Sonnenkind Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Hello there As my title says, new here and still rather new to tarot. I have been fascinated with tarot for a long time but finally got my first deck about a year ago. Obviously, I am still learning. The more I get to know the cards, the more I love the philosophical depth of them. I primarily read for myself. I have just done some readings for others for practice. I have come to the forum as I lack people to talk to about tarot. I am looking for a place where I might find others to discuss individual cards, learn new spreads, or get additional input for my personal readings sometimes. I especially struggle with the court cards.
Sonnenkind Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 I have The Light Seer's Tarot, Cosmic Slumber Tarot, and The Unfolding Path Tarot. But so far I only ever use The Light Seer's Tarot.
DanielJUK Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Welcome to the community @Sonnenkind Glad you have found us here 😀 Please join in any discussions you want, you are welcome to post in old ones around the place and there is a search bar at the top. Start any new you wish as well 🙂 When you get to 5 posts, you can join in the readings and exchange areas as they will appear.
Sonnenkind Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 Thank you for the welcome. It seems like I am currently not allowed to tag people. I guess this will change after 5 posts? I have noticed that many discussions seem to have been inactive for a long time and I was wondering if there is a point in replying there. I am still reading through the forum. Are there many active members here?
DanielJUK Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Yes when you get to 5 posts, there are no restrictions in posting and you can tag people , message, etc 😀. It's just to stop spammers who are sometimes around. I think you can quote people already. 1 hour ago, Sonnenkind said: I have noticed that many discussions seem to have been inactive for a long time and I was wondering if there is a point in replying there. I can never tell with a thread if it is going to get many replies or not. It seems to be random if a discussion takes off and is important in that moment. It's a forum of different opinions, perspectives, knowledge and methods, we would love to hear your views and posts on the subjects as well 😊
joy Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Hello @Sonnenkind welcome to the TT&M Family @DanielJUK already gave you some very good info so I will not repeat 🤗 Most new readers struggle with the court cards. We have a really funny and very helpful game on those cards https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/forum/65-60-quirky-court-cards/
Sonnenkind Posted August 7 Author Posted August 7 Thank you, joy. I have taken a look at the 62 questions and watched the introductory video. This does look like a very interesting exercise. Also one, which at first looks really difficult for me. Like I will have to do serious studying to answer any of those questions. Skimming those questions made me immediately realize just how clueless I am regarding court cards 😂 Thank you for pointing out this exercise. I will most certainly spend a lot of time with this.

JoyousGirl Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Welcome @Sonnenkind Feel free to ask questions, and revive old threads. Join in the conversations and participate - that's what makes the forum active and better for all of us. It doesn't matter how long we have been reading the cards, we will always have questions because there's no end to learning them. 13 hours ago, Sonnenkind said: many discussions seem to have been inactive for a long time Sometimes if a lot of posts come in, they'll sort of crowd out the older ones, which might get missed. Nothing wrong with reviving them - a lot of us will have new perspectives and some newcomers may not have found the thread and want to talk about it. Forums succeed when we participate. They grow when we contribute. They feel like a comfy chair and safe place - when we accept we're all different and get off our high horse (We all have opinions and we can all be the Knight when we fixate on our opinions - our cause that we are championing.) Now I am going to use what I have said about high horses, as a potential perspective on the Court cards you mentioned. I think we'll all agree they were difficult when we started. The Page is the learning stage, he is young and in the learning process - sort of like the theory side of things - he is being formed. Then he has a bit of knowledge and goes out in the world to apply it, which is like the Knight in the court cards - who might be a bit superior on his high horse - he has gained some knowledge and experience but might not realise he doesn't know as much as he likes to think he does. The Knight is still being formed. Then we meet the Queen, who applies some balancing to the situation, the feminine component of balance a sort of nurturing and reflective integration of all of the previous knowledge and experience. And then becomes the King, who has seen very much and done very much and thought very much. King has become aware that knowledge is important, but so is experience and reflection - King is the masculine - and authoritative in his domain. With the queen - as a combination of Masculine force (King) and Feminine force (Queen) they are two parts contributing to a balance of overseeing and reflecting on their domain. That's just my opinion, though! One of the many and others may differ. Again, welcome. I hope you'll enjoy the boards.
Sonnenkind Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 @JoyousGirl Thank you for the welcome and the overview of the nature of the different levels of court cards. I have already found a lot of food for thought in this forum. I am very intrigued by the 78 weeks of tarot. And I have already learned quite a bit looking into older responses in this thread. If I indeed do all those quirky court cards questions and the 78 weeks of tarot, I will spend years in this forum just doing exercises 😂 But I guess that's the point of it.
DanielJUK Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Sorry to add to your study material, but you might find this reference thread here useful as well @Sonnenkind 🙂
Sonnenkind Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 @DanielJUK Thank you! This is a great list of additional resources! So now I can spend every minute of my life that I would have just scrolled with studying tarot 😂
Locard Posted August 13 Posted August 13 welcome! I've owned decks for decades, but only started learning a month ago; happy to see somebody else fairly new with a long time interest.
