (Ring)

But it’s hard to commit to it because it’s just for Yule.

What can I learn from you?  Snow Fox

How to be clever and do the necessary work to make the deck work.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  Greeting Card (Letter)

The deck will prompt me to write more.  And I’ll be able to check it off my list.

Ok then!

To all the DoWers:

May your holiday be merry and bright,

and the coming year full of wonder and delight!

I'm in this week with the Dark Goddess Tarot paired with Tattwa Cards - thank you Fire cat!

The orchestra whirls me wider than Uranus flies;
It wrenches such ardors from me I did not know I possess'd them.

~Walt Whitman

Mami Wati is the Igbo goddess of ardor and fidelity. The core of her worship is dance - rhythmic, abandoned movement rather than something choreographed. Who wants a religion that or philosophy that doesn't allow a little pure, ecstatic joy to balance out the seriousness of daily life? We all need to lay down our burdens occasionally. Fire: Seed of Earth represents alchemy, tempering our enthusiasm and optimism with an eye on our objective. We need release to clear our minds, but staying in that blissful state won't help us move forward.
