This is the middle decan of Aries, a decan ruled by the Sun and corresponding to the 3 of Wands.

Meleen's post for Aries 2

telos3w.png.8165d0da2c3606fa529e29038d5ff4e6.png

Part of the 3 of Wands from Telos Tarot of 777

A tiny portion of the info at Meleen's blog:

"The decan is ruled by the Sun both by Chaldean descending order and by triplicity, and the Sun is exalted in Aries, with the exaltation degree in this decan, adding to the virtue of this card. The Sun is mainly a giver of light and of life on this earth, but its harsh rays in the desert can also bring death. Behind and above all is a sun with six rays - a solar number. The Sun is crowned with a five-pointed crown, for Mars, ruler of the sign Aries; on the crown is the upright triangle of fire. Iin the springtime the solar force awakens the seeds of the Earth, cracking them open with the force of Mars (Aries) so they emerge from sleep under the earth."

Post about this decan and related thoughts, creations or studies between now and April 10. See the Start Here page if you need ideas for inspiration.

In the northern hemisphere which influenced these decan correspondence, Aries 2 is early spring. What do you normally do at this time of year, and how might that relate to the 3 of Wands?

Other related cards are the Emperor for Aries, the Sun, and the Queen of Wands.

(Telos Tarot of 777 is 15% off while we cycle through the 3 decans of Aries with code DECANWALK2025.)

I'm not sure yet what I'll do for this decan, but here are some of the cards I'm looking at...

Beautiful color, so vibrant with the oranges, reds and yellows. I aim to pull my cards out tomorrow. I have an 11⁰ Mars in this decan. I know we just left the Mars decan, but the first house is still Aries and it is very, very close. 😊

I know the decan walk isn't about ones natal chart, but it helps me to combine this with my astrology studies.

I have Mars in my natal chart's Aries 1, and I didn't think about that until you mentioned it. I did once post about reading the cards of your natal chart, but I'm no expert. Anyway, my post about natal chart cards is off topic, so I'll stop here.

I'm thinking I'll read up on Helios as the Greek personification of the sun for one thing. He came up in my reading for Aries 1 as an ancestor of the ram of the golden fleece and of Medea. I'm struck by how he's a charioteer - the sun moving across the sky - and the Golden Dawn and Crowley's Princes are also charioteers and associated with the sun. (Of course, Waite didn't do chariots, but I suppose if one horse could carry the sun across the sky, then you could make a connection to his Knights, the only court rank in motion.)

just got my Telos 777 Deck!!! So now I can read with it "live"!!!

First observations:

this is a time of year where I feel motivated to make changes, both physical and mental. There is an invigorating feeling of motivation to clean up, reset goals, "clear out" the shelf of last year. This past year really brought on some feelings about needing to make big life changes...possible retirement; getting out of old, stale situations to make room for new more vibrant ones.

A big thing for me to think about is making choices now that are more focused on my own well being, instead of "sacrificing" myself for the well-being of others, which is what I have always been most inclined to do in my life. The combination of the 2 and 3 of Wands is helping me to not be so worried about making possible big changes <--- something that I am instinctively terrified to do. Being a Hermit, I don't like all of that "boat rocking" and "window opening".

Maybe I need to appreciate the light more? I generally am not a morning person/beginning of the day person. I might try - for the next 10 days - to not dread the sunrise, and the start of each day as much.

I'm like you. Not so keen on big changes. I see what you mean about the help in these cards. I'll try to incorporate that.

But I am a morning person. Didn't used to be, but now I can't sleep in until the sun comes up. I do like the quiet -- in some ways the early morning feels like late night.

I think I fear big change becasue I assume that it has to happen quick, and with lots of upheaval. And the eternal pessimist in me makes me feel like it isalways goign to end in failure. I also think these 2 cards are trying to remind me of the positive that is also a possibility. Saying "stop being such a curmudgeon"...

I don't think I will ever be a morning person. As far back as I remember, I don't function well until after 11am-ish. Both mentally and physically. And it is like a switch. After 11, I perk up, and become more productive. I am most productive between 5pm and midnight..

I spent this morning trying to think of how best I am going to be able to sustain my decan walk and then things got a little crazy! I believe it is going to be a bit of trial and error until I conclude what will support me best. I think I am trying to see the connections within the decks as well as the connections to each other.

