SAINTS_SALVATION Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Hiya, I know the title is weird but its a couple questions combined into one im afraid. Ive been working with this deck since I began, its my first ever deck actually, and I've had a decent amount of success contacting spirits with it but this has been limited to family members and friends/family of friends. I ask if its a good idea because I have heard conflicting opinions on whether it is a good idea to bring a deck to this place, as it is notoriously haunted prison that is very old. The real kicker is that a family member claims to have contacted an ancestor here, wich is possible given our family history but I am very sceptical. I didn't think it would be an issue but another tarot reader in my life is adamant it would be, would I be at risk of anything becoming attached to the deck? Also would this be an appropriate place to attempt mediumship in the first place or is it a bad idea? This prison is known for being haunted by some malevolent spirits and I don't want to f myself over. Sorry this is all over the place lol, and I especially apologise is this is the wrong place for this post, Id just love some advice/clarity on this as im very new to this part of tarot<3
DanielJUK Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I've moved this thread to the Tarot Talk & Technique area as really we are talking about a tarot deck, more than mediumship here.
Raggydoll Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Here are my personal thoughts on the topic - do bear in mind that experiences and opinions will wary, so take what resonates! I would not bring your special deck to that place. I keep my ancestral tools separate and it works well for me. It is partly a matter of respect, but also because I do not want to muddle the energies. I have a deck that I use for general mediumship work. It is the one I would use for most spirit explorations and I probably would use it for 'haunted house' explorations, unless the place was giving me very bad vibes. If you are going to attempt a reading there, I would select a specific deck for that purpose, and I would keep that deck as one that you use for similar purposes. I don't really bother with cleansing decks, nor do I necessarily think it is generally necessary. I am not afraid of having something 'possess' my deck (because I view it as very unlikely), but I do acknowledge the possibility of lingering energies (not entities). If there is a lingering vibe to a deck, I just leave it in a drawer for a while and then shuffle extra well, and that typically takes care of things. Are you experienced with mediumship work? Do you know how to put up metaphysical boundaries and reject spirits that you do not want contact with? If so, then I think it can be interesting to do readings in such a place. If you are a sensitive person, then you might not need any tools and you might also not have the option of whether or not you are going to do mediumship work there. A sensitive person tends to be approached by spirits in such locations whether they want to or not. Its also possible that you will be able to read the energies and pick up on previous events there. It all depends on what type of psychic qualities you have been working on developing. Regarding dark energies - do be sure to have firm boundaries and some type of spiritual protection. There is always a small risk that a spirit will cling onto you. So make sure you have a plan for ridding yourself of unwanted company before you head home. You can ask your ancestors to help you with boundaries, protection and with ridding yourself of any potential hitchhikers. Ask them for help ahead of time, so you can enter the place confidently. Do let us know how it goes, if you go ahead with it all. It sounds interesting ☺️
Tanga Posted March 9 Posted March 9 IMO - It's not the deck itself but what you believe about it all. Alla @Raggydolls post - what are your beliefs and your structures for 'hitch hickers'? Do you have a self-protection protocol? The strength of your beliefs is one whole half of what forges how you may be affected by the "other" worlds. I personally have particular decks for particular things (I like the idea of clearly defined energetics too) - but I don't believe that this is the case for everyone. That all depends on you.
SAINTS_SALVATION Posted March 9 Author Posted March 9 Tysm for your advice, @Raggydoll Ive got a new deck that I will take instead, will be easier anyway as it is smaller than my other decks. I don't believe that spirits can become attached to the deck itself, not in the same way they can to things like Oujia boards. Mainly because the ball isn't in the spirits court when you do a reading if that makes any sense, your the one controlling the reading instead. I can be really annoying about my oldest deck (Rider Waite), it's very saturated with my own energy and I don't want that to change if I can help it so ill er on the side of caution. I haven't been doing mediumship for as long but Ive been given some very solid advice from my friend who has and my mother whose got some experience in it on protecting myself and Ive got experience with rejecting spirits, I will veil whilst im there and carry some of my crystals/wards and sigils Ive made and other stuff. Im also lucky that im not going home directly after, so I can cleanse and such before I do. I will take your advice of asking for help from my ancestors though, can never be too sure lol I can be fairly sensitive, but without the cards I struggle, I tend to pull a spread and then just go a bit nonverbal as I get pictures and moments or certain phrases come through instead of agonising over card meanings, they sort of guide me but don't give me all of it. Ive been doing a lot of work with reading auras/energies so im hoping to get some practice in if possible. I go in a few days, so ill probs give an update soon x
