Decks You Missed Out On

What are the decks that you truly, bitterly regret missing out on? It may be because it has become OOP and is no longer available at all, or it can still be around but its prices have become mercenarily astronomical. It may be a limited edition deck you kept postponing on buying until it's too late. :( It may be something you once had but which you traded/gave away, and which you are hankering for again but now it's out of stock everywhere.

This is a thread of sorrows, so it's alright if you wish to pour your heart out. :'(

As for me, just last year I had the chance to buy the Sinister Tarot by Christos Beest. I've always lusted after it, but the price was quite prohibitive so I mulled it over. The next day when I finally decided to get the deck anyways, someone got to it before me. I shouldn't have hesitated, and until now I rue it. :(

Although I've been into tarot for decades, I didn't really get into collecting until I discovered AT.  My purchasing was limited to what I could find in physical shops and for many years I had just 2 decks - the Thoth and Ancestral Path.

I'm gutted I didn't discover AT a few years earlier so I wouldn't have missed out on the Bohemian Gothic silver and Victorian Romantic gold. Those are my two big regrets.

For me it is the Alice Tarot by MRP ~cries~ I have a trade thread up in the subscribers section in hopes that maybe I can get my hands on it, but I am not very optimistic.  I will just keep my fingers crossed that one day they will do another edition of it.

Baroque Bohemian Cats!  I think it was still in print when I started my tarot journey, but then when I actually decided I wanted it, it wasn't.

(I keep 'harassing' them on Facebook for a reprint. They told me the artist wants to redo all the art first. Eek!)

So that is 4 MRP decks in 3 consecutive posts!

Most of the indie decks I've missed out on have plans for a reprint (Next World, Dust II Onyx) but whether or not the Slow Holler will come back is still a mystery :'( It came out before I was sure enough of what tarot decks I like (also it is a collaboration between different artists, something I've been skeptical about and to some degree I still am) so I didn't dare to fork out for it but it's actually really cool! I hope it comes back.

One thing I really hate that I missed out on was Robert M Place's Vampire Tarot. It was still in print the first year or so I was getting into tarot but I couldn't decide on it so I always put it off and suddenly it was gone.

The Lebanese Tarot

Tarot of Saqqara

Maat Tarot

Maria Miduki's Angel Tarot

The Tarot of Delphi

Standard Alice Tarot

Would really love to find the Tarot of Saqqara. I'm sure there are others that I don't even know about, but aren't available anymore.

The Collective Tarot. It ends up going for 500+ dollars on eBay... The creators said they would do another reprint, but it’s been a few years since they said anything.

I always seem to miss out on Robert Place's latest deck before it zooms up over $60

I love vampire lit. I have lots of books about them so I know quite a bit about the topic. Believe me when I say that the companion book for this was truly exceptional. If Ian Daniels didn't write Phantasmagoria for the Tarot of Vampyres, this would have been the top companion tome for a vamp deck.

You've just reminded me that I've always liked the look of Place's Tarot of the Saints.

This is also one I missed out on that i'm so bummed about :'( It's been a few years since the last news about this deck but I still hope it will come back.

I second the Lebanese Tarot.  So evocative.  Although I am turned off by decks that feature the Hanged Man as hanging from the neck, I wouldn't say no to the Lebanese!

I would love Costante Costantini's version of the Minchiate, printed in 1980-81.  Hard to find images to show you, but Nobody Here features it in one of her videos:

I actually only recently discovered that it existed, there are some decks for sale but they are....ummm, too out of my budget range  ???

I missed on a few Baba decks were they were still in print, and I have hit myself afterwards.

The Fantastic Menagerie tarot, and the FairyTales tarot, I saw on their boutique for ages ! and always postponed getting a copy.

Then one day, I was re-reading the classic fairy tales and discussing all the deeper implications with a friend. Enthusiastic, I went online to Baba to get the Fairytales tarot. Sold out ! I was disapointed, but at first I thought that if would come back in print. Years later, I understood my mistake. Those two decks I have since gotten on the second market, but from then on, I swore that I would not let a Baba deck pass me again.

Fast forward a few years : the Mythical Creatures tarot in the large monochrome LE. For some reason, the images did not really do anything for me, on the screen, so I thought I would pass this one. Of course later, I saw the deck in person and bitterly regreted not having bought it when it was available. I was lucky though : not long after that, I found a very nice person who sold me one of her copies for the exact same price as the original price, and it was still new and sealed. I was lucky !

Now, the decks I wish I had are the Collective tarot and the Greenwood tarot. But I have no real regret because they both were already OOP when I discovered about them, so.... I have followed word of the Collective tarot being possibly reprinted many times , but I think these rumors were just teases !

Also I would have liked to have a copy of the Hoi Polloi, but I am not ready to put the kind of money that is asked for this deck now. Same for the Royal Morrocan tarot.

I would also love this deck, just because I love Jane Austen so much, but it is indeed very pricey.

Flaxen! Hello! Long time...yeah, AT did me in too, created a monster. I wish I had gotten the Ancient Egyptian, among others. Someone gifted me the Vic Romantic kit, 1st edition (not gold), but I just never really connected, & I forget who it was! And Granny Jones, but I have it, in a roundabout way...

I have it and really, really like it. The cards are a little small for me, since I really like over-sized cards, but Julia's art is lovely.

I saw on Book Depository that you can still buy the book that went with the deck Tarot of Jane Austen Book

I was half thinking of getting it because I'm really curious to see how the characters and stories of hers would have been incorporated into a tarot deck.