I am not the deep scholar reading and memorizer of details. I want to know all the gods and goddesses and the names of symbols, but they often elude me. What moves me, captures every cell in my body is energy. What is the image showing me? What message is being sent from my place of experience? What does the card want me to know? What do I feel? I am a natal Cancer Moon Child. I connect first through feeling. I look at all the images like I am in an art gallery walking through and spending time with each one. As I type this I am thinking I may set up a little art display and dress up as though going out for the evening. Wouldn’t that be fun!

It would! I lay cards out in various arrangement, but your idea of consciously making an event of it reinforces a mindset that what you're doing something special and out of the ordinary. I'd never thought of clothing as a way to do that in relation to tarot, but beyond the fun of it, it makes a lot of sense! Creating that moment to feel deeply. -- Thank you for the gallery you provided us too. (I don't recognize the deck above the Haindl, the one with dark blue at the bottom of every card?)

(I've liked Greek mythology since I was a kid, but yeah, I need to feel something about the story that resonates for it to be a help. I'm still thinking about that story of the sacrificial golden fleece in a protected grove of Mars, and the Aries rams knocking their heads together to prove who's most fit to mate. The latter I get -- Crowley has a quote for the 2 of Wands that's, "destruction may be regarded as the first step in the creative process." Spring is not a subtle season. Survival of the fittest out there. My memory's not great though, to say the least. If something doesn't make a strong impression on me, or I don't interact with it repeatedly, I have trouble keeping it in mind.)

I'll keep going with the flow. On March 10, I started a creative project, and I feel in tune with the current energy.

Yesterday, I was listening to music to get energised for the gym when my gadget shuffled Monument by Röyksopp feat. Robyn into my ears. I relished the expansiveness of the track and felt clearly that it's not only time to gain a broader perspective but also to add some purpose to the drive—to infuse my actions with enthusiasm.

Quote

enthusiasm(n.)

c. 1600, from French enthousiasme (16c.) and directly from Late Latin enthusiasmus, from Greek enthousiasmos "divine inspiration, enthusiasm (produced by certain kinds of music, etc.)," from enthousiazein "be inspired or possessed by a god, be rapt, be in ecstasy," from entheos "divinely inspired, possessed by a god," from en "in" (see en- (2)) + theos "god" (from PIE root *dhes-, forming words for religious concepts).

Source: etymonline.com

Maybe that's were the Knights come into play as they are not the bodily representation of god but those who carry god's spirit.

The power of passion! 🤩

Nice track. Feels like a lot of focused, forward energy. A straight line ahead. If I don't have song like that when on the treadmill, I just wilt.

Yes, feeling deeply. I am a Libra rising and the relationships I create with "things" are all defined by my feelings. I am grateful to have this space to post the layouts and my thoughts. Thank you for creating this club. I am discovering a lot about myself. That is The Star Tarot by Cathy McClelland.

I have books on myths of all kinds because I want to read them, but I rarely do. I don't have a good reason why. I've yet to read anything Crowley's written, or about him, beyond what others have shared. Interesting quote. Repetition and working with something is my form of retaining details. I love to read, but if I don't apply it regularly, talk about it with others, keep it active in my life, it is forgotten.

Here are my cards for the second decan of Aries. This is my seventh year doing my tarot calendar project, putting up the cards associated with the zodiac sign, decan card, planetary and court card ruler, and also the Moon phase and weekday.

I have cats so I can't put the cards on a table although I would love that - I have to put them on a magnetic board, and the magnets bother me a bit but well, that's the price of having a house full of cats!

20250331_180353.thumb.jpg.e0f96fbe3ecdfb75c5af2a8d0c589b43.jpg

Everything is arranged around a Wheel of the Year that I made myself (btw a wonderful activity for understanding how all this works). The zodiac sign is framed by the court card (Queen of Wands) and the Tabula Mundi decan card for Aries.

To the left: versions of the Emperor. To the left: versions of the Three of Wands.

I always use the Hermetic Kabbalah and Arcana of Astrology; they're on the left and right side of the Wheel, respectively.

The Tabula Mundi and Thoth are also always on the calendar. The RWS versions are represented by my mini-RWS-magnets that I made many years ago.

The rest of the calendar is made up of decks from one of my deck groups. This year, Aries is represented by decks dealing with astrology, astronomy and mythology.

2nddecanAries2025.thumb.jpg.3d381a3b42c4060a1ebff442d87b6a9b.jpg

This calendar is on the wall of my study, just above my desk, i.e., I see it all the time. I use this decan as a time to get to know the card interpretations of each deck creator, and by doing so, I learn so much.

20250324_103137.thumb.jpg.ac5cb6b4402f800938dc31d189e4ab58.jpg

This is a picture from last week (1st decan of Aries) with my cluttered desk and my work station. I absorb tarot content all day long 😉

This is the right side of the calendar with the different Three of Wands cards:

Let's go through the rows one by one.

20250331_180350.jpg.6bd353ddc1587ac8d1e302b9fe1fa41b.jpg

The Princess of Disks is up in the corner because the Aces and Princesses represent the element of the season - we are in Spring, and the fixed sign of Spring is Taurus, so we're in the Earth season.

The Zodiac Tarot in a tine is very much an RWS clone. I like the dark background, although it diminishes the power of the Sun a bit.

The Star Tarot Three of Wands shows how the power of the Sun makes Two turn into Three. The butterflies symbolize transformation, this "become what you are meant to be" moment. Threes are about growth and expansion, and that's important for this card.

20250401_112747.thumb.jpg.6bb023eb8974aebb2d18d381f682f2c6.jpg

Then we have the Cosmos Tarot and Oracle card: they chose Tucana as the constellation for this card. It's described in the book as talkative, self-confident and open to change. The Constellation Tarot uses pips for the minors; they glow in a colour associated with the zodiac sign, which is in this case Fire.

20250401_112756.thumb.jpg.faad4883c28c7e0268abd74c4afe2604.jpg

Next, we have the Mythic Tarot - the Wands are associated with the myth of Iason, the Argonauts and the Golden Fleece, so here we have Iason in the early stages of his quest, confronting King Pelias. Willpower, assertiveness and a clear vision of his quest.

The Celestial Tarot uses different planetary rulers; the Three of Wands is ruled by Jupiter in this deck, and it makes sense to have the son of Zeus/Jupiter, Perseus, as person depicted on the card. He is shown with the head of the Gorgo Medusa in his hand - he has won his first victory, but this is only the beginning of his journey.

It's interesting that the Mythic and Celestial Tarot both show mythological heroes at an early stage of their hero's journey - determined to see it through to the end.

Let's move to the bottom row.

20250401_112808.thumb.jpg.936f3b142f6a74e96912f1c9732f7716.jpg

Today, I have Mars for Tuesday up, which fits very well!

And my last four Three of Wands cards:

20250401_112817.thumb.jpg.350e4bd860c020f8404eb04dd64f9542.jpg

Nefertari Tarot - two merchants celebrating their success. It's a win-win situation. Like the Cosmos Tarot with Tucana, this card connects the number Three to cooperation, collaboration and teamwork - an aspect that is emphasized in the Three of Cups and Three of Pentacles further, and its total lack in the Three of Swords makes this card so difficult.

The Mythologia Fennica - Blind Man's Guide. The book explains that if you have decided on your path, you'll have guidance, even if you can't see the way. You'll know where to go, just like a blind man who intuits his way forward.

The Tarot of the Holy Light follows the same convention as the Celestial Tarot, i.e., the card is ruled by Jupiter. The book goes into detail - the three-headed alchemical snake as a symbol of Divine Will, Moon and Sun blessing the undertaking, the card as a whole speaks about motivation and courage. Payne-Towler doesn't write about the kind of tree - for me, it's an oak, associated with Jupiter.

The Terra Volatile is a variation of the RWS card. It shows a man looking out at the incoming ships. The sea is a bit chopped, but he is determined to see them come in safely.

Sun in Aries works really well. The Sun is exalted in Aries, the energy is quieter and more focused than in the Two of Wands where Mars kicks our butts to get us moving. Here, we're on our way.

I'm back with the next card.

20250401_095659.jpg.2d04cb96b9aac35b30ea905d25f36ca4.jpg

I've been doing a kind of meditation with these, letting the energy of the card flow through me, trying to remember it as many times throughout the day as I can. I noticed that, during the 2 of Wands, things started happening. I did several things I'd been postponing for ages. And I was finally able to secure a physical copy of one of Marie Kondo's book on tidying-up in English, so I hope to give decluttering a serious go 😆

Sun is in Aries for us right now.

ETA (I was going to write a new post)

Is anyone else interested in using Oracle of the Radiant Sun for the decan study?

Thought it might be fun for this decan to add a few of William Lilly's rulerships of the Sun (from the 1600s).  Especially ones in which several other noted astrologers in history agreed with him.

The Sun has rulership over:

the brain

cinnamon

roosters

cramps

emperors

industriousness

Italy

kings
marigolds

Rosa Solis (medicinal drink derived from the sundew, a carnivorous plant)

St John's Wort

vines
